Why PC gaming will always be better than consoles this may sound like a crackpot theory but i've recently come to this conclusion I finally convinced a friend lately to buy the Fallout 3 game of the year edition, i nagged him for the longest time telling him how great the game is, and i know it's the type of game he would like, so finally when the game of the year edition came out he bought it One night at his place we were having a few beers and i watched him play for an hour, once we called it quits i realized that the 360 version is a completely different experience than what i had playing on the PC the lack of overall detail on the 360 changed my entire feelings for the game watching him play, without the level of detail you are not nearly immersed nor does the world feel as real as it does on the PC everything looked so dreary and dark, washed out and blurry keep in mind this was on a 52" Bravia XBR4 so it's not like i was watching on a tube TV, but yea without that level of detail games are not nearly what they truely are, especially ones that have the amazing graphics i do give games like Drake's revenge their credit but it's still and always will be PC for me, some screens i took http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13...slayer/cod.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13...creenShot0.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13...reenShot14.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13...creenShot6.jpg |
It's likely that consoles will eventually be nothing more than data streaming devices, with PC's processing the graphics at a central location. Just like streaming a show over the internet, only with data going both ways. |
PC will not have the following games God of War Final Fantasy 13 (maybe after a few yrs when everyone forgets about it) Gran Turismo Forza Newest Halo Metal Gear Solid Uncharted Rockband/Guitar Hero and pretty much anything thats not a FPS will not be available on PC PC gaming is only good for MMO nowadays, who the fuck wanna buy a new video card to play the latest game.... not to mention all those random crashes window causes and high error rate in PC games, whats worst is that you find out that ur computer is too shitty to run the game at native resolution of your monitor cuz your pc is already obsolete when you just purchased the newest top of the line video card a year ago |
plus buying a gaming pc is expensive compared to a console.. ps3 is what? 299? xbox? 199? i do agree that some games like fps are better on pc but i doubt consoles will die.. |
consoles are there for the reasons hyde pointed out, the majority of people cannot afford to keep up a system that can play all current games another high point of the PC is brand new games are all free *ducks |
keep in mind, current gen consoles technology are from 3 years ago. PS3 is still running a 7800GTX only. back then, the video card alone cost more then the PS3 console at launch price. PC also have new hardware release every 6 months. When you are using a $2000 gaming PC compare with a $300 playstation, it better look good. But my point is. PC only have 1/10th of the games console will have. It will never be better then console, not to mention the ease of use in a console compare to a PC. It would take me roughly a minute to get me into the main menu of a game on a console. but on a PC, i'd have to install it, punch in the CD key, then mess around with the display setting before I can even start the game for the first time. |
^ don't forget updates, patches, and shit like how L4D2 is only working for like half the people who bought it (or so I read, don't hate me if that's false). Yes console games can be buggy but not near as buggy. Also is Fallout 3 ported from the PC -> 360? That would make a difference. As well as you are using two different screens. That and personally I don't see anything particularly stunning in those screenshots. |
Oh and I forgot one key thing: Splitscreen/same console multiplayer. Not very common for FPS but pretty much any other genre it can be great. |
PC games too expensive to keep up, buggy, incompatibility issues, hackers but dedicated servers, server list, mods and closer knit community is what will keep the hardcore gamers. I still prefer all my FPS because of the obviously great precision of mouse/keyboard. I like many of the casual gamers have moved onto console gaming and diminished the time on PC because it's too expensive to keep up with that, console can last you a good 6 years for $400-500 vs $1800 rig that can play optimally for 2 years MAX. If you're cheap like me tho invest in newer technology (dual core processor at the time) and you can always upgrade every few years with more ram and overclock. Shittier online experience (fucking 13 year olds whining in their mic), but you get to sit back comfortably in a couch, no bugs and incompatibility issues, wide variety of game titles, no hackers and you can invite frds to play along. |
^ good point about the 13 year olds, I swear I played a round of CoD4 earlier where I was the only one over 12. The plus side is they suck but the downside is I got teamkilled for being "too good." I swear they need to make it so it scans your fingerprint and confirms your age on the controller before allowing you to play M rated game, fuckin kids/shitty parents. |
buy a ps3 at launch, you've spent $500 for a console that will keep up for 6-7 years. buy a top end gaming computer, you've spent easily over $1000 for a system that will keep up for 2-3 years to play the same games. |
PC can do much higher resolution in gaming. I was playing COD:MW2 with 1920 x 1080 on my 55inch LED. Everything extra high detail. 4AA..etc. My young bro is drooling compare to his xbox 360....lol |

^ but that's only your video card. Add in everything else and you've spent way more. Controls are better for MMO and RTS but for FPS and everything else it's a personal choice. |
From what I know, if a console and a pc have the same game, the pc version will always have better graphics. Now you have to factor in the amount of pc games that come out vs consoles games. Guess it just depends on whether or not a game is available for the specified platform. I will always choose consoles over pc anyday. The last pc game I played is CS. |

I got out of gaming because of PC. Costs me too much to run the games (having to upgrade my computer every 2 years). Got back into gaming because of PS3, everything is cheaper and I can trade the games back in unlike PC games. |
I was a pc gamer, but console gaming is just so easy, no installing anything, no driver updates, no updating hardware. I love just relaxing on my couch now and playing games. I went from having a gaming pc to just have a 360 and a ps3. Also me and my bro love to battle it out in nhl. Two player gaming i find easier on the consoles. |

With how much the online market of consoles is coming along, most pc games are just going to be ported games. The console meets the requirements of a hardcore gamer and someone that just wants to pop a game in and play. I dont know anyone that would say PC > Console for gaming. |
My current pc is just over 2 years old, it cost around 1000 at the time with $200 in upgrades last week I can play the newest games at highest quality it's not like you can live with a console for Internet use etc so your kind of killing 2 birds with 1 stone with pc's Posted via RS Mobile |
