what plan did you get them to price match? did you have to resign on a 3yr contract?

JKam 06-03-2010 06:33 PM

wtf i just looked that Wind and Mobilicity plans and it costs more than my retention plan. Not going to bother switching.

I get unltd R2R, evening/weekend, incoming, text
vm, CID, 500mb data for $64 after tax.

If I want to get anything like that on either of the other networks it costs at least $65 before taxes. No thanks.

SpoonFit 06-03-2010 06:49 PM

To everyone who is planning on switching to the WIND mobile, might want to take a look at this, I work at FIDO and by no means am I posting this up to bash their sales but none other to help people on RS to get the best coverage possible :)
-
WIND ZONES in lowermainland include:
North: Part of North vancouver
East: to burnaby(except SFU)
South to richmond.
cities not included: delta, coquitlam, surrey, victoria, whistler etc. customers will be charged 25cents per min out of coverage.
Reception is relatively weak, ESPECIALLY in DT vancouver.

-
wind is per minute Billing

-
winds phone are higher in price and since they use the 1700 3G frequency, phones from fido, rogers, telus or bell will not work. Basically fido can use Winds phone but not the other way around.

-
Wind has no contracts, so WIND can easily change their offers or rates without notice****

-
wind has only 3 coperate stores in,lower mainland: others located in blockbuster video stores where customers will most likely NOT recieve professional service based on their needs.

These are just some of the things that have been pointed out by head office and would like to share with RS users =)

Razor Ramon HG 06-03-2010 07:50 PM

Damn, the areas of coverage sucks. Long distance in Coquitlam and Surrey? Wow.

skyxx 06-03-2010 08:42 PM

^ Don't forget, they're still putting up towers as we speak. It was the same when Fido started.

rk604 06-03-2010 08:50 PM

reception in dt seems to be okay for me when i was using it, have you used it? or are you just saying what you've heard?

we may not have the best selection in phones, but im not exactly sure what you mean about wind's phones being higher in price. isn't fido the one who charges 300-400 for their blackberry pearl?

wind does not have contracts, but those who activated and have been with wind, will keep the plans that they have. we don't have those kinds of tactics of trying to make customers resign a contract or they lose a certain feature ;) (i know this from experience because i had the city fido)

blockbuster stores may not be equiped with the coolest gadgets (microsoft surface), but we were all trained to have a conversation with our customers, so again, im not sure what you mean about wind not being able to give "profesional" help.

I understand that these are some things head office are pointing out, but i mean, let the customers decide. The people in Vancouver seem to have a good general knowledge of what the telecommunication business is all about. For exaample, they all know they were getting jipped by sys access fee, and contracts. There's none of that stuff in Asia, when my cuzin came down to canada, they were surprised that there's such things as contracts to phones. I'm sure those who know about retentions WILL or HAVE already made attempts to match or beat the plans WIND offers, so...it only shows that your just here to bash...CLEEEAAARLLLY

excuse my non-capitalized letters and my bad grammar, i am just continuously typing as the thoughts come thru

I'm worried about the coverage with Wind, but to SpoonFit who says Wind phones are higher in price... what are you smoking? not only are they way cheaper (Wind Blackberry is $450, Rogers Blackberry is $600) but there's a lot of phones that use the same frequency (t-mobile down in the states or asian phones for example) so you have a lot of options for buying phones. Also, in all my years at Rogers, I've never received anything CLOSE to professional service, I can't imagine anything could be much worse...

Too bad we have customers that are getting full coverage all the way up to white rock / south surrey... Haters Gon' Hate! ;)

LOL @ the Fido employee trying to trash the competition. And failing :lol

I especially love how he's trying to give us the benefits of being on a contract, lol. He must really want that activation commission.

And re: unprofessional service at BBV... it's not like a kiosk at the mall is any better.

when i joined fido when they launched, they were WAAAAAY worse than wind. LOL. If wind launched with better coverage than rogers, rogers and eat it's own shit. You're comparing a 20+ yr old company vs. a 1 yr old company. For what they are offering right now, it's 100x better than what any of the other telecom companies can dream of offering 10 years ago.

And wind's phones are some of the cheapest out there even compared to tmobile.

Haters keep hating lol.

Screw Fido, has the guts to call 1 week before Wind's launch threatening to raise my city fido bill to $50 from $45 unless I sign in a contract and stating how much of a good offer it is. As soon as I said oh really? then i'll go to wind, they offer a better deal for $40? lol talk about ripping off your customers in a non discrete manner.

how much are they payn u to post this

CP.AR 06-04-2010 10:08 AM

Not going to jump from Rogers just yet - If you look at their coverage maps, even UBC is not in a "home zone", and neither is my workplace in Delta...

Until they expand their coverage to the yellow area, I'm sticking with Rogers.

Question for all: are the WIND bands compatible with Asia phone 3G Bands?

woob 06-04-2010 10:18 AM

yeah. I've decided I'm not switching because I'm at UBC too often for any of the plans to be worth it >.< . This kinda sucks. I really want off Fido.

OTG-ZR2 06-04-2010 10:20 AM

^ Exactly why im not jumping on the band wagon yet. My house is not in a Wind Zone, niether is my place of work on Annacis Island. :\

Vinny G 06-04-2010 10:28 AM

I don't understand why neither UBC nor SFU are home zones at launch. Those two places would easily be 20,000 - 30,000 potential subscribers.

SpoonFit 06-04-2010 10:48 AM

LOL forgot RS likes to blow things up like usual, no I actually just had a chart which i joted down the main points.

But in the end of the day in terms of whats more reliable NOW WIND is not even in the picture. Sure in a few years im sure they will be better but from quite a few people who came into the store to switch ALREADY because the clients aren't getting the clear reception in their zone is MUCH MUCH more than enough evident that WIND is clearly up to par YET. So I don't know each to their own, im just pointing out what I have experienced and have heard. No need to be bashing anyone =)

Please dont breach your employee contract by disclosing garbage like this. Its a serious offence

Of course, I would want our great customers to continue to enjoy our wonderful reliable network we call Rogers Wireless/FIDO. Its not a healthy way to present the advantages and disadvantages of WIND Mobile. I do understand that our video stores are not up to par in terms of knowledge for Rogers Wireless products, but I do understand that WIND mobile has spent a large amount of money and time in order to provide the customer service to start up in Vancouver. I will admit that I am a little bit scared of the plans, but do know that a lot of customers generally do not mind getting into 3 year contracts as long as the customer service is excellent. Let WIND grow and hopefully, they can drive consumer pricing down within the big 3 so that we can all enjoy cheaper rates

Greenstoner 06-04-2010 12:51 PM

more mobile companies= cheaper rate

now

lets get more insurance companies in here

An online forum based website, is for people to discuss. I simply stated what i felt strongly is true and nothing more than a strong opinion.

Not because I work for a certain company, or any of that.

I wanted to share some IDEAS wit RS.

If you people don't like the idea or agree that is fine, but no need to go APESHIT on

something like this.

slammer111 06-04-2010 02:10 PM

Anyone actually tried using Wind in the DT core? I highly doubt that their coverage will be spotty. Tons of working-class people are going to be there.

While UBC and SFU are good places to get future customers but not current ones, let's face it. Students are brokeass and won't exactly be moneymakers. Every telecom company knows that. There's a reason it took so long even for Rogers/Fido to cover both campuses.

I'm trying to convince my frd to switch to WIND. Told her to wait a couple of weeks though for them to iron out the bugs. She lives in Vancouver and works DT. Fido's been harassing her like nuts to resign a 3yr contract. I said it earlier and I'll say it again.. that $35 plan totally kills City Fido.
