The money IS spent by the RCMP. They are the one who contracted the security companies who, in turn, contracted us. As well, for every 2-3 portals there will be a bilingual police officer in case any problems may arise.
Just a note to k-dub, not that I care, but I saw co-workers get in trouble because they were taking pictures while we were inside any venues, so just wanted to give you a heads up so you don't get in trouble. Their really strict about the whole security protocols xD.

I know someone who rented their whistler cabin to the RCMP for the month for $40,000.
now you know why it's costing so much... they are probably wasting money everywhere.

I'll find out though I guess...

The light blue ones look a lot better than the full black uniform we got from CSC.

"This is exactly the same process as in Torino, in Salt Lake, in Beijing," Damnavits said. "We're alerting the public they will have to do this so it's not a surprise when they arrive."
| at venues like GM place or the opening ceremonies there are going to be something like 16 portals open at a time. The portals are also on the fringe of the venue, not at the front doors. you can come early, get through, and hangout inside the secure area. I am assuming that having people wait in the secure area is how they are going to deal with the turnover during hockey games and such.
I personally think the money is well spent. The Integrated security unit really cant win here with the haters though. if nothing happens, then it was a waste of money. if something does happen, they didnt do a good enough job with the huge budget. lose lose.

That's easily 3.5hrs if you're lucky, and now Vanoc wants to add another 2 hours to it. | 3.5 hours??
I was at the Hawks game recently..game started at 7..I think i was out by like 9:45 even after watchin the 3 stars...I dont think I've ever sat in a hockey game that lasted 3 hours from the initial puck drop..cept that massive 7 period OT game in the playoffs

Friend whos gonna be doing food and beverage related work up in Whistler was telling me how fucking stupid the restrictions are. Not allowed to use a cell phone that isn't manufactured by an Olympic sponsor, can't drink water out of a non Coke (Dasani) bottle, not allowed pictures of anything, can't use Facebook or other sites, and basically can't use, or be seen with ANYTHING that isn't Olympic merchandise, or manufactured by a company thats sponsoring.

Weeks ago they made a big deal about how we needed to buy bus tickets RIGHT AWAY in order to reach venues. They even offered a discount to those who bought tickets early.
So I listened. And I did.
Event starts at 7pm. So I figured i'd buy bus tickets to get me there around 6pm. I figured that would be enough. I thought I was smart buying them so early, so I'd have first choice at the available bus departures.
NOW they are saying "security this security that blah blah" and they want me at the venue THREE HOURS before.
WHHHHHY didn't you tell me that before I bought my bus tickets. Morons. Now I'm concerned I might not make it to my seats in time.
Bunch of monkeys running the show. All of them.

Olympic security is a fancy name for security guards, aka, mall cops, aka rent-a-cops.
and I don't mean the young ones who look for trouble.
they should just be renamed crowd control cause that's what they are.
