no they're actually not the best, unless you want to deal in cash.

If you're willing to deal in bankdrafts and or bank transfers there are better places that will beat whatever VBE is offering. Of course these places are not for small fish who want to just do a few grand. If you have 10 grand or more you want to exchange, let me know I'll refer you to a better place than VBE.

NEVER FUCKING GO TO BANKS TO EXCHANGE YOUR MONEY.

unless of course you're exchanging 500grand or more and or you have very close relations with your bank. otherwise the bank will rip your fucking ass off and jew you to death.

than go where to exchange

We are showing the actual exchange rates whereas the banks have an altered exchange rate so that they can get some profit when you exchange as a "service charge" type deal.

BlackZRoadster 10-09-2009 08:54 AM

^ ah ic, so technically those rates posted arent really possible for normal people to get when they just buy a small amount, like a few G's

vancouver bullion is .9718 right now, do they charge fees?

q0192837465 10-09-2009 08:57 AM

So for VBCE, do u just walk into their office with cash in hand & tell them to exchange?

Hmmm

They are buying at 1.029000 (USD to CAN) (1.029 CAN is for 1 dollar USD)
And they are selling at 1.056000 (CAN to USD) (so for 1.056 CAN is 1 dollar USD)

Do you see the difference there? That is the mark up from the real market.

Real market is at 1.0424 (USD to CAN) and 0.9593 (CAN to USD)

I better get a thanks for this.

Yup, that is pretty much it..

Unless you have 5k or more and they'll do something special for you.

Keep in mind, the price to buy US money and to sell US money is different.
TD bank is quoting $1.0712 to you to buy US funds and $1.0212 for you to sell US funds.

It is 0.95837 on www.xe.com right now

I guess it depends on location.

The one I usually go to is on the one on Granville. Though I know the manager in the downtown location. I have never asked for something special though as I have never really needed the better rate (usually do like 1k transfers or less) so it isn't necessary.

But the special thing is of course just a better rate. How much better? I'm not too sure, you can of course call the line and ask.

Time to go to the states! Long weekend here I come!

LemonH2O 10-09-2009 09:22 AM

Shit, totally forgot it was long weekend when we planned our Seattle trip a couple weeks ago, FAIL. Not even going to attempt the madness at the border...

Hehe 10-09-2009 10:04 AM

Actually if you are exchanging anything over 3K, just call around for rates, take the best rate (say if it's 0.954) and add a lil bit more (say 0.950) and hit up your bank, in my case with RBC, they would match or even beat that rate most of the time.

In FOREX, it's all about volume, the more you have, the better rate you would get. Big banks tend to exchange a much larger sum in a day than what an exchange house would do in a week or even month. Thus, they could offer better rate if they decide to do so.

tool001 10-09-2009 10:09 AM

i bought almost 30K last year from VBCE, in richmond, i called around and the richmond location gave me the best rates. even though they have 3 branches.

IIRC, you need like 1 or 10k to get into forex though?

Not really, depends on how you want to play it. But it usually only make sense if you go big. I haven't met any1 in Forex having fund less than 300K

But Forex is really good for people who do much int'l businesses.

For example, an importer that I know invests heavily in Forex. Since he receive his payment in different currency from time to time, and he just pour most of non-flowing cash into forex. His listings on different currency can value anywhere from a few hundred bucks worth to almost a mil.
