I personally use "Assisstant" as well, as it always made more sense that they are there to help the Captain like an assisstant, not be (equal) as the other alternative captain.
But I just thought an article written in an official NHL team site would use the official terms.

For some reason.. I want the Leafs to lose. But they're totally deserving of the win in this game.
