There's not much night life in Portland IMO.

Portland's best for tax free shopping and the food carts. There's some interesting areas too if you haven't been before.

For eats:
1. PokPok - MUST VISIT THIS! Awesome Thai snack food drinking place for lunch or dinner. Must get the Fish Sauce Wings, Pok Pok Salad and anything else. You'll thank me for this!!! Get there early for dinner.
2. Nong's Khao Man Gai. Thai chicken rice (similar to Haianese chicken rice) get the Piset size (Large). Their chicken is soooo moist, rice so flavourful, liver that comes with it is awesome. So is the soup and dipping sauce. I ate here 3 times in my last 3 day trip.
3. Podnah's pit (BBQ). This place is pretty awesome too the ribs are smoked for like 8+ hrs. Can't find any better ribs in Vancouver than this place.
4. Voodoo donut for the novelty but IMO it's overrated.
5. Kenny & Zuke's Delicatessen. They smoke and make all their own pastrami and corned beef. Good sandwhiches and the best Motza ball soup EVER!!!
7. Any of the top 5 places on Urbanspoon or Yelp is a sure bet.

Tip: Most food carts only open on weekdays from 11am - 3pm or whenever they sell out. So plan your food cart eating accordingly.

For interesting areas:
1. Go visit nob hill - it's kind like a commercial drive meets robson neighbourhood
2. Take the tram from the Oregon hospital from waterfront up to the hospital - this offers a great view the Williamette river and Mt Hood.
3. If you are visiting in the weekend Sat/Sun. Go visit the farmer's market in the Downtown Waterfront. It's free and there's all these market vendors and food stalls there

Shopping:
Anywhere really. Pioneer Square, Lloyd Center. Outlets (if you wanna drive far)

Shameless plug but you guys are missing out not trying the 6 places I mentioned.

Cheesecake factory and In-n-out is good but it way too mainstream. Plus you can always do Cheescake in Seattle. And one of the poster is right there's no In-n-out in Portland if I remember.

There is only a couple in woodburn. I stayed at 3 of the 4 and just to say if you want nice stay at the best western forgot where I booked but i got a room for $79 for a night. avoid super 8 at all cost. La quinta is pretty nice as well but the beds were not comfortable.

You can do what our group did a few weeks ago and stay near Tigard/Lake Oswego, which is halfway between downtown Portland and Woodburn. It's about 20 minutes each way.

We got the Crowne Plaza 3.5 star for $59 per night.

Looking to make a trip down to Seattle next month for 2-3 days.

What are some good places for sightseeing and walking around? Of course, Pike Place is a staple.

I read about taking the ferry to Bainbridge Island. Apparently there's a lot to see and do there. Columbia Center Sky View Observatory for their 360 view of the city, and the Woodland Park Zoo also seem like good places.

I've actually stayed at that Best Western a handful of times, my family used to go down for family vacations etc. It's not a bad place! Across the highway from the Woodburn outlets so it is really close by. There is also a Safeway and fast food around the Hotel as well. You can get easy access to the highway to get into the City for Food etc.

I personally like going around Ballard. There are some fun shops, and plenty of good restaurants and bars.

Is it worth it to go to PokPok in Portland for dinner if it's just me and the gf? The food seems more for sharing with a larger party. Or maybe I should just in for a snack?

Last time me and my wife went, they were packed. So if you want to try it out I suggest go earlier or take it out to go. Everything is worth a try in my opinion.

just went down to portland this weekend with a group of friends.
highlights include:
- ground kontrol - old school arcade + bar, drink while you play x-men, turtles in time, street fighter 2, pinball etc. paid 2 dollar cover at night and drinks were cheap
- pok pok
- brewcycle tour - was a fun experience, apparently the majority of their clientele are from vancouver. basically ride a communal bike for a pub crawl (NOT allowed to drink on the cycle which was a bummer). great way to meet new people to hang out and drink with after the tour
- deschutes brewery
- rogue brewery

Went to Portland last week

-stayed the Rose Hotel on Morrison which was centralized for everything (there was even a fair next door to us!)
-went to the departure for drinks/lounge (swanky place on the 9th floor of a hotel with good views and some bites and drinks; good for pre-drink social)

Clubs are around Chinatown and such but didn't get to check it out since it was one stop on the roadtrip

When I went to Seattle I stayed at the Red Lions in downtown on I think 5th and Pike. It's between the 2 entertainment districts; plus we woke up to a parade outside the hotel entrance!

Bellingham- Bellis Fair, Trader Joes, and Copper Pig for some brunch.

Bellevue - Bellevue Square, lots of restaurants in that area but haven't tried many that were better than Cheesecake factory. Din Tai Fung is a farce compared to their Asian locations. John Howie Steakhouse is next on my list next time I visit.

if you dont mind driving to redmond, haiku is a great buffet place. sushi and seafood. best thing is they have dim sum there too. sashimi is pretty good too.
