By leaving GOOG achieves ABSOLUTELY nothing.
The Chinese government doesnt give a fuck, the people are stuck with a crappy search engine that's still censored, and GOOG probably lost the fastest growing market in the next 10 years if they truly get out.
it's a lose lose move.

google is doing the right thing. | definitely not the right thing to its shareholders though, and the people who will no longer have access to a better search engine.
Don't get me wrong, I despite the Chinese gov;t for breaching human rights activitists' emails, but I don't think what GOOG proposed to do is the right thing.
By pulling out, they indirectly helped the censorship in China, and helped a VERY crappy search engine.

Google is a business, they're not there to preach what's right and wrong. They just pulled out of the biggest growing market. As a publicly traded company, shareholders will not be happy. If this was a matter of principal, they should also pull out of Australia when their internet censorship firewall comes online.

It's not like they were fighting a crusade against censorship or human rights in China. Also, who gives a shit about Baidu except the Chinese? 'don't be evil' has made them one of the most profitable and innovative companies ever.
being a business does not give you a blank check to be unethical in the pursuit of money.

Fuck China, as said above a lot of companies will start moving to India. China isn't the only major market left untapped.

my uncle runs a textile company in Shanghai. As the worker's wage kept on rising they are considering moving his factory to vietnam and india.
But once they ran a test factory there they soon exited india all together.
the worker's productivity and discipline just isnt the same.
In Shanghai say a worker could produce 10 T-shirts in 1 hour with a 10% defective rate.
In India a worker produces only 8 T-Shirts with a 20% defective rate (just for example)
after considering the cost and benefit they decided to stay in China and suck up the cost. Nevermind Africa.
There is a reason why most manufacturing are done in China, when there are plenty other countries that offer a much cheaper wage.

Yeah. Most workers have been manufacturing since infancy. Thats what a lack of labour law will do for a country. It'll produce the most effective drones a nickel a day can buy.

China's labour law is getting tougher by the day, alot of Taiwanese companies are moving out because the workers just keeep on demanding more and more, and the government is backing them too.
Keep in mind that it IS a communist lead country, which means labourers are above capitalists and monarchs. Child labour is ilegal and I don't think any big company would dare to use them in China.
