early-mid 90's corolla, should be right around your price range, i'm sure they use them in the army because these cars are fucking tanks - easy on gas, easy to fix, lots of parts around as they are very common cars, and mechanically they virtually need nothing

speaking from having owned one, sold it at 192k km (i heard these things will easily go 300-400k) a few years back for 4000 - pretty impressive if you ask me

It's hard to predict what the market will be in a couple of years, but Nursing jobs are slim to none right now.

Perhaps, but it opens other opportunities.. eg secretary or assistants for surgeons etc. My sister just hired a nurse to deal with her surgery schedule for the same amount / better amount of pay (80k). You don't have to deal with all the physical stuff etc or even be at a hospital... There are nurses openings, but they are probably too "menials" for locals. Remember, Practical Nurses are Philippine's largest export. In the end, if you have people skills, your possibilities are endless.

Unfortunately just like the "all teachers are retiring, so go train to be a teacher", we are in the same phase for nurses.

I am sure the OP just see nursing as a step not the final destination.

Of all the things, I would say the demand for $20+ part time job is probably the hardest.

going to school for something I want to do and actually going is better than doing nothing.

There may be no market here, but there are other cities in the world.

next step. Student loans.

Source that nursing jobs are slim to none?

I'm going into nursing, my gf's sister going into it, her cousin is going into it, my aunt is a nurse, her aunt is nurse, my best friends mom is a nurse and I've never heard anything about difficulty finding a job.

Maybe care aids or LPNs, but not RNs.

Probably shouldn't say its slim to none, but its definitely not what it used to be for sure. There have been cuts all over the place, but I can only speak for Vancouver Coastal Health only. If your family is in nursing then they probably already know how the market is these days. But like I said who knows in a couple of years.

Seems like a lot of government jobs are pretty scarce right now, including Teachers, Cops, etc....

Actually even though there are tons of RN positions in the job database, there are no funding for anyone of them.

Most hospital executive rather hire 2 LPNs so they can improve the head count over 1 RN. Another thing is because of the financial hit, and there is no more mandatory retirement age, more and more RNs are going part time.

Very few RN's as most hospitals are having only ONE RN on staff for all the other phillipino express nurses to order around. So being that your white good luck getting a nurse gig.

Dude, eat lol.

Considering the job market, nurses actually have more options than almost any other professional career. Our population is aging and the demand for health care workers is increasing, just give the economy time to rebound and government jobs will with it. Male nurses are in higher demand than female nurses anyway, especially if your willing to work in the less popular departments like ER or surgical. Friend of a friend of mine graduated as an RN a couple years ago and is currently making $280k a year in Dubai, living expenses are 100k a year but still..

Couple other helpful things, if you do take out a student loan then I believe all the interest is covered when you graduate if you work in an impoverished or rural area 1 day a week. Chilliwack counts lol.

Its probably going to be 2 years before you actually start full-time into the program since you need to take some courses, apply, then sit on the wait list. Thats a couple years to save money.

Also, considering the ratio of females to males in nursing classes keep the baller car and enjoy your classmates company .

Wait list starts now. You do your pre-req's while you wait. Plus when you wait list, people drop out. My friend whos in the program now at langara was told 2 years but I believe he waited only a year.

I'm also going to talk to douglas and kwantlen counsillers since those arn't waitlisted and see what I can do to get in. I also count as mature student status.

You know whats funny? When I had a mental breakdown 2 weeks ago about my future, I started looking into careers in f1 and the williams team is looking for a male RN and a carer to take care of mr. williams. Pay isn't the greatest, but damn if you got the job, you get to travel the world.

If I could go back in time and kick myself in the ass and say "WTF ARE YOU DOING!?!!?!" I would, but sadly I should just accept the consequences and work on my goals from here.

Hey MajinHurricane, how old are you anyways? If you're only twenty something, I don't see why you're sweating so much man. 20's are for experimenting, only the dumbest people never change. Change is good! Anyways good luck with everything!

Kwantlen used to have a one year wait list, I think thats gone now, but the points process is extremely competitive and you basically need all your pre-reqs done to be accepted.

I love that you started looking into careers in f1 haha
It takes time to settle down and choose a career, myself and a couple other friends are completely changing our planned career paths after years of school.

yes, volvo.

reliable as hell.

they go forever, and parts for the older models are cheap.

but few things to watch out....

- if turbo'd - condition of turbo/turbo seals
- oil leaks - they all do, but they can leak like a fountain!
- heatercores, if they havent been replaced... they might need to soon $$$
- engine wiring harness (become dry and fragile with age and need to be replaced $$$)
-rear main seals $$$

the list can go on.

I loved my 740, and i was lucky that the previous owner accessed all the problems that i've listed. If you're finding a volvo. Find a well maintained one!

It looks like langara got rid of their application process. So it looks like my only path is 30 credits. Better start hitting up some classes.

Not to bad, register for January now and you could complete all 30 credits by September.
