I can understand why.. main arteries are the priorities.. it is not like the plow can magically extend when there are turn lanes.. so they will have to go back to do it.

so other drivers have to go around you in the straight thru lane blocking other traffic because the turn signal has now turned red.

fail fail fail.

Anyone have an idea if they will be checking ID for the free firehouse salt tomorrow?

So glad I had my studded tires on while down on the coast while on my New Years vacation. So many streets that were just sheer ice, it wasn't even funny. Felt a little bad just zooming around people stuck spinning their tires in intersections, but not too much.

But, oh man. Driving back to Kamloops this morning was brutal. Super heavy winds in the Valley kept knocking cars around everywhere on the highway.

For those of you in Vancouver, there are 10 fire stations giving out free salt. My dad went to the fire station and he said that no one was looking after the salt.

Side streets in East Van are such ice rinks that I'm having to seek the patches of actual snow to drive on to get traction when the roads are slightly hilly. I'm amazed more cars haven't had slow speed hits with curbs and parked cars in these areas.

so who's responsible for shoveling snow on the sidewalks for residences? Tenant or landlord?
Just wondering who would be held responsible if the city issued a fine or someone sued for falling.
Presume that there is no written agreement in the lease (unless it's in the RTA somewhere and I missed it)

I think if you're the sole occupant of the residence you are required (regardless of landlord or tenant) but if you're a tenant then the landlord is required to provide the necessary equipment for snow/ice removal. I think.

I help out with shoveling/salting (landlord lives upstairs and is a family friend), but when I lived in Burnaby in the same situation (except the landlord was just my landlord) I left the shoveling/salting to him.

Legal consequences of failing to clear your sidewalk of ice, snow - NEWS 1130

Quote:
NEWS 1130 Legal Analyst Michael Shapray says it comes down to who lives there in front of the property and not who owns it. “Generally, the person who is in the property is responsible clearing the sidewalks in front of the residence or business.”

Well, got out the spring loaded ice scraper and cleared the back alley. This tool is awesome. I gave it to my neighbour last week, but he told me it didn't work well. Ummmmmm......... you need to have technique that comes from years of experience, lol.

Here's a video clip of how it works in the hands of a master. Using one hand to record and the other to do the damage.

Sorry, I'm pretty new to this. This is only the second video I've uploaded.

Let me know if it works. When I bring it up, it works, of course. I might have forgotten to publish it, lol.

Went to Fire Hall #19 - 4396 W. 12th St at 9:22am and they were all out of salt... Saw people with buckets of all shapes & sizes.

There was also a moron parked in a no-stopping zone right near the entrance to the fire hall when the fire truck was coming back...

someone pointed the irony in the streets surrounding the firehall were ice and unsalted...

they were just talking on the radio firefighters @ firehall 12 had to physically restrain a guy who showed up last night and was loading up his truck with salt that he was shoveling into garbage cans... wtf?

Handing out free salt in this weather is like handing out free water after a natural disaster - it brings out the worst in people...

So, they were supposed to give out free salt this morning, but the salt was taken/stolen by people over night? Well, when shit is offered for free, it is expected, I guess. Can you imagine how things around here would be if we had an earthquake? All hell would break loose. Walking Dead would have nothing on the people of Vancouver.
