nobody reads stickies

underscore 03-23-2009 06:00 PM

then fix it do only the OP can post in the BnS forum. wouldn't that be the easiest way to correct the problem? as most people, knowingly or not, will share johny's mindset, if theres a reply button/box I'll use it.

Those people are the same type of people who complain about breaking laws they don't know about.

Just because you can do it doesn't mean you should.

Same concept.

Gotta bump this up again because foos don't read the rules.

DragonChi 04-04-2009 09:43 AM

Other than people breaking laws that they dont know about... What other motivating factors led to this rule?

I used to find BnS informative... albeit there were a number of posts being shitted on.

Rule was there since the emergence of the B&S but wasn't strictly reinforced. Now because of excess traffic, it needs to be reinforced.

mk1freak 04-05-2009 08:55 AM

everyone should just follow the rules. end of story
like a lover of mine who just told me yesterday after meeting me for a quicky at Lansdowne parking lot (no names ok CRS) *winkwink*

"Just because i pay you for sex.....ooops wrong quote people
this is the correct one:
Just because you don't get caught speeding doesn't mean it's ok and that you can do it all the time. Eventually you will get caught.

same concept.

does posting in this thread count?

ecsw 04-06-2009 03:48 PM

I got major points because the OP post the title wrong as 2.3" SATA?

I really don't think it's fair. I read the rule, I never bump anyone's thread after the rule came out. But I simply trying to help the OP to correct the posting title.

Guess I will stop helping anyone here if they post anything wrong.

BTW, I am sure the forum tool had settings to be change to dis-allow anything other than OP if you want to reinforce the rule. After being a memeber for such a long time here and got points for this just made me feel sad. :(

tnkw 04-07-2009 10:26 AM

Again, if you want to enforce the rule, ban the reply bottom. If your reasoning behind bumping is due to traffic, why don't you look around for other comparible forums such as S2Ki and Honda-tech or other major automotive forum, where from my perspective, more successful in terms of regulation and sponsering.

Now, someone said "Just because you don't get caught speeding doesn't mean it's ok and that you can do it all the time. Eventually you will get caught." Now, this makes valid sense as speeding can potentially lead to serious consiquences. In our case the mod has the reply function enabled which gives the user the ability to use it, and using it does not lead to the same serious consiquences that speeding would.

From another perspective, it is much more useful to have the reply bottom availible as it expose the information to everyone.

The mods are giving points to whoever that replys to the buysell thread. To save yourself some trouble and to save complains from members, you guys should stop giving points and spent that time disable the function.

tnkw 04-07-2009 10:29 AM

btw, forum works two ways, yes you guys are providing free forums to post buy and sell section, but for you guys to get sponsers its all depends on the users. Maybe its time to find a middle line between how WE think and MODS would applied the rules. People make the rules, but can also change it.

This guy has been on this forum since 2002 and you guys gave him points for being helpful and correcting someone's mistake!?

I guess loyalty doesn't mean anything around here...

ecsw 04-07-2009 03:09 PM

It's all good. CRS and Presto re-evaluate my case and withdraw my points. :) I am glad mods here do listen to members' opinions.

the other way I see it as well, is that this is like the police having the ability to make it physically impossible for people to speed, but choose not to.

Alatar 04-07-2009 10:12 PM

It's not a simple setting to limit only the original poster to be able to reply to threads they create, while allowing noone else. Know that it is being worked upon. Also, if you see an error in a thread, report said thread, and a moderator will take the appropriate editing actions.

If you feel you were wrongly awarded points, you can take it up with the moderators at any time, or with myself. I'm available daily if you have any questions, concerns, or general comments.

Presto 04-09-2009 01:38 PM

Bumping this again, because there's a pool for how many posts after bump will it take for a non-OP to bump a FS thread again.

Presto 04-14-2009 03:49 PM

Another bump. Last time, some doofus bumped a thread right after this one. The set of points gifted to him sent him to the banned club for a week because he didn't heed the previous reminders.

cunninglinguist 04-14-2009 05:59 PM

I gotta say this forum is a lot better now than before. Good work mods.

I think some offending posters should get not only points but their posts edited so they are publicly shamed. Something like "I'm a dummy for not using the PM function".

Presto 04-17-2009 03:35 PM

Sigh...

AzNightmare 04-17-2009 09:08 PM

Why is this thread not stickied, or better yet put in the
** Buy and Sell Electronics Rules **

How are people supposed to see this, because give 5 mins after I submit this post, someone would have put a new sale ad to cover this very important thread.

Also, a thread title like "STOP POSTING! POINTS!" is a bit vague.

I would rename the tread title to something like "NEW BUY & SELL RULE - PLEASE READ"
that would get people's attention more, in my humble opinion.

btw, this is a great rule. I'm not against it in any way. Just saying that people are probably not following the rules because they simply missed this thread.

Presto 04-17-2009 11:36 PM

No matter how obvious we make it, there will be people that will still be blind. Stickies are the worst, as no one notices those. I could have it in neon with a marquee lighting, and there'd still be an unauthorized bump within a few posts.

Presto 04-21-2009 06:24 AM

ttt

10051981 04-22-2009 08:12 PM

i wonder how craigslist does it....yes they don't have a reply function but they also have much more traffic and don't impose any limitations due to it, as well as it's free with no ads. If anyone knows other than they simply have more resources let me know?

What USED to draw me more to revscene was the fact that you COULD reply to ads, learn more, ask questions which in turn everyone could see the answer to and make a decision as to where to go.

I remember a long time ago, I asked a similar question and a mod bluntly told me that If I didn't like revscene I could leave since I'm not paying. True, directly I'm not paying you, however if im buying off your sponsors, well guess what If I leave my money leaves, and your sponsors leave.

Site traffic growing is a good thing, but don't revert to what may not work, it would be interesting if some sort of poll could be set up to see what members think. Even just for the sake of arguement to see how the community feels. Someone in here mentioned that the ability to take off the reply button is being looked at and worked on, one would think till then to not give out points perhaps?

Anyways, my blabbing is done :)

Presto 04-24-2009 10:17 AM

bump.

Presto 04-26-2009 12:00 AM

.

Presto 04-29-2009 09:09 AM

It's gettin' there.
