So what is considered "earning it" ?

If a kid passed his road exam and got his N. And rich daddy said, good boy! Here's your 350Z.

Did he earn it? I mean he did pass the road test afterall........ =/

If rich spoiled kids weren't looking down on other people's rides I don't think this would be an issue.

Also, I think people might confuse "hate" with "respect", or lack of. We don't necessarily hate you cuz mommy and daddy bought you a car, but you're not gonna get any respect, no matter what you drive, especially if you're a douchebag.

I think it's okay to be powered by parents...but as long as the person appreciates what he has then it's alright. As long as the kid isn't spoiled to the point where they think they are better than others and constantly looking down on people...

People who "hate" are just jealous, no if's and but's.

I personally think its a bad idea for parents to buy their kids any kind of car but I don't care either way. I know wealthy kids who's parents buy them everything they want but are also brilliant and will be rich later on anyways. I also know some spoiled kids that have everything they want but are dumb dumb's and will be devastated when their parents stop supporting them. The same idea applies to kids who don't have wealthy parents.

This attitude has been around since the beginning of humanity. It has nothing to do with "rich Asians kids from Richmond" LOL.

This used to be called the bourgeoisie versus the proletariat, they even had a whole war and revolution about it. In modern times, its called old-money versus new-money.

You can't really do anything about that. The person who buys a car, pays for insurance, and use their hard earned money for any mods get more respect.

If your parents buy your car, they own you, and your livelihood.

I think it's fucking stupid when people get their cars paid for by their parents, and then they spend money modding it.

But one's gotta remember that there's cultural differences, then there's plain spoiled and conceited 18 year olds who are either high school drop outs or people who gave no shit about school and graduated with near F average for the sake of graduating, driving a high end car with a 3000$ body kit working at MacDonalds while all his friends who dont have rich parents and nice cars or even those who do (whether asian or not) are working their butts off either at college or an actual job. Or both.
/run-on

When it comes down to that, it's rarely a case of ignorance and jealousy on the observer's part.

Like most ppl said, I applaud those who earned their veihicles whether they bought themselves or gift from family, just the latter described above of teens who got a 50K car because their family's got the cash and are at "that driving age", then the kid drives it flaunting their high and mighty status i can't accept.
why would you care unless you think it's unfair, which also also means jealous. What i got out of your message is that we should be hating on those who get something REALLY good from their parents, even though they did not eat it themselves.

Let me put it in another way if you are fogged by your own vision. You are jealous that some lazy, dumb, 18-year-old drop out teens get nice cars and you don't. So basically, you're jealous. I mean, why would that even bother you if you're not jealous. Just ignore those shits. I too obviously know they don't deserve it, but whatever man. Their parents' money and decision. Just let them enjoy life, and we should just ignore them if they start bragging. We shouldn't hate on them just because they are powered by parents because hate is a kind of jealousy.

Those who hate those who have everything handed to them are just jealous... I am and we all are if were aren't spoiled.

It's not the kids fault being born in a rich family, only thing that makes a lot of them fucked up is they don't know how it is not being able to buy something that you want and can't get.

If I were a parent I would want my kids to have the best of the best. Now stop complaining and ignore the individuals that got it good and concentrate on what you're doing. Do well, you can do whatever you want with the money.

Look it all comes down to this.

If you worked hard for your own car, I salute you.
If your parents bought you a nice car and you're treating the car well, know money doesn't grow on tree's and don't try to talk down on people who don't have a car as nice as yours, I salute you.

But if your parents bought you your M3 or w.e. and you look down on anyone because their car isn't as nice as yours, you should probably off your self.

Buy them a nice car, that is safe, so they can get around without any hassle, get them through school, and in return, Asian children tend to take care of their parents in the future. Haters are people who just do not understand or try not to understand cultural differences. The word for it being ignorance.
That's a generalization if I have ever read one.

Most North American parents don't lavish their kids with expensive gifts to exert control over them.

I am/was powered by my parents, they bought me my first car. I currently work 2 jobs while taking a full course load at school hoping to downplay that stereotype.

I also have respect for those that work hard and accept gifts from their parents (in the form of a car). There is one point that I'm trying to make and that is the fact of whether they deserve it or not. Not all of us were lucky enough to be born into a wealthy family, and have everything breastfed to us.

By the way, I don't have anything against the car itself, just the "Powered By Parents" Owner of it.
where and how do you draw the line between slacker and hard-working though.

Say there is a kid that tried for something but failed, i could say he is a slacker cause he has nothing to show for it and is "powered by mommy and daddy"

Compare that to another dude that has big dreams that haven't materialized yet, i could also call that guy a slacker.
