Lost Keys + Someone Attempted to BREAK IN!

Ok posting for a friend.
He lost his keys at school (Langara) and was waiting for someone to bring a spare key. While waiting he saw the car unlock, he kept watching from far away and someone went up to the car and he chased after him.
WELL wat should he do, since this is at school and the fucking theif could easily break in the car now.

sexyaccord 02-17-2009 05:10 PM

wait till the theif gets close to the car, tries to open the door, then tackle him

Eatman 02-17-2009 05:11 PM

bring the car back to the dealership and have them reprogram the alarm and give you a new set of locks

n'drew 02-17-2009 05:11 PM

He asked the dealership and it will cost 2000

-=SKYY=- 02-17-2009 05:18 PM

what car is this?

RFlush 02-17-2009 06:02 PM

Well your friend is kind of stupid. Why didn't he wait until the guy was near his car and then get him instead of scaring him away? If he is going to chase him, at least be confident enough to be able to catch up to him.

$2000 or car.
Tell him to choose.
Even he manages to get the originals back/ get the guy who has the originals, there could be a spare copy made for it already.

GordonTse 02-17-2009 06:05 PM

well first off, your friend should have never chased him. he should of casually walked towards the car, then attack.

jing 02-17-2009 06:07 PM

Get an aftermarket alarm system as well as changing your key lock cylinders.

quasi 02-17-2009 06:07 PM

Get an aftermarket alarm with a starter kill. He could put in some sort of hidden kill switch so it won't start unless it's switched on. My dad put one in my car when I was in highschool probably cost about $10 in parts.

3seriesBeeM 02-17-2009 06:26 PM

put an aftermarket alarm on it or an immobilizer. and than just make sure that you dont leave anything of value in the car

AzNightmare 02-17-2009 06:32 PM

I would either pay the 2000 bucks to have peace of mind that someone doesn't have access to your car whenever he wants.

Or

Wait for him to come back, but kinda hard, considering another golden oppurtunity to find the guy trying to get in your car with you watching from a distance is unlikely, considering you'll have to set up a camp around your car while you're at school.

Either way, sucks that your friend didn't get him the one and only easy chance he had.

i wonder how the thief knew which car it was?

x2 and if somebody did that to my car i'm pretty sure the pissed off adrenaline would have made me run faster than cheetah before i jump on his back and break his spine

quasi 02-17-2009 06:45 PM

I just had another idea. GPS tracker, I don't think there to expensive my dad has one in his truck and trailer. That way when he steals it you can track him down.

thumper 02-17-2009 06:48 PM

does your friend have any roadstar coverage?

http://www.icbc.com/insurance/insura...g_lockrePU.asp

Quote:

If you have the RoadStar Package, we will pay you up to $500 for the cost of replacing your keys or for re-keying the locks on your vehicle, if your keys or remote keyless entry transmitter are stolen.

You must carry insurance to cover theft, either Autoplan Comprehensive or Specified Perils. Your claim will be subject to its usual deductible [click for definition]. For the same coverage without having to pay the deductible, you can purchase RoadsidePlus.

i know $500 max is not $2000, but it helps a bit?

Keep hitting the unlock button on the remote and see which car has their lights flashing. Or if not as stealth, can hit the lock button to hear the beep or panic for the repeated beeps.

jimzilla 02-17-2009 06:58 PM

bring your dog to school and leave him in the car

+1 if your car is not some new European car. That's the cheapest way to get around it...

JHuJHu 02-17-2009 07:06 PM

Hope your friend itsn't on the track team.

SumAznGuy 02-17-2009 07:08 PM

CAll the police and ask them to set up his car as a bait car.

is that actually practical/feasible?

tiger_handheld 02-17-2009 07:39 PM

load up a bb with with google latitude and hide it in the car ... everytime u are at school . .. . n track the car ... or say that ur car was stolen n call the cops with the exact location ...

metal 02-17-2009 07:40 PM

Just put in a hidden switch to your fuel pump.
