My parents LOANED me money for my first car...
They could have easily just given me the car as a gift but they felt it was a valuable lesson to teach the value of money and debt repayment.
I think a lot of powered by parents never really learn these values.
A couple of my cousins were given brand new vehicles by their parents, and in both cases their vehicles were written off within 3 years by their own stupidity and carelessness. "Oh well daddy will buy me a new one" was the mentality.

I understand that some kids are lucky enough to be able to get these kinds of things from their parents--in fact, my first car was a gift from my grandpa (1991 Nissan Stanza, but by damn it WORKED!). I think the big problem is that those types of people just have never faced money or budget issues in the same ways those of us not born to rich parents have.
Majin has it right, it is easier when you've got rich parents. You don't always need to work through highschool or University in order to pay rent or buy food; that time saved means you have more time to study or work towards scholarships, reducing your personal costs of schooling. Higher achievement results in better job potential upon graduation.
It's a giant semi-perpetuating cycle. It is, of course, possible to break the cycle. But that's not to say it's easy. And it's that lack of empathy that's probably the most annoying thing about PbP people. That inability to understand WHY it's not actually possible to do what they do, or in the way they do it.

I also have respect for those that work hard and accept gifts from their parents (in the form of a car). There is one point that I'm trying to make and that is the fact of whether they deserve it or not. Not all of us were lucky enough to be born into a wealthy family, and have everything breastfed to us.
By the way, I don't have anything against the car itself, just the "Powered By Parents" Owner of it. | +1

Its not about the car someone drives, its about the person who drives it

I had a friend who was driving Pontiac then it crashed so mommy bought a Honda Accord, then again he crashed it, now he is equip with BMW 3-series.
Maybe the car he drives is not the most expensive car out there... but still ...3 cars is probably worth $100K
He doesnt appreciate at all

Thus giving me more and more inspiration to work harder so i can buy my kid(s) nice cars in the future

I think it's difficult when you have really young "car enthusiasts" who haven't had the chance to truly appreciate what is given to them by their parents. Then they boast at or insult other car enthusiasts who either work hard or appreciate what their parents have given them. People don't like cocky kids, that's why the drama-llama exists.
Unfortunate.

Sure they have the money and all, but they are not smart. They should be damn GLAD their son crashed twice and is still alive, should go to the temple and pray the gods or something. Let alone get him a THIRD car. =___=
I bet your friend is taking advantage of this, crash the car, get a better one. Pontiac -> Honda -> BMW -> Porsche???

After 8 years of school and thousands of hours hiding in dark libraries, I achieved a prosperous career that would allow me to order LARGE bowls of Pho, without flinching. Occasionally I can even treat myself with iced coffee.

I have lots of respect for that, because you earned with your tear and sweat, unlike those ungrateful bastards who has their parents buy them a large bowl of pho (with extra beef on the side too!). Last time I went for pho I saw a half finished bowl of pho, ironically enough it was left by those no good parent power kids. My heart filled with jealousy as I think of the thousands of hours achiam has spent in a dark library in order for him to afford his bowl of super yummy hot bowl of pho.

Some of them think buying a luxury car is safer for their children in case of accident.
Don't blame the kid, blame your parents for not working hard and slacking off their entire life so they can't afford to buy you a luxury car.
If your parents can afford you a brand new BMW for going to university I am sure you will just gladly accept it.
Your self bought shit box doesn't run any faster or look any better than powered-by-parents Lambo LP560-4.
You can start working hard and work yourself up and buy your sons or daughters some luxury cars so they wont be grow up as some pathetic kids who make fun of others because of jealousy. | Quote:

you know... those rich kids don't talk like that..
now you might ask me how I would know, and I would reply back I don't know.

Okay I was going to make a thread about this. This is a question I have been thinking about for years.
Why the fuck do rich kids go to University? I swear when I was working a delivery job driving around UBC I see kids with high end BMW, Audi, Mercedes and even better going from and to school. You're not going to land a job out of university right away which will let you live a wealthly life style, so when you already have it all why go to school? to show your parents or friends that you have a degree?
you don't understand my rage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
