blame the people who decide on the law, not the rcmp; they just enforce what they are told to enforce.

If you soupe your car up to that extent, you're gonna get a lot of compliments and spotted threads (lol) but u gotta be prepared for this kinda crap unfortunately once in a while!

Expresso 04-01-2010 10:37 AM

End of the month, they are out full force.

There is very little you can do if a cop pulls your car off the road even for no reason. Is it worth suing the crown? Unfair for sure but not likely to trigger any serious repercussions unless it was being done on a large scale.

I remember hearing about people being ticketed for blue headlights back in 2000/2001 on their stock S2000's.

And in 2004, stock STi's were being VI'd for "aftermarket" STi exhausts.

hahaha hopefully last too!

freakshow 04-01-2010 02:38 PM

Is the body of your car lower than the lowest point of the rim?

optiblue 04-01-2010 04:44 PM

Dang... sorry to hear this :( I hope I don't get vi'd!!

Why is Richmond RCMP doing this?

I think I have heard that since there were multiple road-race related accidents back a few years ago that it has became a "political" issue.

Local MPs are turning down all sorts of illegal driving/street racing/aggressive driving behaviour/tinted windows/performance related mods, etc.

And richmond RCMP is just following their guidelines?

I don't know. It feels shitty for me.

kroy546 04-01-2010 05:27 PM

ive got VI twice in 2 years

first time, it was a box 1 for not having a USDM spec front re-bar

second time, it was a box 2 for having a widen exhaust, no air bag, unauthorized HID

fixed everything, drive slowly with responsibility

I mean, the cops weren't picking on you or anything, they are just doing their job. if i am a cop without any responsibility, i would just let u go not even waste my time writing the ticket calling the tow truck company right...

you should read the guidelines or laws, see how much clearance you should have for your vehicle, have your vehicle inspected after fixing anything, and most importantly, (i know you will lower your car again), just lower the car or mod your car to an extent that they wouldn't give you an instant box 1..thats my experience

Amuse 04-01-2010 08:31 PM

So how do you correctly measure whether your car is too low so a cop can't do anything if you can prove it on the spot?

underscore 04-01-2010 08:34 PM

off the top of my head the headlights must be above a certain minimum height, the tires cannot rub at full lock, and the lowest part of your bodywork must be higher than the lowest part of your rims.

some_punk 04-01-2010 08:40 PM

I have that information carried in my car at all times with a tape measure.

Guess it's time to rock this look for a while, and raise it an inch to pass VI

I respect what the rcmp/vpd have to do on a daily bases because there job is far from easy!

but yes im with you on that, seems like its becoming more of a cash grab!

Totally agree with you. I HATE people with loud exhaust. Imagine some fuxkers who drove around in your neighborhood with a loud exhaust in the middle of the night... fxck.

If you do legal mods, cops will let you go.

spoon.ek9 04-01-2010 09:12 PM

i can't remember the source, but i was told 55cm from the middle of headlight to pavement. don't quote me on that though.

That pic is still VI material imagine you have a tire blow out you will immediately become stranded. Your lips and skirt will keep the wheels from reaching the ground.

Get some huge rims with low profile tires or lift the car back up.

Thanks I will look into it.

Guess I'll try to borrow some 17s off my friend.

And lift up the suspension by an inch.

see that's the part of the law that I find funny, it seems highly unlikely that the fiberglass lip and sideskirts would hold up the weight of the car should a tire blow and come off the rim doesn't it? but I guess saying that is a lot easier than figuring out what is metal and what isn't, and where the lowest point is (my frame comes a lot lower than my bodywork in places though, it's all kind of a weird system).

like you said it's difficult to judge whether or not the body panels will hold the car up so the law is written to make it easier to execute in real life.

it's all for the name of safety anyway.

And I'm now sitting at a bus stop waiting to get picked up =.=

they aways tell u to go to specific place to VI....but by LAW, u can go to ANY designated facility for VI cuz they are all under the same qualifications,
u DO NOT HAVE TO GO TO HONDA DEALERS !!
and they cannot force u to go because that's favorings the shop, and u can sue the cop for that....and i don't think they want to be investigated for taking a cut for VI's....like how they do under table cash deals with tow truck drivers....thats why they use rusty all the time.......i learn that in LAW class :)

Thanks for the heads-up. Really sorry to hear this... cops have been REALLY anal in Richmond for the past few weeks.
A cop pulled me over while driving the g/f's car in Richmond. They checked for front window tint, DRL, exhaust, and other stuff. I got off with warnings as the DRLs are hooked up to the parking light (won't come on until the handbrake is released), exhaust tip too big (4") and excessive noise from the exhaust.

few weeks ??......rmd rcmp are always picking on little things ever since the very beginning, when that other cop died while dealing with street racers....it's no news

Brad Fuel 04-02-2010 02:24 AM

So to everyone that has gotten off with verbal warnings..... did you go and fix your illegal mods on your own good will?

I didn't think so.

Used to run a tilted plate, got a warning ticket

http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/2756/img1209z.jpg

So I changed it up a bit so it wouldn't be so much of a hassle, it's a temporary solution till I find proper plate mounts

!Tigger 04-02-2010 08:36 AM

damn that sucks man.i think the police forum had some good info about VI's...

TOPEC 04-02-2010 08:49 AM

zip ties dont work too, i got hasseled by a cop about it some time ago, and u guessed it, it was in richmond.
