Dig through mountain of applications, call for interview, small logic test, panel interview, drug test. That's basically it.

It gets you fit, but you need to be able to walk. A lot. Some upper body strength. Nothing too extreme. You get fit by nature of the job while doing your training.

How are the raises like? How many years would it take to get there?

XLNS 10-20-2010 08:42 PM

Seniority is based on when you apply online so apply as soon as you can! New post for 25 positions in Vancouver as of Oct 19.

No raises. It's all set rates. All you get are whats worked out as raises based on the collective agreement.

No, not in Vancouver. Why would you need their office location?

skyxx 10-25-2010 11:19 PM

6o4allmotor 11-06-2010 10:01 PM

The training was good, just needed more time in the field with hands on, starting training shifts on wed.

Also for anyone else thier looking for a 6th class with a start date of dec 6

TekDragon 11-07-2010 02:23 AM

Holy fuck, more of you kids hitting the ground. Maybe I'll be training some of you out there.

d1 11-09-2010 07:40 PM

They actually had an orientation session today. I received an invite but after some thought decided not to go (for now).

From what I know there's another training session in late december after the one on the 6th and another orientation session in January for those that are interested.

Just a couple of questions about the orientation/training session.

When and where is the orientation session/ training session? How do you get invited and do u have to be invited to attend those sessions?

How come u decided not to go?

d1 11-10-2010 02:54 PM

They didn't tell me exactly when the next orientation is, just that it'd be in January. The location for the one yesterday was Compass Point Inn in Surrey. Apply on their website and you should get an invite.

I'm still still in school right now and this is completely unrelated to what I'm doing so I decided to hold off for now. Another major downer is the 24/7 on call - you never really know when you're going to work so your schedule's gonna be all over the place.

So, how is your job like? Are you constantly on the yard doing the same repetitive task for 8 hrs per day? or you do a bit of everything, paperwork, etc.

paperwork is near zero. In the yard typically for 8+ hours a day. I can't tell you that I've had the same day twice since I've started. End up doing a beltpack shift one day, full crew the next, transfer from Lynn Creek to Thorton yard the day after. You get the idea. Lots of different things, lots of industries to learn.

To put it simply, we move box cars.
