You don't think Chairman Mao ever commented on the emancipation of the afroamerican slaves?
Secondly, you realize that the biblically-influenced "definition" of slave went along the lines
of using "foreigners"? (Leviticus-advice for slave-masters/drivers) Posted via RS Mobile |

Anyhow, please understand that you're talking about a level of global mentality that was hundreds of years ago when we believed the sun rotated around the earth, witches ate children, and that dragons roamed the Earth. in a sense many of the citizens of china that live below the poverty line with no education do live in a backwards society similar to that of which you just described... you're holding a late industrializing 3rd world country that opened up its boarders to the world 20 years ago to the same standards as rich g8 fully developed democracies. less than half a century ago china was broke as fuck, facing civil war, civil unrest, political instability, famine...you name it. it doesn't care what the rest of the world thinks. fuck china? well now china is giving a bigger fuck you to the rest of the world... it wants a piece of the pie and has the means to acquire it
| is it really that unexpected that certain rs members dont conform to the "fuck china" posting trend?
please.... when have you ever seen posters on rs going around posting CHINA = #1 CHINA= PERFECT threads?
its always the know it all motherfuckers like skinnypup that like to spark the debate and chinese people backlashing. and when they put in their 2 cents they get labeled as brainwashed and victims of prc propaganda
news flash, chinese people especially the older generations know ALL ABOUT the failures of communism having lived through oppression and atrocities like the cultural revolution, you can bet they are MUCH better informed than the self-righteous critics lecturing everybody on the sidelines from halfway across the globe.
the overall living standard is being raised significantly year after year. The average citizen now suddenly has an internet connection, a tv, and is thinking about maybe buying a pair of nikes and sending his/her child to school. people are being fed on 3% fertile land and can drink clean water under a roof. They’re starting to have things, like useless shit they don't need beyond basic necessities...its starting to look like a prosperous country. That is the biggest human rights justification you can do for your people as a nation.
maybe one day china can be like the US and tell the rest of the world how they think others ought to run their country. like proposing greenhouse gas emission reductions while hypocritically failing to meet the requirements themselves. "hey china can you stop industrializing its hurting the environment! kthxbye... oh don't worry about us we'll keep consuming because we're on higher moral ground... we also want all your citizens to enjoy the same civil liberties we do but at the same time we still need your cheap labor and goods. lol if anything developed countries that need to feed its capitalistic demand WANT china to stay the way it is. and its doing everything it can to keep china down.
all that being said. does not = I support communism/propaganda/oppression and the likes. but people don't seem to realize that right now... china is not going to risk political instability that may hinder its economic gains with ideas like democracy. not yet.

Do you actually know anyone in that situation?
Are you not "halfway across the globe"? I'm not. I can observe the issues on a daily basis, not going by bullshit fluff articles that people link on Facebook.
Do you have relatives who were directly affected by what we're talking about there? I do. People who literally had to flee the country, and start a new life with less than nothing.
You should watch who you are calling "self righteous critics" because you are the only one who fits that description here, as a self-righteous critic of me.

i think this is an age old problem, it's rich people telling other people to mind their own business while they make their money.
i mean, look at all the rural chinese replying to this thread, they obviously enjoy one party government and censorship.
it amuses me to no end, that the people here from the mainland, tell everybody else that 'everythings fine, it just needs time' while they enjoy the rights and freedoms Canada has to offer them while their factories on the mainland fatten their wallets.

My grand-daddy fought the Communists. So I'm with the fuck China camp lol. Then last year I took a trip out to DG and SZ and I really did fuck China. Now, I kinda like China... So I'll say fuck Communism!

Case in point, this skinny guy comes into the gym the other day, must have only weighed ~ 140lbs, loads on 2 plates on the bench rack, mutters to himself, for sparta, unracks the barbell and proceeds to drop it directly on his chest.

I disagree. what do all modern day fully developed democracies all have in common? they are PROSPEROUS nations that are RICH with high gdp PER CAPITA. western political ideology is not the sole solution to all the worlds political injustices. look at many middle eastern countries that lie in RUINS and at the mercy of US foreign policy. hegemonic imperialism at its finest. oh... but they now run under corrupt/rigged democracies with unregulated brutal power struggles amongst opposing parties.
your second point about rich mainlanders... you know not everyone acquires there riches unjustly many do it through HARD WORK.. i mean you kind of have to when you're competing with 1/3 of the worlds population and everywhere you look all you see is people not having enough.
human greed does not discriminate. no matter where you look in the world.
regarding skinnypup's post. yes yes and yes. I have spent considerable time living day to day life in china. NOT in the fake pretentious urban cities.
I do have MANY relatives that can be classified as victims directly due to china's gov't oppression but I am biased in the sense that my parents were more fortunate. my father already having relatives in canada, his great grandfather being apart of the 1st generation chinese in canada that help build the railroads and my mom smart/hard working enough to be released from china on scholarship overseas study (late 1970s so you can imagine how rare that is)
I don't actually have any problem with you at all you were just an easy example to name drop

Then what's your excuse for being so ignorant?
Wait, why are you even bringing my name up? You do this over and over throughout the forum. In terms of this particular thread though, why? Are you making a counterpoint? Do you even know what you are arguing about? Because I sure don't. I never said things like rural mainland chinese would be "better off" if ruled by a democracy.
The only point I ever made here (and as I said before, with admittedly much facetiousness), is that China's importance/relevance/"power"/whatever is totally overstated by almost everyone.
But for some reason you keep trying to argue with me. Have I pwn3d you one too many times? I wouldn't know, I don't take name.

you are wrong.
your fail logic, along the lines of every communist and dictator has always been.
'the people are too stupid and primitive to govern themselves, therefor we, the elite, shall govern for you'
a select few people making lots of money and enjoying a less restrictive lifestyle does not mean you are 'progressing towards democracy' it means you are 'progressing towards an oligarchy'
p.s get bent and read a book.

damn, I think you have read too much books. Take a trip to RURAL China, not the developed cities of China, then you will know what primitive really means. Giving them democracy will be disastrous. Havent we seen it in Africa already? when are we gonna learn a lesson from history?
democracy does not always work, my friend.
