if you have a self brokerage account, you just call in and get them to change it to US funds. the person i talked to said there is no commision or fees when switching but not sure if i belive that

Nssan 04-01-2010 12:12 PM

you are getting ripped off

go to Vancouver Bullion or Money TT in crystal mall

TheKingdom2000 04-01-2010 12:25 PM

for you to buy $USD at par you would technically buy it when the canadian dollar is higher... since the bank charges take a cut =/

if you're exchanging anything below $1k don't even bother going to VBE unless it's right across the street from you...
Just go to a bank. the difference in their commission is negligible..

you will only notice a significant difference if you xchange $5k and up...
unless you're really penny pinching.. but then think about the gas it will take to drive to VBE or similar...

cctw 04-01-2010 12:30 PM

^i usually go to the exchange place where yaohan mall is in richmond..
or the one where empire is..

prices are almost the same..they tack about 1.5 cents on top per dollar

and i thought banks tack on 2.5 or 3 cents on top per dollar...that is a $10 difference per $1000 which does make the drive worthwhile..

drunkrussian 04-01-2010 02:19 PM

vancouver boullion is good

but if u have a friend who works at a bank, they can get you a discount staff rate, which is 1 to 1 to the exchange rate ;-)

HonestTea 04-01-2010 03:03 PM

^
Are you serious? My friend works really high up in one of the big banks and I remember him telling me, he can't get market rates.

SpuGen 04-01-2010 03:03 PM

I have $800 USD in my paypal..
Should I use it or wait till the Canadian dollar drops again?
When do you guys think it will drop?

At BMO, their exchange rates are 1c on the dollar more than VBCE. I'm sure most banks are probably around the same. (so if VBCE sell rate is 1.0200, then BMO will sell for 1.0300). Since I usually only buy $500 at a time, it's only $5 more. Not exactly enough to make the trek to VBCE worthwhile. VBCE needs to open a location in Metro...or at least somewhere in Burnaby...

if you have at least 3 grand to exchange and not in cash (meaning you have accounts in both currencies), contact me, only if you're serious, otherwise fuck off don't waste my time.

I can get you a better deal than VBE or the bank or whereever the hell you go.

don't bother contacting me if you don't have at least 3000 dollars.

don't bother contacting me if you plan on giving me or expecting me to give you cash. bank transfers, drafts and certified cheques only.

the earliest I can do any exchanges for you guys is monday, since we're closed fri and the weekend. the more money the better rate obviously. any questions just ask.

no it's not 1 to 1. it's more like 1 to 1.002 or something rather.

SOME exchange places can beat that rate, but only for baller clients, if you're hooked up, or if they just want your business. I recall a client recently getting charged a spread of .0005 (yeah three 0's). but then again he was doing 1.5m dollars. don't expect to get anywhere close to the actual market rate unless you're doing large amounts. i mean large amounts.

bcedhk 04-01-2010 06:54 PM

so Money TT is good? do you know if they will open tmmrw??

stupid question, but should i exchange to US first before getting Euro's or just exchange CDN -> Euros? I have arond 3k i want to swap in Euro's for my trip in April and i think this is a good time to do it :D

Amuse 04-01-2010 07:17 PM

If I exchange my US paypal money to CAD, I get less CAD for the same amount of USD!! I have to wait until CAD drops back down again!

cctw 04-01-2010 10:27 PM

^of course lol..paypal has ridiculous exchange rates

yes money wire is okay, but there is a wiring fee (which is not worth it for 3g)

just exchange canadian to euro. if you go cad to US then US to euro, you'll be paying two spreads instead of one.

we do GBP, HKD, EURO, USD, YEN, CAD.

haha yup my gf works a lower level job at bmo. They get staff rates, which are equivalent to the exchange rate. The other good thing is they can get you specific things - like I wanted a lotta 1's, so she got me 50 1's. Harder to get that otherwise!

With that said, the staff rate is for THEM. So if u ask your friend to get it for you, he'd have to pretend it's for himself haha (i think). They get all sorts of discounted goodies - insurance and travel insurance for employees/family members too

saying "fuck" a lot is always the best way to get a client.

Ulic Qel-Droma 04-02-2010 12:25 PM

it is. it shows i mean business, lol. I ain't a broker, I'm just refering RS'ers to somewhere they can get a better rate, I get no benefits from this. you know the last time i told people about this how many mother fuckers PM'd me and still wanted cash exchange or only wanted to do like 500 bucks!? people on RS don't get the message unless you're fuckin vulgar.

it doesnt matter, anyone with serious money is just going to go wherever they can get the best rates anyways. money talks.

i already got 2 people interested in exchanging 50-80g's. business is business. this aint mcdonalds, smiles aren't free.
