why dont you just get out of the way if its 2 lanes? problem solved. let the tailgaters get their karma somewhere else. would you really want the hassle of getting you car fixed in case an accident happen?
if its one lanes, drive 5km above speed limit. they cant complain after that, youre already speeding as it is.
And now some states are cracking down on left-lane campers, both to keep traffic moving and to tamp down the road rage that goes from zero-to-60 faster than ever before.
The idea to slow down is so that you allow more time to react to sudden changes in front of you, so the tailgater doesn't rear end you.
Ok this is the scenario im seeing. Your going exactly 50km/hr and theres no one infront of you, and the car behind you wants to get by. So slowing down to 40-30km/hr allows you more time to react to a sudden change in front of you? I thought the reason why they have maximum speed limits like the 50km/hr cause thats the speed they decided gives everyone ample time to react to that sudden change..... And i think a tailgater will just even ride your ass more if you decide to slow down, especially hitting the brakes.
I just dont see any positives in going slower. Its not like the tailgater is gonna give you the thankyou wave after a couple blocks.... Move over to the the right lane, Carry on the with speed limit, Pull Over but Slowing Down makes zero sense to me
And im not saying Tailgaters are not in the wrong here, but i believe theres better ways of handling it
Just FYI: This is directly from the ICBC Handbook:

chapter 7 — personal strategies
111 Strategies: handling other drivers’ aggression
When other drivers start acting aggressively behind
the wheel:
• Respond with good driving manners. Give the other
driver plenty of room and the right-of-way.
• Don’t return aggression. Avoid eye contact, keep away
from erratic drivers and don’t gesture back.
If you’re in a situation where you feel threatened:
• Get help. Drive to a police station or to a location
where there are plenty of people (for example, a
shopping mall).
• Call the police if you have a cellphone. (If you’re
travelling with someone else, get this person to make
the call so you can focus on driving.)
• Don’t go home.
• Keep the doors locked and the windows closed.
• Sound the horn or attract attention to yourself if
someone tries to get into your car.
Preventing aggression
How can you make sure you don’t increase the anger or
frustration of other drivers? If you use your smart driving skills,
allow plenty of space and give others the right-of-way, you can
help prevent situations that cause aggression.
If some asshole is pressuring you or tailgating you, etc etc, LET HIM GO.
jeeez how many times does this topic have to get covered ????
there is 2 fucking choices.
1. BE AN ASSHOLE
-install HID on the back of your car and blind the shit outta tailgater
-tap on your brakes and scare the tailgater/ or make him rear end you.
2. DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE
-keep driving normally and avoid eye contact when/if he passes you

You slow down when your being tailgated in traffic so you have more time to react in front of you and the tailgater will have to slow down so if something happens he doesnt rear end you.

This thread does not deliver.
Honestly, everyone tailgates at some point in their life. I do it. You do it. There's really no right or wrong way to solve tailgating. It's a force of habit. We want to get someone quicker, we get impatient, or its an emergency, grandpa or grandma is behind the wheel, a disabled/handicapped driver is in front of you etc. There are countless reasons why we tailgate.
Simply move aside and let him/her pass. Karma will get the best of us. You never know.
There was one time when I was being tailgated on oak street on the left lane, and I'm already speeding. It was an Acura TL or RL whatever it was, and he was on my ass like no tmr. He ended up zipping through and cutting off other cars and we were both stopped at the traffic light.
Next thing you know, it's green light and he books his ass.
I didn't even wanna try to keep up. At least 90+ clicks.
2 blocks down the road, he gets pulled over by the popo. GG.

I think every1 knows that when ur being tailgated in traffic, theres not much you can do. But im pretty sure i said in the first line "Your going exactly 50km/hr and theres no one infront of you"
you guys are seriously complaining? come to Gayple Bitch (Maple Ridge) and as soon as lifted diesel truck ed hardy faggets see a lowered car there like "fuuuuuuukkkkk yeaaa!!!" and starts tailgaiting you, god i hate this place
The only time I would tap on brakes is if I'm already going 80 in a 50 zone and some guy is tailgating me still.
If that's the case, he obviously wants to take it personal or something. There's no reason to tail gate anyone
going 70+. Even 60 should be acceptably "tailgate free" speed.
I don't know if it's true for all cars, but the mazda3 tail lights engage slightly before the brakes actually catch.
(You have to press on the brake like maybe half a cm down)
you could do the left foot brake to turn on your red lights to force the guy behind to slam on his brakes while maintaining
your speed.

The OP didn't really give enough details in his situation of being tailgated. If he was driving super slow, then he's pretty much asking to be tail-gated considering no one really drives speed limit (50km).
It doesn't seem to matter... right lane, left lane, speed limit or not.... there's usually some moron tailgating. I don't really care anymore, if I have to brake, I have to brake. I've been rear ended twice in 2 years because I stopped for a red and another time in the stop n go of the lion's gate during rush hour. They're too busy concentrating on tailgating that they fail to look ahead of me to see what's going on.

how about some of you assholes stop pretending to be all righteous and shit, saying your doing the limit. 50 is a joke. If you're doing 50 in the left lane you deserve to be tailgated. The person tailgating you is only sending you a message "stop being a fucking retard and pull over" Its people that go speed limit up sfu on the left lane that piss me off, side by side with another fuck face.
She was on my ass in a school zone like a C-Lai on Chong Lee's market on no-tax Tuesday.
So she sees a gap (When I say gap I mean the curb lane) She guns past me to cut me off but ends up slamming the brakes @ the red light shortly ahead. Too bad I didn't get this bitch's mugshot but I got her plate. Really. It's a SCHOOL ZONE! Anyone remember the accident @ Grandview & Woodland Dr?
I get tailgated daily no matter what lane I'm in or how fast I'm going. I always think it's because I drive a coupe but I could be driving my mom's Accord and same shit. And I've been noticing lately that a lot of older, c-lai as there called, tailgate for no apparent reason.
I use to brake check or get super pissed but I've been tailgated by undercover cops in vans, pickup trucks and suvs who are itching for you to speed up or do something stupid so I usually stay calm and try to switch lanes and let the person pass me.
Intentionally slowing down when a tailgater is behind you can be quite dangerous. It incites more roadrage and the tailgater will probably do something more riskier such as sudden lane changes. Move over to the right lane if possible.
If you are being tailgated while driving on the right lane, then the tailgater is just an asshole.
One lane roads = ??

Sometimes we tend to be in despair when the person we love leaves us, but the truth is, it's not our loss, but theirs, for they left the only person who couldn't give up on them.
Make the effort and take the risk..
