someone should pretend to buy the salt from the CL guy, get his number, and then post a new ad on CL for free salt with his number.

Most of you probably now have some experience driving in ice / snow condition.. time to look into your car's traction system.

eg The first car I have that have modern contraction control is a BMW MZ3, it only retards throttle and pretty much it (since it is a manual). My latest car is a X6 and the traction control has evolved quite a bit, it now have steering, wheel, brake sensors, not to mention yaw, throttle, gearbox etc.

My point is since the winter driving condition will persist for another few weeks, it will be worth while to look into your particular traction control systems' details eg which sensors do your car has? and quirks in order to maximize the utility of the system. eg when you loose traction, you stop on the brake to get ABS kick in = freaking useless. You should have the intelligence to go a slow as condition allows in the first place.

There are certain cases where I think Traction control can be disabled for older cars.. ones that only retard throttle and lower gear shifts.. If you are reading this, you should know to be really gentle on the throttle, so I rather to have full authority rather than a delayed reaction.. However the modern your car is, the less likely you want to disable your traction control.

As I have said before, practice practice practice.. the Overflow lot at Coquitlam Central Centre (west of Rona) looks like a perfect place!!

However I was told by a cashier at HD that some guy laid on top of a pallet of salt to stop people from picking up bags of salt. (people did anyways) so that his wife can run and get a buggy to load up.

Can you imagine when we have the "Big one" earthquake or the Zombie apocalypse?

Lower Mainland, you never cease to amaze me.

I've only gone through one jug of Alaskan Melt so far this season and that's only because the sifter top popped loose and I dumped a bunch of salt on the ground by accident. I have a relatively large driveway (six car capacity, plus garage) that's on a 20* uphill angle. I bought studded tires specifically because of that angle and the lack of run up speed Even so, people just need to learn how to clear snow properly. I also have a push shovel and a shoveling, er, shovel. Oh, and an actual spade shovel to help move the heavy crap when the plow blocks my driveway at 3am. No leaf blower, but my corn broom does wonder with powder snow.

No times set, one in the AM one in the PM. It's literally 2 guys with 1 truck packing up a truckload then going to all 10 firehalls then loading up again and doing a 2nd loop which means times will differ at every single hall. At least that's the latest info I have.

To all the people fighting for and hoarding salt at the firehalls, you can just turn on the hose and use the water to melt the ice around your houses.

You can thank me later.

I noticed the entrance to our alleys have been graciously cleared. Not sure by who? (Burnaby by Highgate - Elwell St). Saw a guy on an ATV earlier but he was doing it for money I think.

City workers have been working really hard the last bit, each day more and more snow/ice is cleared. Quite thankful for that.

Stewie said several pages back the city of burnaby has hired private contractors to clear the back lanes for the garbage and recycling trucks to do their thing. i had a backhoe come and go last week and the garbage truck came, but no recycling

Lol that is soooo fucking GROSS!

Honestly I can put up with a lot of shit from people being rude ignorant fucks, even physical aggression, but shit like that is what gets me boiling the most. I'd be swinging elbows and ducking fists pretty quick if I was one waiting in line and everyone just fucking swarmed in front of me like that
