It would have to be in a public place. I really doubt if coffee shops would allow this.
Someone's apartment party room, an empty university classroom, etc is ideal.
As for security, well...we'll play small buy-ins like $20 first. I'm sure >200 bucks isn't going to get us mugged. Just don't bring too much money with you.
Also, 10 people is too many for a poker game. 8 people per table max. We'll split into two tables if necessary but playing 10 handed usually sucks. I like 6 at a table, personally.

I have an 8 man table, but I'm in S Surrey... I'd probably want to meet people before I invited them into my home as well... call me old fashioned I guess?
I think doing an introductory game at a casino would be a good idea. According to a previous post, they go quickly, so a quick meet before I decide if I want any of you RS yahoos in my home

Was playing a low stakes cash game earlier. $2.5/5 blinds. I bought in for $200 and got to about $600. I got lucky on a hand where I made the nut straight on the turn but I made some good plays too. Hero called with sevens after a guy tried to bluff me with air out of a pot after the river flipped an ace. There was a $600 stack and a $800 stack to my left.
I was gonna leave soon since I tripled my $200 buy-in but I was playing well so I thought I'd go for a few more. Fold a bunch and then I look down at 8D8S and decided I would play this last hand. I figured I would just take it here and raised to $40. I was like WTF when I was re-raised to $80 and two other callers behind. Normally this would be a fold but what the hell. I'm up a lot and can afford to try to flop a set for $40. Pot is about $360 after my call.
Flop comes 8H4S8C. I'm trying not to explode.
I figure I was raised with pocket pairs or at least an ace something so I checked. Guy to my left bets $180. Two callers. WTF? I call. The only draws that can beat me are pocket nines or higher and they would have to runner runner quads.
Turn is 2H which gives me the nuts. I figured that if they thought they had the best hand before the turn, the 2H means nothing. No one would stay in the pot with pocket hearts trying to runner runner a flush. I check. Three checks behind. Shit.
River is the ace of diamonds. I know someone is holding aces at this point or at least one ace is out there so whoever thought they had the best hand is probably pretty sure now. I check.
Guy to my left goes all in. He's snap called by the guy to his left with the biggest stack. I re-raise all in and big stack calls me as well. Other guy that checked on the turn folds (he had K-2, he said, LOL).
Guy to my left turns over AA. He made AAA88. Big stack made 44488. I had 8888A. 2k+ pot. Awesome.
I played a few more so I wouldn't be taking the money and leaving but those guys didn't rebuy so I got up and left.
Was a pretty lucky situation. I can't imagine another one where probably everyone in the hand can seriously believe they have the best hand at all times, especially after I checked the flop. You're pretty much beaten by three hands if you're holding AA and two hands if you're holding 44 after the flop. Nothing changes on the turn and are almost the same on the river.
If I folded those 8s and saw that flop, I would've lost my shit.

^ Wow... what casino was this? calling 80$ with K-2 (tho he most likely lied) is crazy lol
and that flop/turn/river is like playing on the computer where someone caught something big lol.
And how can you even think of folding 40$ more when you bet 40 and three other dudes went 80$.. I would call that all day as the odds are huge

Wow. If it were 10s instead of 8s you'd enjoy the lesser portion of a bad beat jackpot as well.
Nice hand.

Nice hand. | That's the first thing I thought too. Bad beat at Blvd is probably pushing 50K right now so 12.5K plus the pot ain't too shabby.
And Ronin, 2.5/5 = low stakes to you? Daaamnnn. Not that it's high but at 3/5 I'd normally buy in for at least 100x the BB. Losing session would be around 1.5K and a winning one over 3K = not exactly a small game. Normally people should have bank for at least 3 buy ins, which makes 15K in the room (if it's a house game) - something I wouldn't be comfortable with around strangers.
It's funny cause the game I play with my friends is .25/.50 + straddle but there's always so much action. Average first raise is like $4 (no straddle) $7 (with straddle). The only reason the stakes are so low is cause we have to accomidate the guys with families that don't want to potentially drop 1K on a night of poker. Most of us play higher limits (3/5, 5/10, 10/20, 3/5PLO) but get more excited playing the little house game cause we like crushing eachother/action. Many times we're more pissed losing $200 there, than 2K at a bigger game. We coined it "Extreme Poker" lol. Angle all you want, pump fakes, run it 3 times, side bets. We also tip the dealer/host since he deals out the whole night and there's no house rake. It's a fun game.

