Well maybe they don't fit your ear perfectly then, I tested them with PVD - Get Back (personal fav for testing how tight the punch of the speaker/hp is) and was very pleased with how they handled the pounding all the way up to 95% Vol. |
Theres only one pair that fits me well, wish there were foam buds that comes with these. Hmm in the beginning of each song i listen to has great bass. But once the vocals and the highs the bass seem to get over powered by em. Perhaps the Shure ones i used was all bass and i got used to em =\ BTW any other songs you recommend me testing these out with? Can't find high res of that PVD song. |
Just got my klipsch Image S4's in the mail the other day, they sound great, much better than the bose in ears and the monster turbines that I compared them with. For those of you who want the mic you can get the S4i @ the apple store or london drugs for around $120. Sound is sooooo clear, bass isn't like the studio beats, but it's equally clear, theres no point having all bass and shit everywhere else which I've noticed with all the monsters I've tried. I wouldn't mind trying out some of those ultimate ear ones but I'll wait till I'm through with these klipsch ones. Also anyone have the se115? Does monster make ONE decent set of headphones/earphones? I've tried most of them except the tours and none of them blew me away. The studios are good but worth maybe half of what people are paying for them. Turbines are better than your standard ipod ones but not worth $200. Gagas and solo beats aren't worth only as much as their knock off ebay versions... |
i got the bose QC15s for travel and general use. pricey but like what someone else said, they are an investment. |
I only use songs which I have on CD for testing to get the best results. Personally, the top 2 CDs I use are PVD In Between & Out There & Back. Most tracks have little to no vocals but very tight and brutal bass/beats. If you want PM me your email and ill rip the track Get Back for you in lossless or Wav. Do note that the beats are targeted more at bass/r&b/d&b genre if you are expecting them to shine when playing classical or operas etc you will be sorely disappointed. If you want a "do it all" I will recommend the x10i, thou not as tight and composed when pushed to the limits for pure d&b music, it is an excellent all round performer. |

Since there are so many that say the S4i were good and that it produces much better sound across all frequencies, I decided to buy a pair to try out for myself. As far as bass goes it is no where close to the Tours, push it pass ~70% volume and it breaks/cracks. I own a pair of x10s, thus, expected the mids and highs to be impressive and much better than the Tours which are basically tuned for more bass. I was shocked that they are no better then the Tours (tried with a few operas, jazz, lounge, lossless rips). Overall, they are definitely better than the stock apples, but no where as mind blowing as I hoped it would be. I know they are considerably cheaper than the Tours/x10 but so many have claimed that they are about as good/better. For the price, sound quality is acceptable but so are my old $40 sony ex earphones. Note to those planning to get these: The quality of the wires are down right sad. They must have decided to go with a cheaper manufacturer (compared to when I bought my x10s) as there are so thin/flimsy and feel as if they would snap if I accidentally pulled at it lightly. The rubber feels extremely cheap and out of the box it already shown signs of its poor quality with various "dents" in them Few quick snaps showing wire quality and thickness compared to tours http://i745.photobucket.com/albums/x...ndoms/s4i1.jpg http://i745.photobucket.com/albums/x...ndoms/s4i2.jpg |
Maybe yours is fake. Posted via RS Mobile |
I highly doubt london drugs sell fake klipsche. I never buy stuff online even if it's cheaper unless it's from a reputable store or if I don't have a choice. Posted via RS Mobile |
id gladly take them off your hands if you are dissatisfied ;) |
^ Oh I am definitely not happy and will return them to LD. (I doubt you would want to pay full retail for a used item). If you are satisfied with that level of sound/build quality you should try the scorche 300 or 355 (can't remember exactly). Since they are only $40 you can easily replace them 2 more times when they break (as compared to the s4is @$130). |
did you make sure to break them in first |
Yep, from lunch till I went home was playing shuffle on my mbp. So 6+ hrs. Posted via RS Mobile |
i think you should try plugging them into your computer and let the music play ...for another 70 hours or so then see if you want to return them or not i heard you'll notice the most difference in the quality after 15-20 hours of break in then another 10-15 hours after that |
Try exchanging it for a different one. You may have just gotten a bad pair; the one I tested seem to have decent cabling and was in good shape. |
I remember reading in some audio/hi-fi forums that 5-10 hrs is enough. Irony is i did not even do the run in thing for my x10s as i only read about this practice recently but from the first use they impressed me. Well no harm plugging them in for another 10h or so then testing again. I doubt the cable issue has anything to with being a bad pair. It's the overall thickness of the rubber housing and joints at the buds/3.5 connector. Doing a quick search on apple.ca there seem to be others who are experiencing cable failure too due to poor quality. Posted via RS Mobile |
I like how you're comparing the S4's to the Tours, when the Tours are almost 2 times the price. i think for a pair of <$100, the S4's are great. I do really like them more than a pair of $40 Sony EX headphones; I think they're well worth the price paid. Mind you, the pair I bought, was around £25. I have a friend who had a pair of X10s, and always complained about the cable quality on them. He had them exchanged once through Amazon.co.uk, then whent he problem came back, he got a refund on them instead. I did like the sound on them though - but they were EXPENSIVE... |
where do you buy the s4's for less than 100? (unless its on sale in which ignore this). they are usually $120ish without taxes. I have also heard good things about them but i haven't decided not to try them since i'm coming from SHURE SE310's. now im not saying the SE310's are amazing.. they arent.. they give you nice highs and clarity but it lacks boomy bass and DURABILITY.. that is the main problem with old SHURE's. the cords are utter crap and they will fray on you in no time. the bright side is shure came out with a new line with upgraded replaceable cables so that problem is fixed hopefully. The SE310's are not horrible in a good player (cowon,S:Flo2,Sansa,or a sony) but if you are gonna use it in an ipod then dont waste your money. I am currently satisfied with the SE310's and people are saying that it is crap, so now im looking into the SE425's or the SE535's because the bass is supposedly better and the cables are now replaceable and more durable.. the problem is the price.. the markup on these are horrendous.. the stores literally mark these things up 100%.. so the 535 costs are only around 260ish and 425's only cost around 180ish.. hopefully i can get an ok staff discount on them.. IF NOT.. then im gonna try to claim my last warranty and sell the SE310's to get these bad boys http://www.accessoryjack.com/-strse-...mic/Detail.bok http://www.audio-technica.co.jp/atj/...ass/index.html the bass on these are apparently better than the sennheiser IE8's and have a similar sound stage. Reviews on head-fi say the bass is like a in car sub woofer : D other cheap well regarded options you can choose are the Panasonic HJE900, the Victor (JVC) FX-5000 (less bass more treble), Head-Direct RE0, Etymotic mc5, and the Denon C710 |
I bought my S4 (no mic) on ebay for $60. S4i were at least $100 so might as well get them in store. Getting iphone 4 next week so I want to get the i's though |
