Good, time to stop mindless consumerism. Oh noes, can't spend tons of cash on useless shit anymore! Now I can finally pay off my house and feed my children properly.

I wasn't talking about Wal-Mart, I was talking about its suppliers such as cutlery/tires/clothes/toys/hardware etc which moved, will cause some chaos as the majority of inventory in Wal-mart is made in china.

and as for China blocking all trade and self-sustain.... how will they show face/status when they can't import a mercedes-benz/lv/cartier/etc la?

You also have land costs, building costs, environmental laws and the fact everything is geared toward building TV's in China.

Which are factors in any other country. Factories are easily configurable to produce anything, they also already have huge agriculture, textiles and automotive industries as well. Everything America had at one point in time. China can easily cope without the rest of the world if everyone pulled out or if China decides to shut everyone out.

If you are talking about Sony LCD TV, they are ASSEMBLED in Mexico by Honhai, a Taiwanese company. The components break down to three major suppliers..

the LCD panel itself is made by Chimei of Taiwan, the engine and chip is made by Sony in Japan, and the plastic and metal casing is made by Foxxcon (a Subsidiary of Honhai) in China. The Mexicans just assemble it, and the reason why its cheaper to make these in Mexico is because with the NAFTA free Trade agreement there no duty to import from Mexico but there is duty to import from China, thus it makes financial sense to produce in Mexico.

No no, they do... What I'm saying is that if it came down to it, they don't have to.
