Disclaimer: I'm not a 99 user anymore. I took the line during 8 years at UBC, and I was always lucky to be taking it end to end. I always felt so bad for the people along the way that get passed up by 3-4 buses because the 99 was full at Commercial already.
Edit: I read that as Broadway/Surrey LRT. I cannot read. Thanks everyone!

bus drivers
is there a reason why buses going up w10th from alma seem to like to take up both lanes when going up that hill? and when they do it seems like it's 10kph below speed limit.
I've seen it a few times now, and they're not always the trolley buses.

It looks like Phase 1 of the Surreh expansion will be light rail. Since Phase 2 to Langley won't happen for a while, I'm willing to bet it will be Skytrain. It just makes too much sense. The province will step in in about 10 years and tell TransLink what to do, much like it did with the Evergreen Line which was originally going to be light rail.

With the mayor announcing the 10 year vision project for Translink, here is Moonbeam's annual spending on bike lanes!

I've seen it a few times now, and they're not always the trolley buses. | The buses are about 8.5 feet wide.
Lane 1 along West 10th heading towards UBC isn't exactly what you call wide. Especially with the parked cars on the side.
Technically we could be driving in lane one but the driver side tires will be kissing the broken white lines and on the passenger side of the bus there would only be 3 inches of clearance. At this going rate you would be knocking out mirrors and doors all day long.
EDIT: by straddling on two lanes, you create a bigger safe area around the bus.
To answer your other question, we don't purposely drive 10kmh below the limit when straddling both lines. It just comes down to the laws of physics. Big heavy bus isn't going to pick up speed going up hill unlike a light weight Honda Civic.

This is what I like about RS. We have bus drivers giving first hand info and experiences to people who see it only from their POV.
Teacher strike - we had teachers giving their side of the story.
Postal issues, we had postal workers chime in with their side of the story.
Bashing of Natives - we had Native Russ................ wait......... nvm.
Construction workers, mechanics, you name it............ oh, can't forget engineers......... right, soundy?

Sure we could only drive in 1 lane but we would be right up next to parked cars. All it takes is for some person who's not looking to open their door while we come and BAM! Safety is our #1 goal.

i think this also applies to that curved arbutus hill from w33 to w37. i've seen some drivers use only the right lane while others use both lanes.

TransLink says there is no train service across the system’s Fraser River bridge, between Marine Drive Station and Bridgeport Station. The issues initially began at approximately 11 am, with service operating with delays on a single track, but that has since devolved into a complete shutdown in service between Vancouver and Richmond.
