i guess he pissed Skinnypupp off , poor guy

There was nothing useful in his post. He was trying to be "smart" by posting some complicated math formula a few pages back. Then some people including myself failed him for it. Then he posted some off topic trolling shit, which is auto-points in this thread at least.

If you think the formula might be useful in some way, it's still there. And that's the last of what should be mentioned of him in this thread. If anyone has concerns regarding rules, pm me.

This is your opinion only; I was going to thank him for his post because it made a good point about the Richter scale.

so all the experts seem to agree the nuclear situation in Japan is worse than Americas "Three Mile Island" situation but its still No Chernobyl (based on articles linked in here previously) and most recently by the French Nuclear Safety Chief Andre-Claude Lacoste

Tokyo city government says the radiation level there is 10 times the usual amount for the city, but still not at a sufficient level to be any threat to human health.

ALSO everyone seems to be reporting that the radioactivity levels are dropping around Fukushima (IAEA too) so.. good sign! (also from reuters, etc)

chun 03-15-2011 06:11 AM

M6.2 just hit Shizuoka. Was a M4 in Tokyo.

neggo 03-15-2011 06:13 AM

That picture of the mother and the father with their daughter is just heartbreaking...rough thing to start off with first thing in the morning.

The IAEA is now saying that yesterday's explosion at the Fukushima Daiichi plant may have affected integrity of main containment vessel.

It says there is a 30km no-fly zone in place around the plant.
Quote:

The U.S. navy says more military personnel in Japan are testing positive for low levels of radiation (no figures). They say relief missions are continuing.

Some U.S. warships due to arrive on the east coast of Honshu, however, will now head to the west coast due to radiological hazards.
Quote:

The U.S. says it detects low-level radioactivity at its Yokosuka military base in Japan (no figures as yet). It advises personnel and families at Yokosuka and naval air facility Atsugi to take precautions including limiting outdoor activities and securing external ventilation systems as much as possible.

Some more on that U.S. military story: "These measures are strictly precautionary in nature. We do not expect that any United States federal radiation exposure limits will be exceeded even if no precautionary measures are taken," the Seventh Fleet said in a statement.

all from http://live.reuters.com/Event/Japan_earthquake2

Keep in mind though Radiation levels are Dropping

SkinnyPupp 03-15-2011 06:54 AM

Yup basically they are saying what we already know... There's a bit of radiation out there. Nothing more, or less, can be said right now.

A head cold is worse than 3MI. There were no deaths there, no injuries, and no known long-term health effects. The whole thing was overblown by panic, and not helped by the fact that the movie "The China Syndrome" came out about two weeks earlier.

I'm not concerned in the least... and I'm not naive. I've taken the time to educate myself on the relevant facts rather than jumping to conclusions, as so many seem to do. I also have the (apparently rare) ability to think rationally, rather than just hopping on the panic train... because once you do that, it's almost impossible to hop off.

blkgsr 03-15-2011 07:29 AM

i can only imagine the scene along the cost right now...how many bodies were submerged or pulled back out to sea (like the guy found 9 miles off shore on this roof) that will now be washing up

just terrible :(

Found this on twitter in reply to all the ignorant comments about pearl harbor. Thought it was pretty funny.

Yeah, felt pretty strong here. I am on a high floor though so it seems to amplify the effects. Apparently it was upgraded to a 6.4 now.

22,000 homes without power, some roofs caved in, but no tsunami warnings or deaths as of yet. I wonder if that was the 7plus they were talking about, or if that one is still on its way.

ImpactZ 03-15-2011 01:59 PM
