too bad they don't cover Surrey yet, or i'd be all over it

RacingMetro92 06-02-2010 08:10 PM

if you check the coverage maps on wind's website, it covers the GVRD and then some. Why go to Vancouver if you dont cover Surrey too?

wahyinghung 06-02-2010 08:36 PM

Gonna wait a month before I jump ship and let the early adapters test out the network first :D

the coverage maps aren't even up in vancouver for wind online... lol ...I went to blockbuster today, checked out their pamphlet, I'm pretty sure i saw Surrey in the red zone = future expansion

RacingMetro92 06-02-2010 09:14 PM

the coverage maps are up, as an AWAY zone for now, so itll probably change to home zones on release. you can still go to the van area and see it on their coverage map

J____ 06-02-2010 09:52 PM

whos going to the launch tomorrow? im heading down to get my BB and tell fido to fuk off!!! muahhahaha. At this point i dont even care if i get poor reception!

what i meant to say was that Surrey wasn't going to be in the home zone by the looks of what i saw, and though there is coverage, it's in the "away zone" thus higher prices, my bad!

slammer111 06-02-2010 10:58 PM

Kids.. http://www.spatialdatabox.com/map-de...anada-map.html

Check the WIND box and you'll see all their towers. :D It covers huge chunks (but not all) of Surrey, and even part of Langley. That's equal to the Big 3 (where it's Long D once you move past Langley)

The only thing that irks me is that S2S isn't covered between W Vancouver and Whistler.

woob 06-02-2010 11:06 PM

well that kinda sucks.... It would be considered roaming any time I head up to the local mountains. Are there any plans to expand the network? My Fido contract ends erm... today (woot past midnight) and I'm debating whether I should switch.

J____ 06-02-2010 11:18 PM

they're definately going to expand network in the future. Rogers didnt pop up one day with all thsoe towers. Fido had shit reception compared to rogers as well when they first launched. I remember i couldnt get reception in certain friends' houses.

i wonder what the range of each of those towers are, oh well i guess i will find out tomorrow!

i wonder what the 2 antenna vs 35 antenna means. Range of it?

jackmeister 06-02-2010 11:30 PM

hmm, it might be along time before call coverage matches or exceeds rogers.

just look at the difference in towers.. and i still get dropped calls here and there. i was so stoked when wind was coming but if dropped calls become the norm (as in toronto when they launched) then its gonna take a long time.

J____ 06-03-2010 12:08 AM

i just hope i get coverage at home lol. I live at granville and garden city. the closet tower is at minoru. i wonder if i'll get a signal. i was going to port my number right away but it looks like the smart thing to do is get another wind line and test it out beforehand.

TRD Rs200 06-03-2010 12:11 AM

I am SO heading down there first thing when I get up and grab myself a 2100 AWS BOLD2!

J____ 06-03-2010 12:50 AM

rs wind meet? lol

rk604 06-03-2010 07:06 AM

few of my coworkers live at no4 and alderbridge, not too far from granville n garden city, and they were able to get signal. This was PRE-launch so signals may get better as they haven't turned on all of the towers. Feel free to drop by at our location @ W 4th if you want a fellow RevScener helpin ya out :)

mk1freak 06-03-2010 01:12 PM

dammmm i wonder what data speeds are like the infinite laptop sounds good! i'd get the 10 buck sim and put it in my wwan on the lappy and enjoy unlimited data :)

anyone know?

jtanner_ 06-03-2010 01:21 PM

Saw their ad in the 24 paper today... definitely looks good in terms of prices... probably going to look in this as the coverage expands

Tim Budong 06-03-2010 01:35 PM

Its still very new, give WIND time
I will be honest, I wont be switching, but WIND has ALOT ALOT ALOT of money to throw, so its only a matter of time before they will expand to greater things

skyxx 06-03-2010 03:19 PM

Their current coverage isn't bad. It's the Vacinity of Vancouver, North/West Van, Burnaby, Richmond and some parts of delta and surrey I believe.

I would assume its pretty good. This article http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...rticle1590467/
says that the highest user has clocked in over 118 gigs of data in 1 month.
And wind does have coverage in areas outside of their official home zone. But they don't advertise it because they you may experience dropped calls and they don't want those people bitching it doesn't work as one might expect it

TheStig 06-03-2010 04:21 PM

Did they announce/release any new phones or plans with the Vancouver launch? From the website, it seems as if things remain the same.
