What's wrong with AirCare? All I remember was the sheer number of crazy-polluting cars on the road back in what, the late 80s? They're all gone now, good riddance. Yeah it sucks you have to pay the fee annually, but that's the price you pay for cleaner air. SOMEone needs to set the standards. imo, most people only gripe about it because their car failed. Myself included, back in tha day. Now I have a newer car with better emissions control, so problem solved. Yes there are ALWAYS ways to cheat AirCare, but think about how many cars got taken off the road even WITH the cheats. Now imagine the kind of crap those cars would be spewing into our air had AirCare not been around. And probably 80% of the general population don't even know how to change their oil regularly, you think they're going to know how to trick their emissions systems? With that said, I hope they apply it to trains in the near future. I swear, one locomotive engine = 100+ cars' worth of emissions. And I hope they ban leaded gasoline (yeah, it's off topic). Mmm.. lead poisoning.. Of course, it would be easier if all of North America simply adopted California's standards. ;) |
They should make it a one year fee. If you fail, each test should be free so that you don't have to eat shit for 2 months just to get your only affordable car to work so you can feed your family. It's the continued fee that seems to be raping a lot of people. Yeah, their guidelines should be followed but c mon, charging people everytime they fail is just rape. If you fail aircare, no insurance. That's fair. Just don't make it thaat much harder for people to pay to get it retested. Especially those who don't mod their cars, but just have an older vehicle that they can't afford a better one. |

Looks like AirCare will live. AirCare program breathes new life By Frank Luba Clamouring for the end of the emissions-testing program motorists love to hate began soon after cars first started getting tested in 1992. But after a review this year of the program, Metro Vancouver’s environment and energy committee recommended Tuesday that AirCare be extended through to 2020. The current AirCare contract expires December 31, 2011. The program is administered by TransLink, but recommendations about its future rest with the Metro Vancouver Regional District and the Fraser Valley Regional District because they are responsible for air quality. Roger Quan, air quality manager for Metro Vancouver, said the final decision on AirCare goes beyond the regional districts. “Ultimately, it’s the decision of the provincial government,” said Quan. The Metro committee also asked that heavy-duty vehicles such as trucks be included in the new AirCare program. The quality of vehicles’ emissions has improved drastically since the program began. But a consultant’s report to the Metro committee indicated “the emission performance of newer vehicles is deteriorating more rapidly than previously thought, resulting in greater incidence of emission control system failure.” Quan said that in 2007 to 2008, about 115,000 — or 13 per cent of all cars tested — failed to meet required standards. The full Metro Vancouver board will vote on whether to support AirCare at its Nov. 26 meeting. fluba@theprovince.com twitter.com/frankluba twitter.com/frankluba © Copyright (c) The Province Read more: http://www.theprovince.com/health/Ai...#ixzz14wPT34rf |
Just be thankful of all the hipster old school rides that would be SPEWING smog if not for aircare. |
fuck it. i drive an 06 Nissan Altima now. |
I don't like aircare but there are way too many fucking cars in the world. At least get rid of the worst polluters. Too many people take the car when they could have just taken transit. I know guys that drive to Metrotown when the skytrain is just 10 min walk away. |
Weird, when we took our minivan last year to AirCare (02 Grand Caravan Sport), all they did was plug in a cable into the OBDII port thing and it passed... someone kindly explain to me?! :D |
One benefit of you guys having AirCare is that it means we can come down there and buy your failed cars at a reduced price. |
