ahahahha, yeah, and that other guy was like 'get those girls outta the way' and i'm thinking 'wtf, you queer?!?! keep focused on them more!'

MG1 08-15-2009 01:02 AM

Saw that too........ the girls were very nice. I think the BC dance team (right term, Soundy?) is a tad better than the Argo's cheerleading squad. Next up is Winnipeg. I'm so glad the home games are no longer blacked out. At least so far they haven't. Is that because Wendy's and other sponsors are paying a lot, or is it because BC Place is packed with fans?

Soundy 08-15-2009 08:26 AM

Actually, the last home game WAS blacked out on regular TSN... but for whatever reason, it's never blacked out on TSNHD.

Bobby Ackles was adamant on the home blackouts being a good thing; I think they had a line around 35,000-40,000 attendance to allow it to be lifted. Now that he's gone (RIP) I don't know if that will be changing at all... AFAIK George Chayka is still just "acting President and CEO", I'm not sure if a permanent replacement (or replacements) for Bobby's positions has been named yet. A changing of the guard there might change the blackout policy. I don't think I've ever heard what David Braley's opinion is on the matter.

I know the idea of the local blackout is to encourage people to actually go to the games rather than sit at home and watch them for free, but it's pissed me off a few times in the last couple years, because I was a season ticket holder (couldn't afford to renew this year :() and couldn't make it to some games for various reasons... and couldn't watch it at home either.

Good thing I splurged on TSNHD. Good for Canuck games and now good for Lions.

You da man, Soundy...... always have the answers.

I'm almost positive it's David Braley who is in favor of the home black outs and is the one who doesn't want them lifted.

carisear 08-15-2009 04:37 PM

correct. it is david braley. he's said multiple times "when we sellout our games, i'll lift the blackout"

man even chicago has lifted their blackout for hockey -- blackouts suck. i too had season tickets last year, and used to go to the occasional home game when i didn't, but when i don't, i want to watch it on tv! i have to use internet streams now to get around it =(

Actually, it's a CFL policy, but Bobby was one of the biggest proponents of it. Hard to argue with a guy with his kind of business smarts, too (if you haven't read it, go check out his book, "The Water Boy").

As it turns out, TSN's current five-year deal with the CFL states that each team must lift the blackout for a total of 25 games over the life of the contract, plus blackouts are automatically lifted if a game is 90% sold out (hard to do in BC Place, not so much for most other venues in the CFL).

This should really be in the sports forum

sonick 08-15-2009 08:09 PM

I've never followed the Lions (let alone Football in general), but listening to Team1040 all day, reading Bobby Ackles' book, and seeing it on TV has gotten me to follow it somewhat to the point that I may try and catch a Lions game before this season ends.

Zach Champion is still with the Lions right? I suppose he'll be backing up JJ if Lulay and Pierce are unable to dress next game? Any reason why Lulay is/was the 3rd string for the last game even though Champion has been with the lions longer from what I understand?

the canucks thread isnt/shouldnt be there..

Soundy 08-15-2009 08:25 PM

Lulay had a better TC... he earned the third-stringer spot.

Anyone play Wendy's Kick for a Million?

I have a PIN. I'm not entering. I have bad knees from car accident. Not that I'm gonna win or anything. My playing days were over long time ago.

At least I won a free Frosty on the other side of the game piece (1 in 9 chance of winning).

PIN is.............P99364B23

go to

http://tsn.ca/wendys

to enter

If you use the PIN, tell the rest of us, so as not to waste other people's time.

Not a fan of that either. I think most people distinguish the "sports fourm" as more of a fitness/local leagues as pretty much evidenced by 90% of the threads there. Plus it doesn't get any traffic.

I like it here, but that's me. Just like how the Hockey Pool suffered a slow death once it moved to the "Sports" forum. :(

Here's for hitting 500!

the Team mentioned he's going to take some time off to recover from his concussion.

Hondaracer 08-20-2009 08:42 PM

he's as fragile as dickenson though, enough with the chances

buono makes some decent moves but i really have never liked his QB descisions

MG1 08-21-2009 06:49 PM

Nice catch........... on handed. JJ's throw was on the money. Nicely laid up. What was that? Three plays? The interference call was a little iffy.

MR_BIGGS 08-21-2009 06:51 PM

That was a great catch..not a great celebration..but we'll let that go....the flag was a little iffy.

RS_Pat 08-21-2009 11:18 PM

Went to the game tonight, and boy did it turn to shit after that first drive... Almost 400 yards rushing surrendered, wtf !

Soundy 08-21-2009 11:21 PM

Fucking epic failure... glad I decided to go hang out with some old high school classmates tonight, instead of accepting an invitation to the game.

MG1 08-21-2009 11:29 PM

I stopped watching mid way into the 4th quarter.

Sad, indeed.
