It is a common amongst the new c-class that their steer fluid line explodes during hard driving. So Blinky makes/made a lot of sense.

First off, a lot of people in here need to take a step back and relax.

"Powered by parents" reeks of jealousy unless the douchebag brags about his car or ridicules your car because his is better, then, and only then, it's warranted. It gets thrown around way too often and most of the time it's because people are jealous.

Just because their parents bought them their car, it has nothing to do with how much of an asshole he is. You're just taking a low blow at the guy because:
a) you can't find anything else to diss him with, and/or
b) you're jealous, and/or
c) you feel that just because you worked for your own car, it makes you better than him.

Yes I understand that some people work really hard to get their dream car themselves but on that basis alone, it doesn't make you better than the spoiled kid. It doesn't concern you if he is a slacker or not. Granted that it is pretty stupid for parents to spoil their kids even when they're not going anywhere in their life. But not everyone needs to be poor to understand the value of money. Not everyone who gets a nice car deserves to be labeled "powered by parents." If you disagree with that last statement then think about the reverse situation: People calling you a broke ass bum because you didn't get a nice car. Senseless right? Don't give me that "but they ARE powered by parents" bullshit. You ARE a broke ass bum aren't you and no your parent's assets don't count.

It's all about your personality. If you are an asshole then you are an asshole, no matter if you're rich or not. If they are rich, it doesn't make them an asshole. Likewise, if they are an asshole, it doesn't mean they are rich.

In JackyJai's defense. I believe that his answer (to blame your parents for not working hard and making money) is the extreme opposite answer to the ignorant kids who run around calling everyone with nice cars "powered by parents."

It's 3:05AM sorry if some of it doesn't sense! Let me know and I'll clarify!

As long as family money isn't the only quality a person has, what the hell is wrong with powered by parents?

I know tons of poor people who slack off during school, and ended up in some random college or dead-end entry level jobs. i also know tons of rich people who get straight A's and go to harvard and cambridge, etc. and drive amg's, m cars, p cars, r8, and tts, etc. and vice versa. The thing is that cars are not related to whether the person is a fag or not.

However, it is true that rich friends seldom or almost never let any "poor" people into their circle, or rather, they cannot get in. This is most obvious in asia, and also here in Canada, but not as extreme. Having a rich family is the easy route to success in life because rich family = rich car = rich friends = easier opportunities.

In my third year of university, my mom bought me a second hand '77 Civic from her savings. I really, really needed a car and she knew it would help me out. Going from my variuos jobs to get to school in decent time and whatnot was pretty important. I was so happy to get the Civic. I cherished it and looked after it like it was my child. My parents also helped with tuition, as I was going to be the first in my family's history to get a university diploma. I was not going to let them down.

I don't hate people who have it made. I envy them. No two ways about it. More power to them, I always say. The nice thing about being poor is, you learn the value of money and appreciate everything you have out of necessity. If I ever lost everything I have now, it's going to be a lot easier for me to deal with than if I were rich to begin with - wouldn't know how to deal with not having what you're used to.

If I were rich, I'd give my kids whatever it took to make them successful. So when I hear about "Powered by Parents", it doesn't bother me one bit, as I understand that it's a parents job to help their children out in any way possible. Spoiling them, of course, is not cool, but.........

Having said all that, my kids aren't spoiled, even though they think they are (kind of weird). I think my wife has done a good job raising them. Nothing in our family goes to waste. We live comfortably, but from day one they definitely appreciated everything and anything they got. Perhaps it's the stories we've told them about the struggles we had when we were kids. Who knows? I guess that makes me the happiest parent in the world. My children are very honest and have high moral standards. A heck of a lot more than me, that's for sure. I'm proud of them. Just thought I'd brag a bit about it here. LOL.

If a person with a high priced vehicle looked down on me for driving a POS car, I'd feel sorry for them. They obviously haven't got their head screwed on right. In the end, we all die. Whether it be from cancer, disease, or plain bad luck. Rich or not, it's how we lived our lives that will matter. I'd much rather die respected by friends as well as by total strangers for the positive things I've done than die a filthy rich bastard.

My biggest fear....... winning the lottery. I hope it doesn't corrupt me. I've never been rich, but I imagine it must be tough. Not knowing who’s a friend, who to trust, etc.

Anyway........... tonight is a very boring night for me. I'm rambling on and on and on. LOL.

'89blkcivic out
damn. wife and kids, and potentally a lot of other illegitimate ones... and a 77 civic.

i have to ask 89blkcivic... what year were you born? we need to carbon-date you

I skimmed through a lot of this so I'm sorry if I missed some key parts.

FIRST:

Asian people are taking over Vancouver and that's life. The poor Asian people are not coming here, the rich ones are. If only the rich people are coming here and the bulk of them are Asian, there is going to be an obvious perception that all Asians are rich.

Not all Asians are rich, but many of the people who come here from Asia are doing much better financially than the people who lived here previously. Sorry but it's the truth.

As long as this is an attractive alternative to wealthy Asians, this is not going to change. Deal with it.

SECOND:

While Asian 'face' and image is important, it is not exclusive to Asians. Many people may feel it is due to the influx of wealthy Asians into the lower mainland, worldwide, this is not the case.

Have you ever been to Monaco? Dubai? I have and if you want to talk about 'face' and attitude and having bragging rights, Vancouver looks like a garbage dump.

A friend of mine's parents moved there after he graduated from a tier one school in the US and his parents are considered poor even though his dad's daily driver is an SLR. It's mostly white people there. Pockets of California are really bad for this too, especially San Diego.

THIRD:

I hope I never have kids but if I ever had the misfortune, I wouldn't buy them a nice anything because that doesn't teach them anything. I would bust my ass to send them to Yale or Harvard and if it cost me a million dollars I'd pay it. I wouldn't even buy them an 86 corolla.

I agree with your first point, HOWEVER, the bulk of the rich chinese people in Vancouver came here in the past 4-5 years, after immigration laws were tightened (i think) to Chinese people. My family immigrated here in 1996 from Taiwan when you didn't need to be a frickin' millionaire (LOL) to immigrate to Canada. Also, not all the chinese people that come recently are rich, some of them use their life savings to come here, hoping of a better future for their kids in Canada

Well I see a White Lamborghini Gallardo parked at the UBC West Parkade regularly driven by a Young Chinese guy.

Kudos to him for snagging such a beautiful car. In fact he was there again today and is parked on the 5th level if any RS'ers want to go have a look...

Also two new Black M3's park here daily and driven, again, by younger students. See some nice cars in here daily.

Fact of life with UBC. Make it in and you get rewarded with a nice car.

Now myself, I did not have parents with money to do this for me and quite frankly even if they did, they would not do it for me! Makes me appreciate things a whole lot more now!

Point is I still appreciate nice cars and since people here joined RS, it seems you all do as well.

The thing is, parents of our generation still regard University as a big accomplishment. Most of our parents r just high shcool graduates. They feel that their son/daughter have outdone themselves and therefore deserve a big reward. I think this will change when it's our turn to become parents because University is not really hard to finish and we all have a U degree or some sort.

Maybe I should blame your parents for you having such a snobby attitude

I also think you completely missed the point of the thread, nobody blames the kid for having a nice car, its when the kid decides
to be a douchebag and act baller when he didnt pay for his shit himself
