GO CANADA!!!!!!

No, the 1972 Canada vs Soviet Red Army was........

Every fucking school in this country had hundreds of kids, teachers, and whoever else, watching the last game. Plus, every Commie this side of the astroid belt.

And this is back in the days of small TV's and rabbit ears.

Just kidding. Yeah, being Canadian just got a whole lot better. So cool to be Canadian. Always was and always will be. We just have one more awesome reason.

It's really good for the sport. I can see so many parents letting their kids get into it. I was at Costco and everybody was watching the game. Lots of people really didn't understand it, but they were interested nonetheless.

Not sure about the Russia game though.

My numbers are correct, at least to how they pertain to Canadian viewership. Trust me on this. :)

At this point in the Olympics, Saturday night, and this time of night you're actually lucky it's an hour wait.

MG1 02-27-2010 06:59 PM

I didn't know this until last night - heard it on the late evening news. The American government spends zero dollars on its athletes. Something about a deal they made eons ago with the IOC. Involves television rights and the money it generates. From the sounds of it, the US gets the most amount of money compared to the other countries. I recall hearing 121 million dollars. On top of that, corporate sponsorship and endorsement money in the US for its top athletes is lucrative.

If someone has more info, please add or correct any errors.

I am going to have serious withdrawals tomorrow. Fuck, 2 hockey games left only. What a feeling to be able to host the games and see so many Canadians proud of their country. When are we ever going to see that again?

Got my beer ready for tomorrow. Go Canada

+Kardboard+ 02-27-2010 07:32 PM

USA?

Bring it.

Canada reached rare heights Saturday, becoming only the third country to win 13 gold medals at the Olympic Winter Games.

A new mark for Winter Olympics will be set Sunday if Canada beats the United States for men's hockey gold.

An Olympics that had a stuttering start for the host nation gained yet more momentum Saturday on what was the first three-gold day in Canada's Winter Games history. The men's long-track team of Denny Morrison, Lucas Makowsky and Mathieu Giroux kicked it off by beating the United States at the Richmond Oval. Minutes later Jasey-Jay Anderson staged a dramatic comeback in the second leg of the Parallel Giant Slalom final to win gold.

And then Kevin Martin's rink beat Norway 6-3 in the men's curling final.

The only previous countries to win 13 gold in a Winter Games were the Soviet Union in 1976 and Norway in 2002.

The 13 gold medals is also a record for a host nation, breaking the previous mark of 10 set by the United States and Norway.

Canada seems certain to end the Games with 26 medals. Lyndon Rush's sled won a bronze Saturday in four-man bobsleigh. That's a record, two more than the 24 won in Turin four years ago.

I'm glad the Canadian Mint is sticking around for a little while as I haven't checked it out yet.
