heh, my 60GB PS3's GPU was failing and i was able to sell it for $350 on CL 3 days before the price drop!. went to BB and price matched the walmart 80GB+KZ2 offer. the guy threw in infamous for free for buying the warranty.

returned the warranty the next day, and traded kz(already had a copy) for prototype lol. sweet!

BLUETIGER 08-26-2009 04:58 PM

ENDGADGET REVIEWS PS3 SLIM as a BD Player http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/27/p...3-slim-review/

Synopsis from blu-ray.com

Quote:

Tech site Engadget has just published an in-depth review of the slim PS3, including its performance as a Blu-ray player. One of the review's findings is that the new PS3 is slightly slower when loading a Blu-ray disc. On the other hand, improvements such as reduced power consumption and lower noise are confirmed.

The Engadget crew was surprised by the slower BD load times. They measured two sets of data: the time between inserting the disc (listening for that last little "click" sound) and having it register in the XMB; and the time it takes to get a non-loading once you click on the disc and actually launch into the movie. Disc recognition time was virtually the same, but actual loading took a few seconds longer on the slim PS3. For example, 'Watchmen' took 27 seconds to show the first disc screen on the slim, versus 23 seconds on the original. The smallest difference recorded was 2 seconds with 'Air Force One', and the largest was 10 seconds with 'The Nightmare before Christmas'.

Power consumption when watching a Blu-ray was drastically reduced. The slim PS3 drew 75 watt during Blu-ray playback, versus 167 watt on the classic 60GB PS3.

The noise levels improved considerably as well. According to the review, the PS3 is up to 10 decibels quieter than the classic 60GB PS3 while watching Blu-ray movies. In their own words, "during the quieter, more suspenseful moments of 'Watchmen', there wasn't any loud whirring noises this time to ruin the mood."

Bitstreaming of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD was confirmed.

The Bravia Sync feature was also tested, connecting the console directly to a 32-inch BRAVIA L-Series TV via HDMI. The reviewers were able to do some basic tasks like navigate the XMB menu and control video playback, but operation was limited - for example, you can turn off the PS3, but not turn it on.

Engadget also mentions that unlike the classic PS3, the new console doesn't have a physical on/off switch.

Mugen EvOlutioN 08-28-2009 07:09 AM

needs a faster Blueray laser

underscore 08-28-2009 07:59 AM

I think the 10dB less ambient noise is worth the 3-10 sec more load time.

Without a physical on/off, what are you supposed to do when/if the system jams up? I know I've had a demo that jammed up our PS3 and the only way to shut it off/reboot was to hit the back switch. It's also a good idea to use that prior to plugging/unplugging it. I guess just use the switch on a surge bar?

there's a pretty good deal right now going on at Dell

Slim + BD Remote + Burnout Paradise + Driving Force Wireless = $370

ImportPsycho 08-28-2009 07:26 PM

some idiots on CL thinks it's 2006november, selling slim over retail price...

Mugen EvOlutioN 08-28-2009 11:53 PM

woot got my slim

twitchyzero 08-29-2009 12:34 AM

I'm not sure why Sony didn't include the fat PS3 under the BraviaSync system...it's like its major blu-ray player too..was disappointed when i found out i couldnt use my TV remote

Worth getting now that the price has been cut down? They're cutting down the price of the 360 too so I think now might be a good time to finally grab one of these consoles! (Have the Wii but when you love sports games the Wii just doesn't cut it!)

.Renn.Sport 08-29-2009 02:23 AM

it was a good time to pick either of them up 3years ago

considering the blu ray remote is 25bucks, $45 for a wheel + burnout paradise is a great deal...yes?

I might be wrong...someone is selling BOparadise for xbox360 for $5 bucks used..http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/va...348071522.html

Game must blow.

Wheel + Game combo is only $70 on the site itself, so you're basically saving $15 on the blu-ray remote.

On the fence with this one, no shifter, or brake/gas pedal, it's the lowest wheel model they have, the other ones all have a wrapped steering wheel lol....GT5 around the corner.. ahh choices.
