This thread has been a good read, interesting to hear how different familys "operate". I'm going to be moving out on the 1st, I don't really care the reason as to why she wanted to jack up my price, but I think she's going to give me a "reason" for the price increase tonight. OH JOY.
Also, I have been living on my own for the past 4 years with no problems, I just had an issue with my last two room-mates, and needed a temporary place to stay till Jan.

Meh I paid rent once I gradded from High School.
Lets be honest here a lot of Asian Kids are ridiculously spoiled, personally I don't think that's a good way to come up. Sure you might be better off, but a lot of those spoiled brats I see post on RS, tend to be whiney assholes personally.
Keep your head up Hotsauce, weather the storm, worse comes to worse you can dump yourself in a cheap furnished suite for a few months until you've gotten on your feet.
I know a lot of people who went through the same situation, family can be messed up sometimes, but you keep rolling.

OP's white mom may be a fucking bitch, but I can think of examples of asians living at home who are fucking stressed as shit, because since they live at home they are basically "owned" by their parents. They are still told who to date, who to hang out with, etc. Just go look at some of the anonymous posts at the relationships forum, and you'll see how these awesome non-rent-charging parents treat their adult children. That is just as sad to me. Both cases are extreme, and pretty sad, and shouldn't be used to generalize.
Personally, I would rather be kicked out or charged double rent than be told that I can't date certain people, but maybe that's because I'm white? Who knows.

Most kids from wealthier families are spoilt, regardless of ethnicity. Its just that in Vancouver there are a lot more Chinese people and wealthy(ier) Chinese families in particular.
There are tons of pampered caucasian kids in West Van, a lot of pampered Chinese (or Asian) kids in Vancouver and you will see next to zero pampered kids in poor areas (of any ethnicity) in places like Surrey.

"If you are living under my hood, there are rules" , the rule that goes on to dating is a bit harsh in your case and the fact that this is only happending to minority of people.
