It is not. Go see the lot for yourself. It's completely paved. If they point us at the gravel lot for public auction then no of course that's no good.

But the lot where they usually do storage is completely paved with AAA grade tarmac. I know I've been there and I bought a car off a dealer, which happened to have the car already delivered to Adesa dealer auction lot. I get to drive it out of there and it's HUUUUUUGE and paved.

Perhaps kill the prize for group with the most cars.

Perhaps if you paid more attention you would realize that barely any cars in the two groups you mentioned were "stock".

This is another pet peeve, when people just dismiss a group of cars just because they have some weird personal insecurity and has to hate on something to make themselves feel better. Some sort of elitist culture.

If you don't want to take the time to see what mods are there, then it's your loss. Everyone has their own budget and timeline for doing stuff to their cars. Just because someone can afford a custom turbo kit, should we start knocking people who buy bolt-on turbo kits?

It's funny seeing people oooh and ahhing over a 350Z with a CAI and some shiny wheels....when those same people walk by a "one-of-a-kind in the lower mainland" custom tuned and turbo Mazda3 and say "pffft...just a Mazda3".

As for "stock" cars coming, what better time to come than the Revscene meet to get ideas and info on what to do to personalize a ride?!?

Also, I actually prefer seeing and talking to people who get their hands dirty and install their own simple mods like CAI, exhausts, etc.......rather than some guy who's paying a shop to do all the work and then coming to a meet to show off and yet won't have a clue how to fix anything.

I really need to get my Prelude painted THIS MONTH! I know its a bit of a hit and miss when it comes to paint but theres gotta be someone out there that has a really good rep. Someone help pretty please :(

Looks like I missed the two hot blondes in the white civic but I snapped a photo of their car when it was parked. The car is pretty nice I'd say.

Last tme I was there, which was like 7-8 months ago, the huge lot that holds all the cars for the dealer auction is gravel. I've seen the lot..... unless the sections I have been to aren't the paved ones :S

It was just a comment, the fact you respond with a rant about "elitist culture" shows your insecurity, not mine.

I've gone to big meets like this in Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, and NY. The Mazda and Civic groups are always the same - lots of cars, few mods. It gets boring, and that showed with the lack of people walking around that area.

I had a budget and timeline for my car too. I didn't park it in shows/meets until I had enough done on it to be worthwhile.

I agree, that is funny. Those same people were probably wearing Ed Hardy shirts with frohawks and have never turned a wrench in their life. They suck.

How will they get ideas when some of the more modified cars are parked out on the street? Why not park on the street and leave room for other cars?

I've done most of the work on my car too so I appreciate where you're coming from. Yet I'm pretty sure my bike has more mods on it than many of the Mazda 3s.

tofu1413 08-30-2010 01:28 PM

^ i bet your bike has more mods than my ITR..

My point is, the main objective of these meets is to get a bunch of people out to support the car scene, rep their crews, and get people to mingle with those they normally wouldn't. Plus, a lot of us saw cars we wouldn't see on the streets (or at dealerships either.) Turning people away, because their car is "stock" would result in a lot less numbers-and Revscene isn't an elitist community-it's for everyone

Fair enough

My post wasn't meant to tell people not to come, it was more like "park on the street being and walk in". I talked to a few people who left their cars at home cause they weren't ready or in great shape (myself included, my car needs some TLC) only to see a few beat up cars and lots of mostly stock cars there.

Besides, it was just a suggestion, people need to take a chill pill and not get so offended.

Jgresch 08-30-2010 01:34 PM

Come on guys, it's encouraged for everybody to make it, whether you're stock or not.... Its a group of people who have a comon interest. It was just unexpected that so many people would show up...

Chooman 08-30-2010 01:39 PM

Whelp. Guess it's my turn to chime in. If you don't know who i am i'm one of the idiots who has spent the past 10 years helping to build Revscene into what you see today, the other idiots being of course SG and Jace. We all have our own career paths we've taken and watched as a whole new generation of RS folk arrive.

Now enough with that crap, onto the meet.

It was great to see the tuner scene in Vancouver still holding strong even with 2 years of no big events like DTP. RS has 2 meets a year, one in the spring and our typically large Summer meet. The spring meet to get everybody in the mood again and the Summer meet to showoff what you've done since. We hold these events to just get everybody together with people who have similar interests. We do not ask for anything from you guys other than just to show up and have a great time.

Remember that all RS events will ALWAYS remain FREE. No admission prices, no registration fees, no frills or gimmicks. It's the formula we've always kept and is the reason why every summer people come out because, lets face it, there really aren't too many free events in this city.

In regards to the "suggestions" that we get a bigger lot next year, I think i can say that if you've noticed that, you better believe we noticed it too. This was not our first choice in parking lots to get but unfortunately our first choice required us to be out by noon. Since that didn't seem like an options we went with the good folks at the night market. We will work on securing a bigger lot next year and hopefully we won't have to turn away people like yesterday. Unfortunately we are in a growing city and finding parking lots that can hold 750+ cars is harder and harder to find and costs more and more every year. We could move it out to the burbs but i know the majority of you guys wouldn't want to cross a bridge to attend a meet. We do what we can with the options that are put in front of us but sometimes there's going to be problems here and there. If any of you were around for the VERY first RS meet at Ideal will know that RS meets have come a long ass way and that we've adapted a lot since then. . We learn and move on.

The other thing is that we all have jobs outside of Revscene. Nobody is here full time nor is anybody on salary(). RS has always depended on volunteers to help make events like yesterdays a huge success but remember that they are just that, volunteers and have no experience coordinating traffic or policing a parking lot. A lot of thanks needs to go to these volunteers because this meet would not happen if it wasn't for them. SG, Jace and I are good but we cannot look after all the things that need to be done with an event like this. So i will say, Thank You Very Much to the Volunteers who helped make yesterdays event a success.

So anyways, now that i've reached my word quota for the year, i'm gonna shut up now and go relax.

See you guys next year:D

Jgresch 08-30-2010 01:42 PM

I dunno about everyone else, and I have no idea how much it costs to rent a lot, but if it helps to get a larger lot for next year, I'd be fine with giving up a buck or two upon entry. With 700 cars that seems like a good little boost to help out with costs.

hk20000 08-30-2010 03:47 PM

I'll go scoop out how the classic hot rod show and shine looks like on the 18th and report back with pics and footage hopefully.

Coz that piece of tarmac is just plain gold.

saucywoman 08-30-2010 03:49 PM

If people want to whine and complain about not enough spaces, perhaps they should be willing to donate money to help SG out with the costs. I had my doubts about the parking lot, but it was a fantastic meet and I enjoyed myself immensely (minus the idiots). I also donated as much as I could ($5 I know its not a lot, but I only ate one hotdog :))

Either way, THANK YOU to all the mods, volunteers and admins who made the meet happen. you guys rock!

I only brought $5 cash :( 3 went to sticker, 2 went to donation. But I think a very very small admission fee wouldn't do any harm... like a dollar or two to enter or w.e....
