Not for almost 2 years now. I took a full time professional photography course and work full time (and more!) in the photography industry now.

They do have the 24-120mm. It's pretty sharp, but without the constant aperture.

Image quality is great, but the D3 will beat it in low light applications. The ergonomics are shit though...I personally hate canon's ergonomics.

Lets remember, The D3 has half the amount of resolution as the 5DMII, and costs almost twice as much

D700 then. I'll take one out for a spin next week or so and compare it alongside the D700.

fuk i hate nikon's ergonomics, i cant believe u feel the opposite. and even the menu arrangements are alot more user friendly in the canons. i do love nikon flashes though...

Ok.....first impressions. I have the 5D mkII with the 24-70mm f2.8 L.

The Bad:
The 5D mkII and the lens feels so cheap compared to the D300 and the Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 N - it does not feel as solid or well made as the D300 & 24-70 f2.8. Surprising. Ergonomics suck, but that's just my opinion. Buttons and menu system is confusing and counter-intuitive to what I'm used to and pisses me off. I would get used to it with time, but Nikon and Sony have more efficient means of changing camera functions without digging into the menus. Flash system still sucks ass. Minolta's original wireless flash system introduced in the early 1990's is still better, not to mention Nikon and Sony's current wireless flash systems.
The RAW files cannot be edited with CS3, and Adobe is not releasing an update that will allow you to open 5D mkII RAW files in CS3. You must use Lightroom 2 or CS4, which sucks, as you need to at least buy the upgrade. Of course, you can use the software included with the camera which I did, but the user interface is basic compared to Photoshop. 28.5MB per RAW file! 36MB total for a RAW and large Jpeg! Make sure you buy UDMA cards!

The Good
The image quality is amazing, especially the video. Still images are clean, and high ISO image quality approaches that of the Nikon D300, and possibly the D700 but the noise looks digital rather than the more film grain look of the Nikons. Viewfinder blackout is noticeably longer than the Nikons. 28.5MB per RAW file! 36MB total for a RAW and large Jpeg! Make sure you buy UDMA cards!

1080p with the depth of field characteristics of 35mm SLR lenses is great, but the focusing is slow. It seems you need to press the AF-ON button to focus when you want to focus during video recording. It's not continuous. I have no use for a video function though...I'd almost never use it.

I think current canon users will be happy with this, but I'm worried about its durability under working conditions, as it just doesn't seem as tough as the Nikons.

I'll go do some post of some of the shots I took now. I'll post them up soon.

There ya go. Here are some shots taken around the house. Jpegs converted from the RAW files.

ISO 6400

100% crop of above:

ISO 6400

100% of above

ISO 12,800

100% crop of above

Looks like the Nikons D700 & D3 are 1 stop better in the high ISO department, but the 5D has almost twice the pixel count.

Thanks for the review!

I still think, that since I have no desire go through selling everything and then rebuying it all to switch to Nikon, it'll be a good camera for the money. Probably going to upgrade a couple of lenses first though.

It's one of the ones that's going to the rental department. We're testing it to get used to using it. They will be available for rent soon, but yes, all of the next 45 bodies are spoken for. We just got 11 in yesterday, and all 11 flew out the door. Everyone's so impatient! Haha..

So many people are dumping their 1Ds mkIII and 5D's for the 5D mkII. There's one pro who has a 2 year old unused 5D and is selling it for $1250. He bought it as a back-up, but never really had to use it.
