instead of paying for sumones reservation, use that money for their non-dine out menu

Lux share's a building with the caprice nightclub. Looks friggen sweet in there.

It was funny.
The waiter had this really cheesy French accent; when he & another waiter came out with the main course and both went "Un, Deux, Trois!" me and my friend almost fell off our seats laughing cause we totally didn't expect that.

mako 01-06-2009 05:34 PM

any standouts on the $28 menu?

not sure. when i went on a saturday night the yaletown one was pretty busy but not crazy. since they have a pretty good deal going on for DO i can't really say for sure. I'd imagine it'd be pretty busy though since it is one of the only ones thats first come first served.

Heads up booking for Valentines, wanted to reserve two seats at Joe Fortes for Feburary 14th but it was all taken as well as the days before and after it.

nu is not bad, i like it when i was there last year.
West is well worth the trip if you ever get seating.
Pinky's... is an intersting one. there are a lot of good steak houses so unless someone is paying, i wouldn't go to Pinky's. it's not worth that much for a steak.

cincin is an italian restaurant and i'm not a big fan of just pasta and stuff.
quattro is really nice. if u go there and get their platter, it's a great appetizer.
baccus was really really amazing when i went. i would go to them again, not as famous as other restaurant so that's why.
C: i can totally see how the portions would be very very little.

I gotta admit, the taking pictures thing, really bugs me too. I'm also guilty of doing it but I try to do it at casual places. I really think it looks cheesy when you're at a fine dining place and you're sitting there, snapping pictures of everything you're eating.

Have you been there before, if so, how was it? I was thinking of going there this year.

skyxx 01-07-2009 12:36 PM

Anyone Try Azia before? It seems like a nice South East Asian fusion restaurant.

flameboy54 01-07-2009 01:01 PM

^Went there for a b-day party last year. They did like a 12 course sampler kinda deal which turned out better, portion-wise, then I thought. The food was pretty good. Haven't looked at the DO menu but I'm sure I'd give it a try.

Unless they want close to $300 for their reservations, I'd still come out ahead.

Last time I went there, the bill was near $400. Two appys, two entrees, dessert, and a bottle of wine.

West is the most expensive restaurant in the city, if you want to roll at the best you have to pay the bill you cheap shit :haha:

Dine Out Vancouver 2008 Best Bite Winners:
Best Appetizer: Maurya Indian Cuisine and Savoury Coast Cucina Mediterranea
Best Entrée: Maurya Indian Cuisine
Best Dessert: Savoury Coast Cucina Mediterranea
Best BC Wine Pairing: The Cannery Seafood Restaurant
Best Overall Dine Out Vancouver Menu: Savoury Coast Cucina Mediterranea
Best Service: Lumiere Tasting Bar

I went to 6 places last year.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the above restaurants, especially when 2 of them won 2 prizes apiece?
I guess it's all in the name or 'prestige' if that's what it's called.

Obsideon 01-07-2009 03:32 PM

As for this year though I'm probably gonna try to go to Pinky's, but the 1st come 1st serve this is kind of a turn-off, especially with this crap weather, can't even stroll around Yaletown while waiting ...

hmm .. where else to go ...

From what I gather Pinky's isn't that great

Hey Deon ... you didnt include Ebisu in there anywhere! :D

Obsideon 01-07-2009 04:27 PM

Haha I'm not in Dine-Out, there's like an expensive membership fee to join. Our dishes are already cheap, it's not gonna be a super deal to put 3 courses for 28 bucks.

Anyways, being in this business I love trying different places!

So far I've got: Gastropod (in before the Official Start of Dine-Out), Pinky's (I'll see how long the wait is, if it's bad I'll eat somewhere else in Yaletown), Lux & Parkside. Nothing else seems appealing this year. I would of liked to go to Lumiere's or Chambar but they aren't in it. I guess it isn't worth it for them either.

I went to Yaletown Pinky's the first month it opened last year, I thought it was pretty good. Steak was cooked perfect, caesar salad wasn't anything special, but the steak was great. The only thing that really dampened the experience was this odour in the place that smelled kind of like piss.

Holy shit :haha:

Lumiere is close for renovations, has been for about a year champ, this shouldn't be a huge surprise.

So, can anyone comment on the wait for Pinky's?

I'm looking to go there too.

Pinky's hasn't been around for a year yet so no one has experience with their dine-out waits...

Ducky 01-07-2009 11:35 PM

Okay I can’t understand why Pinky’s keeps showing up on this tread have any of you been to their website? Or am I missing something?

I had a quick dinner there for new years and the meal was fine not wow by any means. If you compare their dineout menu to their normal menu its actually regular prices, If you pick certain combinations dine out is the same if not more expensive. Go on a normal day.

http://www.brownsrestaurantgroup.com...inner_menu.pdf
On the Normal Menu $28
- Sirloin Steak 7oz or Marinated Teriyaki Sirloin Steak 7oz, with a ceasar salad, your choice of tomato linguini or fettuccini alfredo. Finished with a scoop of chocolate ice cream in a silver dish.

2) West is not the most expensive restaurant in the city or the best; yes there has been a number of write ups saying that it is the best but unfortunately not everyone has the same taste.
I have been to West a handful of times, never for dine out but I did try their prix fix meal.
The food was good the service was impeccable but so were other meals I have had at other restaurants.
There are many restaurants that you can rack up the bill over 4 bills without going crazy on the alki So Trinity if you want a reservation at West, I can probably get a friend to sell you their for not 300 but how about 250? A special deal for you since you’re a RS regular lol.

Deon good choice with parkside and lux, if you want to hit up chambar sometime let me know. Good place and the owners are really nice. PS. I still dont see Ducky's on the drink menu, only on the computer!!! lol
