Damn, the roads are fricking slippery!

Is it me or are the roads slippery as fuck?
I was driving to work yesterday morning when it was raining really hard. I spun out and did a complete 360 at 70km/h while changing lanes on the Knight st bridge.
I almost shat my pants

careful driving out there :(

The_AK 08-10-2009 01:40 PM

summer tires?

brute_4s 08-10-2009 01:54 PM

i hope u realize that when it hasnt rained for a long period of time and then does suddenly, all of the oil that has seeped into the road floats on top of the water thus making the roads extremely slippery....its common sense and says it in the icbc new drivers booklet. y do ppl forget how to drive in the rain?

sonick 08-10-2009 02:10 PM

Yeah, I couldn't help spinning the tires going southbound on Boundary Sunday morning.

Decent all-seasons too (BF Goodrich Traction T/A), just that a 940 kg car with only half of that over the rear wheels doesn't provide a lot of traction.

I did a 180 in similar conditions several months back at that little mini-Laguna-Seca corkscrew at Sea Island going onto the Arthur Lang bridge.

Mugen EvOlutioN 08-10-2009 02:54 PM

yup i almost fucking crash into the wall this morning

wat the fucking hell

turning 90 degree turn at 30km, semi accelerating thru the corners and i was going 45 degree sideway, was like WTF man

coming home off work, jesus the roads are fucking slippery. I was mad slipping till 3rd gear

even off the line at 2000rpm first gear i have no traction all the way up to 5000rpm till 3rd gear...cant accelerate shit, had to use 2nd gear to start.

piss me off

and this is with decent performance all season with about 90% tread left. Before it rained it was never this slippery, today is just absolutely a nightmare to drive

FUCKING HELL!!!

constantly raining like in october is different than hasnt rain in a month.

When it constantly rain i can still launch, today? i cant even start first gear properly unless i do it like a turtle...which aint my style
0-60 takes wat? 12 seconds?

ilvtofu 08-10-2009 03:56 PM

haha I just bought new SPTs, they're okay in the wet, but i notice a bit more wheel hop today, like violent wheel hop XD, i didn't know i had that kind of power. I've just been driving slow though, not like my car can go fast neways...

SuperSlowSS 08-10-2009 04:08 PM

you just suck at driving

i dunno, i had SPT before, and i find them pretty slippery in the rain if i wonna push it

launch nor cornering...

shenmecar 08-10-2009 05:02 PM

Traction Control On.

kenny@s2ki 08-10-2009 05:09 PM

Traction Control off

hk20000 08-10-2009 05:15 PM

me HEART today's road conditions.

Yes I drive RWD, why would you ask?

Mugen EvOlutioN 08-10-2009 05:16 PM

hey RWD will slide out and fish tail just as bad, drifting all over the place

needs AWD in this case

hk20000 08-10-2009 05:19 PM

drifting is so much fun I don't care.

Red 5 08-10-2009 05:38 PM

LOL, you guys need some better tires and some much better driving skills.

Fafine 08-10-2009 05:47 PM

my tires are bald and i turn just fine unlesssss i rip that shit! LOL drifttt

godwin 08-10-2009 06:03 PM

AWD and Traction control have their limitations especially since it is the tires loosing adhesion due to loose stuff and dried up oil patches..

Give it a few days of constant rain.. the road will improve.

if you guys were slipping and sliding everywhere, you suck at driving.

i have rwd and i didn't have any problems. lots of rain after a long period without requires more caution. quit driving like a retard.

thumper 08-10-2009 06:56 PM

holy hell some today making a left turn looped his jetta right in front of me on king ed. he wasn't even going that fast... went through one of the big puddles and the next thing i see is the car spinning out :o

jeff_alexander 08-10-2009 07:04 PM

You guys need to improve your car control skills. I am driving on bald rear tires with over 400ftlb of torque and traction control off and I have no problem.

Your commute clearly does not include turning right onto Hastings eastbound from Boundary.

The_AK 08-10-2009 07:20 PM

Maybe you should invest in chains, watch a sudden boom in chain sales so people can put them on their cars for freak unprecedent rain falls like this

2damaxmr2 08-10-2009 07:56 PM

i have no problem driving my foxbody mustang. It has no ABS, summer tires, tons of torque.

Blinky 08-10-2009 08:36 PM

How the hell do you spin FWD?

Be an idiot and drive like an idiot. Take corners at the limit and lift mid-corner. Yah, that's the ticket.

Driving RWD in conditions like today isn't too difficult. Just quit dreaming of truly aggressive corner exits and you'll be fine.
