that picture of the paramedic sitting there brought tears to my eye paramedics has to be one of most stressful and depressing jobs out there to see people's body condition after an accident and in the scene but ya, really tragic, hope the mother recovers but seriously, even she will be tormented for years.. RIP |

I take back what I said earlier. I incorrectly assumed the truck was turning right. He was turning left instead. Probably tried to clear the intersection to avoid oncoming traffic then, instead of waiting. I admit I've done that before a few times. The question now is whether or not the mother had a clear WALK symbol at the time of the collision or if she was trying to rush across an intersection that recently flipped to solid DON'T WALK as well. In any case, this is a lesson of Situational Awareness for all. RIP. |
Regardles of who was at fault or how it happened, you should STILL, ALWAYS, OPEN YOUR EYES and BE AWARE of what traffic is doing around you. I see SO MANY people jogging with headphones on, looking ONLY straight ahead as they run through intersections - I just want to get out and SMACK THEM in the head and tell them to BE AWARE. |
this is a sad story.. pedestrians and cyclists are 2 biggest hazards in downtown core !!! pedestrians never pay attention to the signal ... when there is a HAND signal present even with the green light... that means pedestrians needs to STOP and time for car to make turns !!! 95% of the pedestrians do not follow... they usually try crossing the streets at 0.5km/hr or talking on phone, texting and shit.. if you honk at them, the mad ones will come smack on your car hood and shit... now i just dont bother..... let all motherfucking pedestrians passed first while swearing in the car .. LOL that fucking pissed me off |
So sad, if that happened to my son I don't think I'd even want to live anymore. Pretty sure I'd be broken and totally shattered inside, I hope that mother finds a way. |
RIP... gastown / abbot st is mostly 1 way.. and i must admit... some cars just fly by even though there are a lot of pedestrians.... rip again.. |
RIP...sorry to hear |
Hopefully the mother surives. |
this is a sad incident and with the way the drivers are, even when I get the green light to cross, I wait and check to make sure no cars are going to turn without stopping like in this case. |

it's OK to drive that way just to make a few more bucks? and "that's the way it is?" NO - you fucking MAKE AN EFFORT to be careful not to hit someone when you're driving downtown... the responsibility is on YOU since you're in a car , and using money as an excuse to be a poor driver is just stupid. |
Fuck...this is extremely sad :( RIP :( :( :( |

I don't have a link to a facepalm picture, but this deserves one. RIP to the child. |

How do you know the guy is careless? Maybe he just didn't see the lady. Jumping to conclusions much. And no I'm not a tow truck driver, but I know a few ;) |
Wow RIP...:( Reminds me of this one time near Lansdowne Mall, they were doing construction there and somehow managed to turn one of the pedestrian lights to face the other direction so it gave pedestrians a walk signal even though it should have been a solid hand signal. A family was crossing and was wondering why cars were still going through  |

1. really hard to drive fast in a big truck / fast cab 2. hard to drive aggressive in a confined space with lots of people 3. ok to drive aggressively to make a few more bucks, without any care of the safety of the pedestrians i'm not talking about this specific incident where we don't know enough details yet to determine what had happened exactly. the point is that someone mentioned that there are too many lousy truck / cab drivers in town, and you jumped out to say that it's the way it is because that's how they drive and how they work.... THAT'S what people get worked up about - the fact that you keep saying it is OKAY to do so ( to be bad drivers) because of their occupation. Well, it is NOT. anyway.. sad story, but serves to remind us to be REALLY aware of your surroundings when crossing intersections on foot, and if you're the driver - to be extremely careful when driving in a densely populated area. |
I agree with both arguments that drivers and pedestrians should both be more aware. Tonight I was night driving in Surrey on a red light and turned right when there was no traffic, only to slam on the breaks when a dog darted out onto the road and a man after him (when the crosswalk said stop). I yelled at him to put his dog on a leash and then he gave me the finger. |
this is extremely sad, RIP young one. |
