I used to sell a bunch of stuff on craigslist all the time never encountered this problem maybe because all the people I see look legit . I don't even bother checking the bills. Never had any problems feel bad for OP.
Anyhow for the post regarding meeting at the person's house, I would never let anyone meet at my house unless I'm super lazy or the item is too big to move on my part. It doesn't feel safe letting some stranger buyer knowing where I live. Never know you could be selling an iPhone 4GS nowadays at your house and if he thinks you have more in the house and tell his gangsta wannabe friends... yea ....

And I think, sadly, natives take the worst of it.
I hadn't had a lot, or any really experience with natives before moving to BC. Well, I grew up in an area whiter than Tide, so really I didn't have experience with anyone that wasn't crispy white.
Anyway, I had hired a guy this summer that was native and I didn't know until my girlfriend mentioned it. With me, it made absolutely no difference, so I wasn't even really going to notice anyway.
Super nice guy, normal, great worker. I can name a few more people that fall in the same category. My girlfriend worked with a lot of natives in her line of work, and has 100's of great, normal, constructive work and personal relationships with native people.
Unfortunately, you see that one stereotype and people are happy and content to use the word "ALL".
Yes, the native community struggles with a lot of demons. I don't want to go anywhere near historic issues. We are all aware of what happened, there is only so much that can be done about it, and its time to move on.
Holding a group of people back by using the word "all" is worse than what happened to begin with, because its done today when we are supposed to be enlightened.

I love RS, every discussion becomes a race war, and on that note.
when selling something, keep these footnotes on hand.
white people = will haggle based on quality of product
asian people = will always lowball you, but if they do that means they want it, just stand firm on the price and they will eventually pay it, cant blame them for looking for a deal.
brown people = will always lowball you AFTER they have already agree'd on the initial price/deal, and standing right at your door, trying to get every last dollar out of you, these are tricky because they will not buy the product if they dont feel they are getting a stellar deal, their blood tells them to wait for a better deal
Natives = just try and rob you
blacks = hit or miss, some are really genuine, some try and rob you

regarding last min low balls...i only accept offers before meet-up.
that's why i feel buyer should come to seller...that way if they lowball you just refuse to sell so you don't waste much effort/time and they'll just cave for the original agreed upon price.
also agreed never meet at your own house as a seller unless it's a large furniture/heavy ass item.
For those that don't meet at your own house to sell like used electronics...do you bring like a power adapter for your car if buyer wants to test it out? lol

i personally dont understand how you couldnt tell the difference, i ve seen counterfiets and the silver bar just dont cut it. it looks like a sticker sticked on to it.
do you have pictures of it?
because most of the time thats all i look at and you could tell right away on the spot.
