Total my car, anybody have experice dealing with ICBC in this situation?

Long story short I hit a power line pole and my car is totaled.
No other car/people were involved.
How will ICBC handle this since it was my fault?
I have basic coverage, collision and comprehensive.
Are they going to write it off or am I not going to get anything?
Already filed a claim and waiting for a reply, just want to know what to expect.

Depends whether they think your car is worth fixing, are you just calling it totalled or is the car the size of a mini now?

TOPEC 06-25-2009 10:05 PM

u wouldnt by any chance be this guy that wrapped the car arnd the pole?
http://www.revscene.net/forums/accid...t-t580449.html
and depending on how bad the damage is and what the current market value the car is worth, it might or might not be totaled.

This will be considered a Single Vehicle Accident and will be processed under your collision coverage, which in turn will effect your discount.

To see what effect it will have, go here: http://www.icbc.com/autoplan-insuran...riables._frag_

In regards to your vehicle, what will happen is it will get towed into an ICBC facility and then estimated. Depending on the extent of the damage, your vehicle may be fixed or it may be written off.

Either way, you will be subject to your collision deductible. If your vehicle is written off, it will be deducted from your settlement amount. If your vehicle is fixable, you will have to pay it to the bodyshop.

That's a little harsh, don't you think?

+1

I think that's very harsh. Who is he to judge on the OP just based on this accident.

geeknerd 06-26-2009 01:27 AM

does having DPP also effect discounts? any1 know?

TRDood 06-26-2009 01:32 AM

hope you have the new car replacement insurance.

shantz 06-26-2009 07:55 AM

you're still covered under you're insurance policy
if its a Single Vehilcle Accident (SVA) - you're rates will go up based on the ICBC claim scale. http://www.icbc.com/autoplan-insuran...riables._frag_

ilvtofu 06-26-2009 07:58 AM

PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!!! lmfao...

OK I'm being picky, yet this is post #2 today where you use you're instead of your.

Not on the left coast. Public insurance will mean his rates will only go up so much. Private insurance would raise his rates through the roof.

Its only totalled cause it'll cost more to fix than the car is worth.

I had similar damage on my car, as long as the frame isn't bent it can be fixed.

yeah, when dealing with ICBC, bend over. spread your legs apart, makes it easier on both of you

ilvtofu 06-26-2009 10:45 AM

Are those BBS LMs? shit those gotta be expensive :(
At least the glass isn't broken, looks like rearward of engine is fine, but everything thats $$ is in front ...

!Tigger 06-26-2009 10:47 AM

I highly doubt they are going to fix it. The car is worth $7-8k tops

hamsup 06-26-2009 11:14 AM

well icbc may use used parts to fix your car... it actually doesn't look as bad as i thought it would be b/c your airbags are not deployed ...
