marco's right, negotiations is a game. They're just playing it. Their job is to rip you off and yours needs to be to rip them off (and meet in the middle).

I remember I used to get mad at car salesmen - then I took some negotiations training @ work and it all made sense after that.

its been a while since i updated this thread, but there is very good reason as to why.

right after telling me that my Christina was only valued at $6000, i asked the adjuster how he came up to that conclusion. he told me he based the cars value on age, milage, and current value of local listed cars. i then faxed him over 25 pages of all my maintenance (everything from day one of the cars life, and including all the maintenance i did after attaining Christina). in the fax was also all receipts, and including my original bill of sale. i sent a 2nd copy via email.

a few days pass by, and i decide to call my adjuster and left him a voice mail to see if he got my papers and if i can come in person to go over how the value of my car was processed.

April 24th, i finally get a phone call back with an updated amount of $9600. he said that after reviewing the papers i sent, they value my car as well maintained, and thus made for the adjustment. the adjuster kept asking me to go check out the cars, specifically bluestar motors. i then faxed over the research i attained to replace that 1 wheel, 1 suspension, jdm visors, and jdm side marker.

a few days later i called again and left another voice mail to see if he got my papers. got voice mail again.

I did as he asked, i went to bluestar motors, called metrolexusvictoria, and even went to see luxor motors. I will say that bluestar motors is very straight up and honest when i got there. and gave me the oppurtunity to do a ICBC vehicle damage inquiry on it. Metrolexusvictoria was equally nice to chat with on the phone, and was straight up saying there was a glass claim on it. Luxor motors, well u can do the google search on them.

I called again yesterday, friday, and left another voicemail explaining the findings i found.

today i call and just happen to get a hold of him. i told him of my findings, if he got my faxes. He chuckled saying "ohh which ones, the first, 2nd, or 3rd fax?" like seriously. im spending the time, and money to have the car towed to and from icbc, and the icbc damage inquiry's $15 bucks a pop, all to get this attitude like im some chump? Then he gives me more excuses saying my car was from the states, old, old cars all have claims on them. Guess what, MY CHRISTINA DIDNT HAVE 1 SINGLE CLAIM ON HER! clean title, full documentation.

Ive been nice and firm to them, but this attitude and dicking around has really started to piss me off. Ive been seeing chiro and physio daily, ive had to take time off, and switch shifts with a coworker so i can go to chiro and physio without taking any more time off. and im doing all this research, paying all these stupid fees, all the leg work for ICBC. Why is he so afraid to see me in person, seriously, am i that intimidating!?!

So what now? ive called and left a voicemail with his manager MD. i will call again on monday and hopefully be able to set up and appointment to go see him. All i ask is to have the adjuster do his job at researching, get me in another GS of same caliber, and to go over how they attained the value of my car. its not asking for much, im just asking for an explanation.

They low balled me too a while back dude.

Just keep playing hard and see where that takes you. If you don't let the case go I don't think they can close the case.

Congrats on getting at least 9600 though : )

!SG 05-01-2010 09:20 AM

that amount cant even get me into another 99 GS, id have to get a 98, and take one that is salvaged

thats the thing, im being very fair in my asking price from looking around at other gs's around town, and in seattle. and that is the amount im asking for.

sigh, dealing with icbc is making my back tense up.

I feel for you, I really do. Nothing is worse than paying ICBC all this money over the years for insurance, only for them to kick you when you're down. It's just not fair. Especially in your case. It's also not fair that in order to try and get more money from ICBC, that we have to run around and do all the hard research for them. It's just not right that people have to shoulder this kind of stress and worry, when we should really just be worrying about get better from the injuries. Good luck, and stay strong!

Keep on doing what your doing. Someone needs to press back.

Phil@rise 05-01-2010 11:46 AM

shitty deal! Why are you still working tho? You should be taking med leave and ICBC can cover your lost wages med expenses, everything. Thats how you stick it to them the fuckers cant appreciate the fact that you aren't sticking them with that and then they give you grief over your cars value. You didn't ask to get hit.

chun 05-01-2010 11:54 AM

I didn't read the entire thread but get a lawyer.

You vs ICBC = losing battle.

twitchyzero 05-01-2010 01:03 PM

sounds like your car was a US import? i'm surprised they would factor in similar GS from US into their research

gabbergabber 05-01-2010 01:22 PM

Sorry to hear, hope all is well to you!

hk20000 05-01-2010 01:34 PM

If that's US import then 9600 is quite a lot actually. Look at how much it is in the States for a 96-99GS

If it's from US then they have every right to pay you what the car is worth down south. I'm pretty sure it's a policy that they are not going to pay out for importation costs because you decided to do that knowing thoroughly how dinged you will be at resale hence insurance coverage. Like they only pay out a portion for Japanese imports now too because they decided that the vehicle is actually worth a lot less than what most people are asking for those cars.... I wouldn't be surprised if they'd put the same line of reason to your car simply because it's a US import.

!SG 05-01-2010 03:01 PM

my car is a us import. zero claims and damages, fully serviced by rancho lexus of las vegas up to the day i purchased. fully maintained at advance motorsports by me and under watchful eye of ken. audio and electronics done by soundsgood auto and soundworks. there is a reason why it took me 6 months to buy a gs, i spent the time to filter and research ones available, and settled on this one as it had the best track record.

1st generation GS started 94-97, 2nd generation started 98-05 so thats probably why ur search was giving u such bogus prices.
the ones you found, i found already, and have run carfax on the cars (as carproof costs 65 bucks a pop). one has a rebuilt title right there, while others have claimed accidents on.

unfortunately icbc doesnt cover the cost of importing. however its their job to view year make model condition and milage of the car, base their amount on that. the adjuster even said my car was very well maintained, yet gave me a quote that would not be able to get me into an equal GS locally.

read up on icbc policy. the pay out is based on what it would cost you to replace the vehicle by an equal in the market. icbc cannot account for ppl with good vehicle bargaining skills as also to idiots tha grossly overpay for a vehicle. even with that said, always do ur research. if the car is dirt cheap in the states, there is a reason, either major accident, or rebuilt salvage. my christina was neither.

i have lawyers handling the personal injury side.

however the cost of replacement of vehicle has to be done thru myself.
