I did mention previously that the s4 are cheaper than the beats/x10. However, I decided to compare them because they were said to be almost as good for bass and better for mids/highs, which they are definitely not. For the x10s, I own a pair for over 2 years and am very pleased with the build quality and sound, which led me to believe that the s4i could possibly be better than the beats (for mids/highs). Sadly again, they are not.

There are a couple of under $100 (some even with apple remote/mic) earphones which sound great so its not surprising at all that the s4 do. Its good that you got a deal on the s4, at that price, they are well worth it (just like my $40 ex76) but at ~$120+ for the remote version, sorry, there are better options like the scorches.

Guess its all comes down to personal preference, after leaving them on for another 10+ hrs, the bass and mids still splatter all over the place when pushed.

that is a sign you dont have a proper seal. youll get no really clear sounding highs but like no bass..

make sure you try all the ear tips.. im coming from shure SE310 and the tours rape the shit out of them in terms of bass. im not even using the full bass eq on my player and its like listening to my z-2300 speakers subwoofer

ilvtofu 10-06-2010 01:01 PM

S4i wire quality definitely isn't as good as the monsters, but that's what you're paying 60-80% more for, packaging, the bass is a different type of bass, IMO the tours can't match the S4s for clarity.

Need a suggestion for a good earphone with a mic/control talk etc, for my new iphone 4, don't feel like paying twice as much as I did for my S4's for the S4i lol, they are really comfortable though

Not sure if in-ear is good for me, I hate feeling every single step I take through my earphones and every bump on the wire travels to your ears as well, maybe I'll just use my stock apple ones :/

Wear them such that the cable is around your ears instead of hanging down. This eliminates most of the microphonics, if not all.

not the best, but fucking cheeeappppp

I'm thinking of ordering a set of v-moda vibe duos from ebay, need a set of earphones for talking on the phone, hella annoying when someone calls and i'm listening to music. Heard these were best bang for the buck. They are only about $30 from ebay, downsides are that there are no buttons for answering phone :( but the kevlar reinforced wire I've read is really good and easily untangled

Any other suggestions? the price is good but I don't know if it'll be annoying not to have the button

I'm also considering the vibe ii's

Are those noise canceling?

Berz out.

woob 10-07-2010 07:06 PM

^ No, but they're closed so they'll have some degree of isolation.

Ulic Qel-Droma 10-08-2010 05:03 PM

I recently got the bose in ear IE2 earbuds... I like em. they're better than any other earbud ive used. nice low clear bass, and nice clear highs.

mind you i got them at 50% off retail price, i wouldnt pay 120 or 130 for them or whatever it was.

Iceman_2K 10-09-2010 12:06 PM

Having tried out so many, I think the best bang for the buck are these:

http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-ANC7-ATHANC7-Noise-cancelling-Headphones/dp/B000OMKR8E
I've got few headsets from Audio Technica and they're definately better than the Seinheisser or Bose headsets.

BlacknJean 10-09-2010 01:53 PM

I'm looking for a good 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound headset that can be used for BOTH PC and my TV.

the cheaper the better but I have no budget limit. Thanks

if you still have your dre studios
you can see if where ever they bought it will let you return or see if they have a price guarantee thing going on for their policies.

The source has the white Beats by Dr. Dre Studio headphones for $219.99 (web find, so its online but they ship to the store for free).

Here is the link:
http://www.thesource.ca/estore/produ...roduct=3314412

I just price-matched them today at FS and got them for $207.98 (should have been $206.98 but I didn't care to argue for a dollar).

It's $143 off so I couldn't resist.

Just picked up a pair of head direct RE0s. They're amazing. If you haven't heard of them just google it and find reviews on it. It's a headfi favorite.

hey where did you score these for 50% off?

i ran my in-ears over with a vacuum cleaner and looking for a new pair

twitchyzero 10-13-2010 09:50 PM

can anyone suggest IEM under $50?
I lost my senn cx-300 only after a year and i really liked that pair (i only paid $18 for em and they were genuine haha)..anything comparable in that price range?

woob 10-13-2010 10:43 PM

If you can find them for $7 like I paid for mine, JVC Marshmallows (FX-33). Else, I've had Senn CX-400s that I found for $30 (genuine) that were amazing for the price, but I've since fucked them up and have gone back to Marshmallows before I drop some coin on a higher end set of IEMs. Can't really speak for any other IEMs as I havent tried any others... oh other than some Skullcandy Smokin' Buds that sucked major balls. The higher JVX FX-xx models would also probably be worth looking into.

teaoh 10-13-2010 11:16 PM

Lol where do you guys find sennheiser for so cheap? My cx-300 II sounds a bit off. I think the aux cord might be loose

Ikkaku 10-13-2010 11:53 PM

^ no kidding, must be some crazy sale, or had to pay a lot for shipping =\

twitchyzero 10-14-2010 08:26 AM

where do you find the marshmellows and cx-400 for cheap?
i bought my cx-300 from JR electronics stateside..shipping was like $5

i'd figure i go with the jvc's until next summer when i can buy audio technica IEM in asia..they dont seem to carry em here

Nice! I really want to pick up a set in the future cause of the great reviews. In the mean time I picked up Panasonic HJE 900 at @ $80.

The Marshmallows were on sale at Best Buy (local) some time ago. I think the regular price was $20 or something like that. The CX-400 was bought through amazon.com for ~$35 shipped to Blaine, but I don't remember the seller... but they were definitely real as I checked my unit out against the pics in the threads on fakes at head-fi and anythingbutipod. I think there's been a revision lately (CX400 II) and those are going for >$50 online.

Shiet son, where did you buy the Panasonics for that price? I've only read amazing things about them, but I've always been hesitant to drop $150 for them. But now that my HST credit came in, I'm willing to splurge haha.

BTW, this thread has really diverged from "Noise cancelling headphones" haha. Perhaps the thread title should be changed to something more appropriate?

Shipping is $5.95 and apparently Canada post ends up delivering it so maybe taxes maybe not! Check it out:

I have a pair of Sennheiser noise canceling headphones, but I could never get used to the humming it produces to cancel the ambient noise.
