There's proper plate mounts right there! Right above where you ran it tilted. Just pull those plugs out. Or go to the hardware store and get some 90 degree brackets, just small ones, and then use those to mount the plate to the bumper wherever you like.

Guess it's time to rock this look for a while, and raise it an inch to pass VI

Your car looks pretty low from what I can see in the picture and I'm not too sure if an inch raise would suffice. The minimum clearance is 57cm from the ground to the mid-point of your headlights, you should consider and measure accordingly while raising your car. Good luck on the V.I.

racerman88 04-02-2010 02:42 PM

that sucks really bad

PiuYi 04-02-2010 03:56 PM

do you get points for VI's?

Well the plugs are glued on so no chance of prying them out:(

L brackets? I don't like the sound of drilling into an 800 dollar OEM bumper LOL

If I could find another Y bracket off a civic, then I can mount it in the middle again.

Nope, depending on cop, if you're car appears to be unsafe, it gets towed on the spot.

underscore 04-02-2010 04:14 PM

what's back behind all those openings? surely there's something you can mount something to.

joeli27 04-02-2010 09:32 PM

i got 3 vi tickets within one yr in richmond. they wrote me a ticket that said i have to go take it to the ok tires on minoru for inspection. after talking to my friend who is a lawyer, he said i don't have to go to the shop the cops told you to go to for inspection. they have no rights to tell you where to go. they do that cause they just wanna be an ass cause they are usually more strict.

joeli27 04-02-2010 09:36 PM

go to the shop behind yohan center.

joeli27 04-02-2010 09:49 PM

fu*king all richmond rcmp are dicks. all they know is how to teaser ppl

Your headlights also cannot be below or above a certain height... don't know what that is off the top of my head, but you should be able to find it in the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations.

------------------------------------------------------
The MVA states:

(2) The headlamps must be mounted at a height of not less than 56 cm and not more than 1.37 m.

Motor Vehicle Act Regulations

Sucks that you got VI'd.

Have seen an increase in Richmond RCMP stopping cars though... kind of makes me think twice when i try to make the light.

I don't think TypeRNammer's headlight is anywhere nearly as low as 56cm.... that's not the point in his case.

spoon.ek9 04-03-2010 09:38 AM

is there any other criteria that might warrant a VI other than:

headlights between 56cm - 137cm in height from pavement
tires not rubbing at lock to lock
HID
Exhaust
lowest part of body work not lower than lowest part of rim (does this include mudflaps?)

we should have a sticky on this..

underscore 04-03-2010 09:45 AM

^ cracked windshield over a certain length, etc. isn't there an MVA section for a VI?

looking at the VI TypeRNammer posted up you've got:

Driver/Documents
Brakes
Coupling Devices
Exhaust
Body/Frame
Fuel System
Lights
Load Security
Steering
Suspension
Tires
Wheels/Rims
Wipers
Other

adambomb 04-03-2010 12:25 PM

Hahaha!! Only in Richmond.

No seriously...its true. I know people who are VPD, Surrey and Langley RCMP.
Other detachments don't care about VI's. Just don't drive like a dick.

hey don't forget about the Lexus IS's aka (Altezza) that came OEM with those clear style tail lights back in the day and people were getting tickets for it, guess where RICHMOND! obviously by severely uninformed traffic cops. Richmond has always had this reputation, and I don't think that will change.

Nam, I'm with ya man we both in the same boat, in my other thread in the police forum I'm trying to gather as much info as possible myself....

alot of the richmond shops onwere who do VI hate the rmd rcmp cause they hate inspecting cars. they also said they just pull you over and give you a VI notice when they feel like it. they should go take a course and learn the basic about cars before they start pulling ppl over and give stupid tickets
