I dunno I don’t try to watch shit like that and knit pick it to death. Generally just turn my brain off and at least attempt to enjoy it. There were definitely some plot holes but as a whole I really enjoyed it

It didn’t jam shit down your throat like Acolyte did which had me rolling my eyes actively while watching

mikemhg 10-04-2024 04:37 PM

You didn't like the power of many? :lol

SkinnyPupp 10-04-2024 04:45 PM

I thought Acolyte was pure shit, but I don't get the "woke" complaints. Can someone wokesplain it to me?

Hondaracer 10-04-2024 04:59 PM

There was such an overemphasis it felt on like making a point of using pronouns? Which just felt like the straw that broke the camels back for me in top of the overall shit writing and acting

Like I felt everything that entailed was substantially more than any other star wars of Disney+ show I had watched previously so it stood out and just felt tired and unnecessary.

When you read all these stories about cancelling this show was “hateful” and just because “men” get their way it makes it even more evident this was just some BS lol

It's out on Crunchy Roll first as of now

Netflix will follow suit on October 18

But if you don't have a crunchy roll account, it's also available on other sites such as 9animetv.to but be aware of pop ups

Fun fact, EDM producer Zedd did the intro and outro for Dragon Ball Daima based on his song out of time

Ranma 1/2 remake is out on Netflix

I've only seen the first episode. The fight scenes are cool, but I'm not sure I like the rest of it. The scenes are the same as the original with modern anime flair. The Japanese version has some original voice actors reprising their roles, but the English version is an all-new cast.

SkinnyPupp 10-18-2024 02:20 PM

I checked out the first episode, and the original is so much better. Some of the effects are cool, but the new one looks like flash animation and not in a good way.

Just can't beat hand drawn animation for me, sorry. Kids might prefer this though.

A friend and I used to rent it on VHS every week from the comic shop back in high school. That's when I first got into nerdy Japanese stuff, but I didn't stick with it for that long. Most of it is so cringey. But I always loved Ranma 1/2 (even though it's also cringey lol)

Ive been watching a German show on Netflix called Kleo recently, it's around the time the Berlin Wall fell and kind of a dark humour spy thriller with the female protaganist getting revenge on former colleagues.

It's pretty good, the first episode didn't completely grab me but I went back for the 2nd one and been hooked since.

I advise watching it in German with English subtitles... if you watch it dubbed everyone has British accents for some reason which is all kinds of wrong for the mood and story.

The bear season 3
Binged season 1-2 this year so glad this was up and ready.
it does continue on the story line.
I do have with this - there's always a middle episode coming out from left field that doesn't relate (too much) to the story line. Both times were with Jamie lee curtis lol....
Another episode was when they did a flash back of a character before she was hired..so random.

there will be a part 4 so i'm happy.

Interior Chinatown
5/10

I like Jimmy O Yang, which is why the show caught my eye when the advertising came up. The trailer was interesting and entertaining as any good trailer ought to be, so I thought I'd give it a go.

But boy, was the trailer ever misleading... I thought it'd be more of a police drama-comedy, but it wasn't.

It wasn't a bad show. It's a mix of mystery / comedy / cultural exploration. It even touches on themes like the struggles and expectations of immigrant life and gentrification. It was interesting, funny, engaging, and at times, even captivating. But at the same time, the show also has a tendency to become confusing, convoluted, or just straight up doesn't make sense. That detracts from my enjoyment of the show, and it is unfortunate parts of it turned out that way.

The big mystery doesn't get exposed until the final episode. While it explains everything, I didn't find the explanation satisfying, so that's unfortunate too.

Chloe Bennet is easy on the eyes, but I thought Ronny Chieng was really the one that stole the show.

It also helps if you understand both Cantonese and Mandarin.

Just finished watching this. I liked it, although the whole "Chinatown/Chinese American" angle was a bit more subdued than the trailer made it seem. The showrunner Charles Yu was a writer on Westworld, and if you are familiar with that show this one makes a lot more sense. Anyways for me it was pretty obvious where the show was going by the 5th or so episode, don't know about others but yeah it's kind of a weird mind fuck ala Black Mirror.

SkinnyPupp 12-10-2024 05:31 PM

Anyone watching the Dune HBO series? For me it's been compelling enough, but I'm not dying for the next episode to come out, like peak GOT or whatever. So far, so good

whitev70r 12-10-2024 06:23 PM

The previews and buzz on Jamie Foxx, What had happened was ... looks really good. Funny, moving, personal, and riveting account of his health scare in which he almost died.

Squid Game S2 TIME!!!!

SkinnyPupp 01-04-2025 01:19 PM

I finally checked out Skeleton Crew and the marketing of this show (well the trailer) really lets it down

All they needed to say was: Goonies, but Star Wars. SOLD.

Like put some cues in the promotional graphics, and at LEAST make the trailer let us know it's more than a bunch of kids screaming non stop.

It's my wife's turn to pick and I'm watching Castaway Diva

Park Eun-bin (female actress) won her award from her previous show Extraordinary Attorney Woo which was short, sweet and educational so we also chose this one.

I just watched season 1 of The Gold, it's a short series about the massive 1980's gold heist in the UK. It mostly covers what happened after the theft, since they didn't know about the gold ahead of time. It's a really good watch but the accents get a little thick sometimes if you're not used to them.

https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/i...uZguPwQEbYng&s

got time to check this out. They did make a disclaimer they are going ot make sure they focus more on the human factor instead of the games.

All in all, no spoilers; they did take a slow ass time to pick the story back up. Thought it was a bit slow in the 1st two episode just to keep the story to continue....

Few things, would have made it a bit more enjoyable for me is to know that this is a 2 part series (and season 3 is final). I did think they did a decent job despite using the same old clothes, theme, game style.

They did add in Ethnicity Diversity and Inclusivity (EDI) blah blah blah, but all in all, it kept up to pace and writing..let's see how they end the series.

mikemhg 01-10-2025 10:05 AM

We started to watch season 2 and just couldn't get back into it.

I feel like they should've just let the show end on the first season.

SkinnyPupp 01-11-2025 01:49 AM

Watched the first 4 episodes of American Primeval and it's been... enjoyable? I like period pieces, history, and they don't hold back although of course it's a work of fiction, so it's not going to be historically accurate. It's a compelling adventure with a variety of likeable and hateable characters, and shit goes down.

It has a lot of the elements of modern movies/series that bother me, but that's just what you have to deal with when you watch something that comes out in 2025. ADHD camera cuts, lots of shaky cam, corny CGI effects

I think it's worth checking out, but binge at your own risk.. It's pretty intense, and moments of levity are few and far between. I feel like I would have enjoyed it more watching an episode or two at a time. I'll check out the final 2 episodes in the coming days lol

SkinnyPupp 01-11-2025 01:59 AM

Also been enjoying Skeleton Crew on Disney+. It's basically Goonies + Star Wars, even with some pretty direct references and done in that Spielberg style at times. I can see this being this generation's Goonies.