I might take you up on that. We tip our dealer so after you make enough you can play and deal as long as you keep the money separate.

Yeah, I'm almost certain the K-2 was a lie. I think he was holding kings, checked on the turn thinking no one has a set, his KK was good and wanted to trap, which is retarded because if you called a huge ass bet before the flop, we've probably figured out you have better than K-2. I think he saw the A on the river and knew his hand wasn't any good.
Private game. $200 was the minimum buy-in. I've played these guys before and usually the stakes are much lower. I don't know why they went with this but $200 was the minimum buy-in, which I thought was crazy. It was a funny game but we usually play quite a bit smaller. I'm almost sure they didn't really know what they were doing in setting up a bigger game but what the hell.
I bought in at the min because one...I was a bit scared of playing with more and two, these guys think I'm crazy. I'm usually the one playing with the big stack and trying to intimidate and force decisions. They know I have a big range playing from that position...I actually like playing anything suited, especially connecters or close. I've bet into them with air, I've raised with 9-6 off so I figured they might be thrown if I buy small and play tight. For this kind of money, if they put me on 9-6 off when I actually have a monster, I could hopefully induce some calls when they think I got nothing. That and I think two of the players at the table are just dead money. Not the guys that I played that hand against but two guys to my right. I doubled up through one so I thought that having a mid/big size stack after buying in for the minimum would be just as intimidating.
Yeah, cold deck. I'm not telling you guys because I think I played the hand well. I said I think I got lucky...although I think checking quads is a fairly good play. I thought of folding even at those pot odds because of the size of the raises which I thought would mean a AK-pocket pair race at best and the far likelier scenario is that they're holding pocket pairs so I would be drawing thin with 88 against AA, KK, etc but I was enticed by the odds and since it would be my last hand anyways. If that flop came anything but at least an 8, I was going to be folding.

Definitely not as exciting as the stakes were lower and it was online, but I've had a similar hand back back when I used to play where three players with pocket pairs hit two full houses and a quad.
It's been awhile, so I don't remember the nitty gritty details, but I was holding 7's. Flop comes QJ7. Three of us were all in on the turn, which was a blank. River came the case 7 for my quads. The two others held QQ and JJ.
All three of us hit a set on the flop... but I luckboxed it out to hit my quad on the river.

I think you pretty much got the max, regardless. You could've bet into it as a "feeler" bet only to get raised, so you could smooth call and check-call the turn to act weak and maybe throw out a "desperation" all in on the river, which would've got called anyways.
I bet on your drive home you were thinking "Way to raise the stakes, suckers" lol

I bet on your drive home you were thinking "Way to raise the stakes, suckers" lol | Totally. This was the highest stakes game we've ever played. Half the table bought in for $500. $200 is a lot of money but I figured it would be a heck of a fun game to play regardless and I was confident after buy-in with my position on the fish, LOL.
I lost $25 a couple weeks ago playing PLO with the same group. Barely ever played omaha before...maybe a couple times in small buy-ins online and once in a $20 buy-in table. Watched like 20 hours of guys like Phil Galfond and Phil Ivey play PLO to soak it in. One of the guys that I think sucks at hold 'em is either amazing at PLO or obscenely lucky. I know the range of hands to see a flop with is very different in PLO.
Still sucked ass at it, LOL. There's so many draws and wide range of hands in that game. If you don't have the absolute nuts, you're never fully confident you have the best hand.
Really fun game though. I might play some very small buy-ins or even the fake money online to figure it out.
