As it stands right now I owe about a grand. However atm I have the cra involved in an investigation cause I had a company refusing to put me onto payroll and kept me as a contract worker. Needless to say after I had enough and quit labour relations help me win the case of contractor vs employee. In the midst of everything the direction to have the company pay the taxes they never deducted hadn't been done so now I get to delay filing my taxes until I deal with this situation :(

Who here's tax return gets raped after they enter the tuition amounts??

Theres a box where it asks you to enter the unused tuition credits from previous years... Not quite sure if my tuition credits were "used" or not

unused tuition credits should actually help you as deductibles, thus lowering your taxable income.

your unused tuition credit should be on your last year's 2010 assessments or if you have an CRA account online, you can login and see it there as well.

i think i heard from my family's accountant that when you finish school you can claim those tuition amounts and you'd get the money back when you didnt receive during the school years. this was a year ago so my memory is probably inaccurate.

another thing was... i earned ALOT more than i did during 2010, yet my tax return was decreased !? from 67 bucks last year to 50 bucks this year... also my GST HST credit cheques were estimated to be 4 payments of 99 bucks each, down from 130 something this year

I find ways to shaft myself over, thinking since I didn't make a lot in 2011 and didn't bother to buy some RRSP. Now I wished I bought a little bit at least :fuuuuu:

Return isn't a lot, just a bit over $2k. Good for car insurance :fuckyea:

A little clarification for those of you that are still wondering

You get tuition credits from going to school, if you have made income in that particular year over your personal exemption you have to use up those credits in that year

Now if you didn't have any income, you transfer those credits over to the next year, or a year when you actually make income over your personal exemption. Please keep in mind that you HAVE to use those credits up once you start making income over the personal exemption amount, and can't save them up for when you have a larger income for later on down the road

You can find out the amount you have by checking your last years reassessment forms

$7200 back. Fuck yeah!

Too bad the same day I got it back, I applied $8000 towards my mortgage, so I didn't see a cent of it. Hahaha.
