it doesn't make a single thing harder, if you already use itunes of course.

J____ 06-12-2009 09:46 PM

i dont use itunes on a regular basis. but ur saying it's not easier to drag and drop when you plug in ur phone than fuking around with dragging documents into ur itunes folder then syncing it to ur phone? i dont see why apple cant give you the option to drag and drop along with syncing. Most other smartphones have both options

itunes is awesome if you configure it right. use it to manage, rip, organize (down to the folder and file level), and burn your music collection. do NOT use it as your default media player or else you will curse it.

there IS a drag and drop feature for your ipod/iphone in itunes. just click the manually manage music button.

i use itunes as my default music player, i never have any problems with it.

Ikkaku 06-14-2009 09:43 AM

^ ditto. When I started using itunes as my music player, I never had a second thought about going back to winamp.

skholla 06-14-2009 11:05 AM

the reason why i recommend NOT to use itunes as your default music player is because of the way i have my itunes setup. i use itunes as my music library for ripping and tagging cds and mp3s, any files that i drag into itunes it is set up to make a copy of the file inside my itunes folder and organize it by subfolders with the artist and album names. i like this setup very much as all of my music that is worth keeping and that i actually want in my library is consolidated and organized very well, both by filename, folder structure, and by id3 tags.

with my setup if i was to use itunes as my default music player then everything i get a new song or album that i am just checking out, it would be added to itunes when i play a song. this is not something that i want to happen, on both my PC and Mac i use VLC as a media and music player, if the song or album is good then i drag it into itunes and re-tag it if necessary, at that point it is copied to my itunes library in my itunes folder and i can delete the original copy where ever it was.

the iphone 3g will get a2dp will the 3.0 update, so yes, 3gs should alrady support it out of the box

scheng924 06-15-2009 10:43 PM

battery life improvement is a +
camera improvement is expected...

anti finger oil coating does not mean matte, it's still glossy

if palm pre vs iphone 3gs, 3gs > pre due to the OS on the pre... webOs is still relatively unstable...

the OS itself is optimized so even on 3G is slightly faster.. but definitely not as fast on the 3GS.. multiple running apps is a thing of the past as 3.0 will support PNS (push notification services)... which i argue is way better than processes and threads... ppl who studied OS should agree on that one...

scheng924 06-15-2009 10:43 PM

o yea... Apple Lossless format = WIN!
i can't go back to MP3......... flac's and apple lossless stole my heart..

Death2Theft 06-20-2009 09:22 PM

Anyone use skype with the iphone? Could you simply use a dataplan and route everything thru skype? I see on the skype page it says wifi but with the faster 3gs will it still be wifi only?

Harvey Specter 06-21-2009 12:22 AM

I might use my fido dollars (have around 190 fido dollars) and upgrade my current iphone.

Rogers and Fido are offering their existing iPhone customers a break on pricing for the new iPhone 3G S.

When pricing for the new iPhone was announced at $199 for the 16GB iPhone 3G S and $299 for the 32GB model, that applied only to customers who signed on for a new three-year data and voice plan.

That seemed to leave customers who bought iPhones when they first launched in Canada just under a year ago to pay the no contract price – hundreds of dollars more than the contract-subsidized price if they wanted to get one of the new phones.

However as the iPhone 3G S was about to land on store shelves, Rogers and Fido announced that for a limited time, existing iPhone owners have some options to save paying the full no-contract price for the new model.

Rogers customers who have had their iPhones at least six months can receive $250 off the no-term,device-only price for a new iPhone 3G S, as long as they have a data plan and agree to extend their service agreement by one year.

iPhone 3G customers who got their phones between last year’s July 11 launch and September 30, 2008 and who have spent on average $100 or more a month on wireless services will get $500 off the no-term price for an iPhone 3G S.

For family plan accounts spending on average more than $100 a month in wireless services over that period, one line on the account can be upgraded at the special offer price.

With both offers, customers keep their old 3G phones.

It all adds up, for the iPhone 3G S 16GB/32GB to:

$199/$299: customers who bought their iPhone 3G between July 11 and Sept. 30 2008 and spend on average at least $100 a month on wireless services.

$449/$549: customers who have had an iPhone at least six month and agree to extend service agreement by one year

$699/$799: full no contract price

For Rogers' FAQ on iPhone pricing, check here. Fido's FidoDollars offer on the iPhones is here. Rogers has also extended its Twitter presence, with RogersHelps.

The iPhone 3G S went on sale with Rogers and Fido Friday. I tried one out and wrote about my first take on the new phone.

The new phone offers, along with a data plan of 6GB for $30 a month, available for all iPhone customers, are good only until July 31.

anyone been able to get a 3GS if they are with them but still have a year and a half left on their current contract? not a current iphone 3G user

kcl38 06-21-2009 01:16 PM

Its not very clear about what price family plan people get?

Ok, so I called Fido and the CR said the $500 discount is only for Rogers’s customers; Fido customers who own a 3G, purchased in August/Sept and spend $100+ a month, can purchase the 3Gs for $599, not $199. Only upside is you can use your Fido dollars but seriously $599? No thanks.

kayceeee 06-21-2009 04:48 PM

the only discount u get for fido is if u have an iphone 3g u get 100 bucks off

hotjoint 06-21-2009 09:34 PM

:lol fido FTL

Harvey Specter 06-21-2009 10:44 PM

My dad got the new 3Gs today but I haven't had a chance to play around. He's with Rogers so he got it for $199.

Jasdip 06-23-2009 08:39 PM

i just bought one, its being shipped.. any tips and tricks?

skholla 06-23-2009 08:59 PM

i got the 16gb 3G S on friday and its great, i wanted the 32gb but didnt want to spend the extra $100 now considering that there will be another new iphone late next year and i have some fido contracts that will be up for renewal then.

the 3G S is a lot faster than than the 2g and a fair amount faster than the 3g. the voice control is pretty cool, especially when driving, but then again you would look like a douche bag using it walking down the street. the new compass feature makes the google maps soooo much better, the video is cool if you will use it, the new auto focus and tap to focus camera is awesome, way better than the older ones.

overall the 3.0 firmware update makes all phones a bit more responsive and better performing, from the 2g to the 3g. check out this write up on how the use the 40, yes thats right 40, new features of the 3.0 software. this does NOT include the new features only available on the 3G S.

nope not really so might as well get one since they have the 6gb for 30 and plus if u dont want it after u get it just cancel it and pay the 100 decf, still end up paying less than 399 ;) it'll be 299 :P
