Normally cut every 2 weeks. It has been like 7 or 8 I lost track. I bought clippers at the beginning of this just in case but haven't had the balls to do it yet. There have been like 5 times where I almost did only to say nah fuck it lol.

Just watch tutorials on YouTube. They make it look so easy. Just start with a 3 guard and slowly work your way down to the 1 guard on the sides.

Lol yes you're probably right, I could even not do a "fade" and just straight up do #1 on the side I suppose too. I do a high and tight fade anyway so it's practically a 0-1 fade normally. I think it's just the back I'm worried about but truthfully even if I fuck up I know I don't need to worry because after a couple weeks of growing it'll all be back to square one anyway.

I'm definitely going to pull a #1. No fade and terrible top.
As a person who's done 3 cuts (2kids+myself), I think I'm a good authority for the #1 Youtube cut.
You'd end up like this if you don't pull out and go all the way to the end where you draw your line. And the reason for that is because not everyone have their top hair supershort (specially not at this time) to pull it off with the way youtuber does it.
The tip I'd give is to use your middle finger as guide, with the biggest spacer, do up to where you have the last phalange and start pulling out (kinda like drawing a circle out). Once you've done it around the head, get the second longest spacer, and this time, start pulling out when you are past the first finger phalange. Do it around the head. Last, bring out an even shorter spacer or no spacer at all if you want to go really short, and start pulling out from the beginning.
This way, you create the 3 different layers in equal length with the Youtube cut.
Last but not least, once you are done with what I just mentioned, separate your top section into 4 parts horizontally (across your head from left-right). Then work one section at a time. I just comb all the hair forward, turn the clipper with the longest spacer upside down, and kinda start brushing my hair through.
I started doing my hair first and it turned out like crap. But that's the tips I learned doing my own hair and I was able to do an ok job on my kids.
I couldn't stand any longer and got a Phillips clipper (model 7000 or sth) from Costco with a whole bunch of attachments.
Worked really well following the simple how to cut your own hair tutorial on Youtube.
Also cut my kids hair. So I already made back the investment on the clipper, which was 49.99+tax, same amount what it cost to cut mine and kids hair during a trip to the hair salon.
Only drawback is that we all have the same hairstyle.
Lots of stock at Brighton Costco. Only a 20 min lineup to get in at at the peak this afternoon.
Would've preferred the Wahl kit for $39.99 that I've also heard about but not available at this location.
I haven't tried cutting my own hair since the early 2000s. Might just F trying to do a good job and go straight for the Joe Exotic look.
Sonick is a genius. I won't go into detail what's so great about his post. But it's damn good!

Hair cutters...your job is safe. Will risk the virus when they start opening up.
My wife did a terrible job and I have no confidence it'll improve. I'm not going to be a slimeball and return these one time used clippers back to costco.
If anyone wanna throw a lowball offer for my $70 wireless clippers I'll consider it.
From experience, if you're trying to cut your own hair, part of the challenge is having the dexterity to look at the mirrors reflection in another mirror, and moving your arms/hands/wrists accordingly.
Something I thought which helped was having the clipper turned off and just going through the casual motions to get the muscle memory down.
I had a hell of a time figuring out how best to hold the mirror in 1 hand while trying to cut with the other, until I found this video and saw how he held the mirror.
