That'll fuck up our cap. Nonetheless, the preference in putting cap priority on offense is just another personal preference by mine. I just love offensive teams that much over defensive ones.
Why would that fuck up our cap? Ohlund made 3.5 Million last year. If we can sign Boumeester to a contract of say 6.5 mill per year that would only raise our cap by 3 Mill since Ohlund is going to be gone.

Signing Boumeester isn't going to hurt our offense but improve it even more. Great offensive teams need good puck moving d-men.

^^
Well it "could" fuck us up the year after next since the cap will drop. However, if we do happen to get Boumeester obviously some of our D will go at some point because we just won't have money. Edler is 3 +, Bieksa is 3+, Salo is 3+, Mitchell is 3+, Bou 5+? Although I don't remember when Mitchells contract is up I think next year is his last? Anyways it I've always been iffy on Bou but really it's only because he has never played in the playoffs. I'm just excited of all the possibilities for next year. Come on Gillis make some magic happen!

Damm looks like Brent Sutter is going to be the flames next coach (not a suprise tho from
all the rumours that are floating around)

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=282428

Sources tell TSN that Brent Sutter is in the final stages on the details of an agreement to become the next head coach of the Calgary Flames.

He is expected to be named in the near future.

Should Sutter be named the new bench boss in Calgary, it would be due to New Jersey Devils GM Lou Lamoriello giving the club permission to speak with him, as Sutter owes the Devils a year on his contract.

Sutter stepped down as head coach of the Devils on June 9th, citing personal and family reasons, but at the time there was speculation that he would eventually move into the vacant Flames head coaching position.

Brought to New Jersey on July 13, 2007, Sutter spent two seasons behind the Devils' bench compiling a record of 97-56-11. He led the team to the post-season both years, but failed to move on past the first round, most recently falling to the Carolina Hurricanes in seven games.

Prior to his time in New Jersey, Sutter served eight seasons as the owner, president, general manager, and coach of the Red Deer Rebels in the Western Hockey League.

Oh snapz, you've jinxed the 2009/2010 seasons. Looks like we're not winning the cup this season.

How much would Gaborik be asking for?
And how much would Sundin be asking for?

He's not going to be playing in the Olympics it looks like.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=282490

STOCKHOLM -- Veteran centre Mats Sundin will reportedly not play for defending champion Sweden in the Olympic hockey tournament next year.

"There will be no Olympics in Vancouver for me next year," Sundin was quoted as saying Sunday on the Swedish newspaper Expressen's website. "I will not change my mind," Sundin told the newspaper. "I think it's time that the next generation takes over. We have many good players."

The 38-year-old Sundin, who played for the Vancouver Canucks last season after spending most of his NHL career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, was one of Sweden's key players in the 2006 Turin Olympics. Sweden beat Finland in the final for its second gold since 1994.

"It was the perfect ending of a long career for Sweden, to lead the Swedish team against the best in the world and win Olympic gold for the first time when all teams had their stars playing. I could not have dreamed of a better scenario for my last game."

Sundin said he is still pondering about his future in the NHL and did not rule out playing another season with Vancouver.

"Absolutely," he was quoted as saying when asked if he might play again with the Canucks. "I will think about my future the next couple of weeks. I will make a decision in the summer. I can't say more right now."

I think so as well. Heatley has had better numbers but Gaborik seems like he can get shit done himself. Heatley has always played with Spezza/Alfredsson so it's hard to judge how he would like as the one go to guy.

Apparently the hip surgeries Gaborik had this season would fix his chronic groin injuries. If this is true, he can turn out to be a nice signing (If the Sedins don't return).

Heatley also plays in the East...Gaborik put up great numbers in the West..damn new thread for the next season...usually it sucks waiting between when your team gets knocked out and waiting for preseason...but it hasn't struck me yet....lots of things happening here and there to keep me interested in the off season..draft is coming up, than free agency....should be a fun summer..
and Mats will decide later in the summer if he will return to the Canucks...

I would only sign Sundin (if he wants to return) if he's willing to take a huge pay cut, under $3 mill a season.
