Same here. Lots of emergency vehicles out too. Non stop thunder and lightning.

Coquitlam area. Lights flickering a lot too. Posting from my iPhone in the safety of my bathroom. Seems to be mostly over now. 8:41 pm

Harvey Specter 07-25-2009 07:53 PM

From tomorrow into next weekend it's over to be sunny with temp's reaching almost 35c so I guess the rain we're getting right now is good in a way.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Organizers of Celebration of Light say the event will go on, despite the weather. Vancouver's Virgin Festival has been cancelled for the evening. The Whitecaps game has been halted. Over 5,000 BC Hydro customers are without power.

Showers rolled in along English Bay just after the dinner hour, soaking the crowd, but most are taking it in stride. One dad who drove his kids in from Cloverdale to watch the show and has built shelter with driftwood on the beach, and a tarp from his trunk, "We don't know what it's going to be like a little bit later, but I'm looking forward to it, I think everybody is looking forward to it, no matter what [the weather]."

Lifeguards were even clearing the water due to lightning concerns.

It's round two of the Celebration of light as South Africa takes the stage in the sky over English Bay. They will be trying to out-do Canada's Wednesday night performance.

this shit is off the hook, its basically over here in coquitlam... shit loads of lightning on the mountain though, awsome.

Harvey Specter 07-25-2009 08:02 PM

Yup, looks crazy outside right now. LOL @ all the idiots that wasted time camping out to get the best sit for the fireworks tonight.

lilaznviper 07-25-2009 08:03 PM

just came home from the beach... damn it was rain hard down there with lightning and thunder... everyone was leaving when i left

MWR34 07-25-2009 08:03 PM

DOnt forget, after long periods with no rain, oils from cars and trucks will now surface to the top of the road after a rain fall. So be careful out there, even with nice new tires, the centre of the lane can be slippery.

ienhz 07-25-2009 08:04 PM

pretty calm on burnaby mountain now.
is it still going on in vancouver?

Harvey Specter 07-25-2009 08:07 PM

Yup, it's raining off and on in Vancouver (downtown). The rain stops but follows up with a massive downpour and it's so bloody hot and humidity right now.

orange7 07-25-2009 08:14 PM

this is what happens when a cold front goes under and pushes a hot front upward.

I think the lightning strikes will make the fireworks even better! haha. GOod thing i'm at home right now!

ZhangFei 07-25-2009 08:16 PM

is it safe to come out and play now?

We watched the fireworks from Cypress once, and despite it being perfectly clear over Van, there was a major lightning storm over Victoria... was cool to see the two light shows together!

Domani 07-25-2009 08:17 PM

despite the rain, i m enjoying the thunder

and one of the most amazing sunsets we've seen in a long time.

Now THIS is an amazing sunset! Fireworks on the left, a comet McNaught in the middle, and lightning on the right.

Crazy! This is in Australia btw.
