3 reasons.

1. Location,
2. Location, and
3. Location.

Okay, in all seriousness, there are several reasons, related to what I just stated.

1. The movie theatre at the time (90s) was pretty good, but everyone now goes to Silver City Metropolis instead. Cineplex is basically cannibalizing their older theatre.
2. It's quite difficult to get between Metrotown and Station Square. By that I mean you have to cross that long walkway, and part of it is outdoors too if I remember correctly. If I'm in Metropolis already and I don't want to freeze, SS is automatically not an option.
3. Parking sucks there compared to the rest of the mall.

With that said, there's a really awesome Cougar-type pub next to the theatre (adjacent to the "back door exit" that nobody seems to know about. My buddies and I go there for pitchers all the time. Service is ALWAYS quick as the place is a bit empty. :D

I think swatch is undergoing renos. Its all boarded up with signs that says its under going renos.

To me, metropolis is still pretty new. The pre-metropolis is where its old school. Metrotown and Eaton Center.

ICBC has been in the same spot for ever as well.

they had that place too at RC nxt to the bay. Back in the days, you would be so hardcore if you went to the "adult" aisle to look at the posters and toys (elementary days)

Wasn't planet superstar there after playdium?

There used to be a planet lazer in Metrotown?

I miss Playdium. There's no other arcade that has something similar to their All you can Play, is there?

Harvey Specter 03-18-2010 12:43 AM

On the topic of malls...does anyone remember Champlain Mall (Killarney area) during the Bay days?

TheKingdom2000 03-18-2010 12:53 AM

Playdium would have stayed but Winners offered metro more money as playdiums lease was up. They gave playdium the option to match the offer but playdium declined..
My sisters bf used to be the manager there.

And Rainforest Cafe, are you guys kidding.. the food there sucked balls. the only thing that was awesome was the atmosphere.. if the food wasn't so shit it would have survived...

Mancini 03-18-2010 08:07 AM

Do you remember when Metrotown was called Eaton's Centre and had a Woodwards?

Metrotown management was smart to move the food court. It dispersed shoppers around the mall more, rather than keep them centralized around the old food area.
