Yep. The bins have serial numbers and there's a huge white strip for address.

As for filling other people's can, I put a latch on my mom's. Can put a lock on it until it's garbage day. She has never had to lock it.

Although it hasn't happened yet, I can see some kids going down the alley and turning all the garbage cans sideways just to fuck up the system.

Recycling one would be nice, but it must be nuts on the other end - sorting out the stuff.

Not sure about Burnaby but that's how the Vancouver ones work.
Woops I meant the bar is in the front and that's the correct way to put it.

We've had these in PoCo for a little while now. Not much of a hassle since they have big sturdy wheels and are not that hard to maneuver around. Just remember to put a little bit of space between each can.

This may be a problem for us people on Capitol hill who have driveways at the back alley and nobodys approach to the alley itself is flat.

Actually, we've had them for 5 or more years. Garbage every week and alternate recycling/yard waste.

That recyling bin cuts down on waste A LOT!!!.

My neighbors and I always share bins when ours are full, no biggie.

And pointing your bin the wrong way? Really? How hard is it to look to either side before you set it out?

wrong!

i used to be a garbage man for burnaby (once i heard about the automation like 2+ years ago i got out of the dept and into a different one)

the average time a garbage run would take...you'd start at 7...be finished by 10 30, you can run to each house and chuck the bags in and go...my buddies still work in sani. they've been telling me they start at 7 still...but dont finish now until 3pm+ (and their not getting extra pay for it)

this is 10x slower

and yes, its to prevent the ammount of WCB claims...however...since these trucks no longer need 2 people to operate them(they have 2 ppl right now while training them on the trucks)....think of how many people are getting laid off due to this.

Our own garbage cans, you know, the kind that you can buy at Home Depot.

I'm really looking forward to this. We have a huge problem with animals in our neighborhood. Raccoons running at the cans and knocking them over, then the crows and gulls coming in to pick away at the garbage.

It doesn't help that there are a few houses that are owned by some chiense people who don't use any kind of garbage bags and just put everything in safeway bags. I don't mind it so much except that they also put their garbage out the day before garbage day at like....6PM which is GREAT for the animals who're gonna knock it over and eat it and spread it ALL OVER the alleyway.

I'm so happy that I'll no longer have to deal with this crap, and I'll be able to put my garbage out the night before instead of having to get up an hour before normal to put it out.

When I moved from Langley to Burnaby, I was in for a surprise. In Langley, we could put out two garbage cans. It didn't matter how big or how heavy. I bought those huge rectangular shaped garbage cans. I would cram them to the top with garbage and they would weigh a tonne. It was a good thing they had wheels. The garbage guys had no issues with it. When I did the same thing in Burnaby, the guys refused to take it and left a sticky note saying it was too heavy. OK, so I started to use smaller garbage cans. Got another sticky note saying it was still too big and heavy. I then went and got the smallest garbage cans. Now everyhting is OK. What a bunch of whimps. The good thing is, you can put out as many garbage bags as you want. I have till the new system kicks in to get rid of all my junk. One week, I had 15 bags full of stuff from the move.
