| Any Notary Publics or Lawyers In The House?
I lost my passport, and need to get a new one... but I need to have form PPTC 203 filled out in order to do so.
PPTC 203 requires a notary public or lawyer to witness me signing it. www.ppt.gc.ca/form/pdfs/pptc203_eng.pdf
Anyone here qualified and live in East Vancouver?
Would love to get this dealt with tonight so that I can go to the passport office tomorrow...
I think it would literally take one minute.
Thanks!

just call up any lawyer that is close to you and they will be able to sign it on the spot for you.

What would a lawyer charge for this service?

You're much better off finding a notary public in doing so because they would charge substanially less and they can usually deal with it on a walk in basis. With a lawyer, you would almost always need an appointment before they have time for you.

Jesus H Christ, I sent an email to a few notary publics close to me, and they quoted me $40.
Are you kidding me? It's literally a one minute witnessing job... all they need to do is fill in their name, phone number, and sign it.
Anyone know one that is much more reasonable, ideally like $10 or $20 max?

Thanks for the help guys... I think I can call off the search now.
Totally neglected the fact that there are actually a couple lawyers in the company I work at... LoL.
We are on different floors, and I'm a systems administrator, so we never interact... so that's why it didn't occur to me right away.
Just asked one of them if they could help me out, and he said no problem. |

Thanks! | OP, sorry to jack your thread.
So you just fill out the PPTC 203 form and then you can get a new " replacement " passport right?
Same thing happened to my buddy, a few weeks back but he didn't want to deal with the notary thing - seemed complicated. Was just going to apply for a new passport...

I would assume the new one will be valid for 5 years, not just the remaining balance of the lost one.
I don't think he can just apply for a new one without getting PPTC 203 filled out... for sure their computers will show that he already has an existing, current passport, and there's no way they'll issue another one...

Anyone know one that is much more reasonable, ideally like $10 or $20 max? | You need a report. With our business we befriended one and she literley would sign probably 15-20 documents a month and hasn't charged us in 10 years.

Yeah, they CAN charge like $40 for it, but it's no skin off their back to do it for free if they felt like it.
It's so dumb... really, what difference does it make whether a notary witnesses me signing this document saying I lost my passport?
But yet, if you don't know any notary public or lawyer, you can get charged $40 for nothing more than a few mindless pen strokes.

They should be called a Public Notary... then it would be obvious to pluralize it as Public Notaries. |
